What's the water like in February?

Cruising out of Galveston on February 5th for a 7 night cruise to Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, and Cozumel. We are wanting to do some snorkeling and/or stingray city while at Grand Cayman and I was just wondering if anybody has experience doing these activities during February and what the water was like. Rocky or calm? Does it stay warm pretty much year round?

Water will be warm, not hot, but still warm especially since at Stingray City the water is shallow so the sun keeps it warm.

We were there Feb-Mar 2015 and it was perfect.

water temp will be in the 80's and air temp too PROBABLY but could be less

wind problems in Cayman typically happen from Jan thru Mar .... not to say there are always problems but MORE happen in these months. Problems meaning wind can prevent ships from even stopping as the seas are too ruff for safe tendering.

While the water is warm by most standards and even the air, these things are also very subjective. Here's my Florida daughter during a March dive trip trying to stay out of the wind on the dive boat ....

February and March bring the coldest water of the year, dipping to about 78F is not uncommon.

Shallow spots may see a bit warmer water, depending upon how much the wind has been mixing the water lately.

We almost always take a cruise to the Caribbean in the Jan/Feb time frame.

No real problems with water temperatures that time of year ... not bath water warm but not freezing.

Doing the stingray thing in Grand Cayman will not be a problem. Always seems to be rather warm. :)

It's warm and "swimmable" all year round! If the air temps aren't too hot, I don't feel a need to get wet....but even if the water is a bit cooler than in summer, it's still warmer than the Atlantic in winter!!!
