How long does it generally take for payment for Berkley?

Easy, straight forward question,,right?

Very difficult answer. You and I think 1 + 1 = 2

Insurance claims adjusters think differently.

Anyway, to answer your question.

I filed a claim for lost, misplaced, or stolen jewelry.

Once the insurance company received all the correct documentation, I had a check in my hands within a week.

That's not to say the entire process was only a week. It was more like a couple of months.

Hi! Once I receive confirmation that they have received everything, how long does it take to receive payment?

It's a pretty straight forward case, got the flu was throwing up.

TIA!

Thank you for posting, I wanted to ask this question also.

Filed my claim 5 weeks ago, (suffered stroke on board QM2, was put into Belgium hospital, then after 6 days was evacuated by air back to USA hospital by another company not Berkely Care.

So far after 5 weeks Berkely Care has done nothing to begin processing my claim - told by staffer, it has not yet been scanned into computer ( seems they do nothing until such time as it is scanned, even then according to staff" it will take as long as it take"

In other words Berkely Care staff are incompetent, and lazy, company as a whole is a nightmare to deal with, - don't know, don't care, and try wherever possible to avoid paying a claim.

5 weeks? and they've done nothing???

Suggestion 1.

Stop hijacking everyone elses threads. If you want advice or help. start your own thread.

Suggestion 2. Get your story straight. One thread, you say they keep asking you for more information. On another thread you say they have done nothing because it hasn't been scanned?

5 weeks? really? Not sure what your expectation is. All I did was lose a wedding band. It took me 5 weeks to get all of my documents into my insurance provider. Then another week for them to cut the check.

You have major medical claims.

5 weeks? Your expectations are not realistic.

Then this quote from you

"In other words Berkely Care staff are incompetent, and lazy,"

if you come even half that close when talking to them or writing them,,, I can guarantee they are not working too hard to close your claim.

For the OP, from the time all paperwork is complete and at the insurer's office, usually about 1-2 weeks. But, for a complex case with serious medical issues and evacuation costs, it can take much longer, about 2 1/2 months. There is a good amount of detail from my friend in this thread describing her experiences:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1170402.

I would add for Jimsgirl: Berkley may not start processing your claim until all documentation is complete. Have you filed for and received your denials from Medicare and supplemental insurance yet? The complex case referenced above is similar to yours, and was handled by Berkely.

This was not for medical stuff, it was for not even making it on the cruise! Got the barfy flu 18 hours before we left! I hope I did everything correctly! It was the princess platinum through Berkley!

Fingers crossed for 1-2 weeks ;-)!

Cherylandtk was replying to the poster who was hijacking your thread with the Medicare remarks, not to you. If you & your doctor completed their paperwork correctly, and it's a clean claim, it should be processed fairly quickly.

The thread was "How long before the Insurance pay the claim"

I did not highjack the thread, I replied that in my case although a claim was filed in Oct. to date the Insurance company have not processed the claim.

That they keep throwing up "road blocks", First they allocated the claim a number in Oct then they changed the number without doing anything to process the original claim or the amended number claim

They have NEVER contacted me, I have had to phone them. and each time I am told I need to submit extra reports.

Yes I have completed about 15 different reports or forms so far from doctors, hospitals etc.

The answers I have received on the phone vary from , " we are very busy" to "why did you leave the ship " (even though they have a written report from ships doctor proving he sent me to a shore hospital for MRI, and other tests") and one staffer asked "why did you not rejoin the ship later" .

The poster I quote above, failed to notice that I had a stroke, that my speech was slurred, , my face was twisted to one side, I lost use of my left hand arm and leg, and was travelling alone, believe me it was terrifying to be in a foreign hospital where no one spoke English and to be all alone thousands of miles from home .

That the cruise line charged my credit card for the care I received on the ship, and the hospital demanded I pay their bill also on my credit card before they would let me leave to be medically evacuated back to USA by Call International (who were excellent) .

My situation then and now is a H*** of a lot worse than losing a wedding band!!!

I did everything correctly, I bought Insurance, I provided doctors reports, filled out all the forms, but to date, I have a maxed out credit card (my medical treatment bills over $30,000 and an Insurance company, that admits NO PROGRESS has been made on my claim, who admit that after 5 WEEKS it is still waiting to be scanned onto the computer.! Only when it is scanned will Berkely Care begin to process the claim.

You are hijacking this thread. You already have your own thread, discussing your dissatisfaction in great detail. No need to post your complaints over and over. If you don't have the denials from Medicare and your Medicare supplement policy, Berkleycare can't move forward. You've been told this on many different threads, but you never said if you filed these claims and received the denials. You MUST do this first.

If you don't feel your claim is being handled correctly, file a complaint with your state's department of insurance. You can also write to your state representative and ask them to look into this.

Jimsgirl

You seem to be very angry.

I guess in your shoes, I'd be angry too.

However, it's hard to pinpoint exactly who to be angry at.

Yourself ?, the situation?, the Doctors?, the insurance company seems to be an easy target?

I get it, I really do.

However, you stated that you bought travel insurance for the medical coverage, for them to pay, and now your credits cards are maxed out waiting for the insurance company to complete their process.

Unfortunately, what you're experiencing is the norm throughout the travel insurance world. None of them would have paid upfront. All of them would have required for you to pay for the services,,, then,, you file a claim for reimbursement. It's the game. You can hate the game but you can't hate the player.

Easy for me to say but your health is more important than the money.

Stop hating, feel blessed that you can still feel emotion, give your best friend a hug,,,,, the insurance thing will work itself out.

Good luck

Had interesting discussion with neighbor who BEFORE RETIRING HAD worked for national known Ins. Co. I stated my problems including that I had filed EVERY piece of paper CORRECTLY and on time, (mailed with proof of delivery required)

Was told , the processing scenario was:-

1/ Insigificant claims (such as losing a wedding band claim $$$ could be worked on and PAID immediately no problem.

2/ However if claim was in the $$$$ range, staff should delay process, ask for additional paperwork EVEN if this is not strictly needed, in order to find a reason to delay PAYMENT AND POSSIBLY reduce claim.

3/ Staffers were encouraged with good reviews AND PROMOTION when they compiled with item 2 . Nothing actually illegal, just give the claimant a hard time, so when they do get paid say 95% they accept it without question, being thankful to actually get paid.

I expressed indignation at the stress and anxiety these tactics caused only to be told "it is called being smart , every Ins company operates this way."

I received an email that they would mail the check within 2 business days.

Stinks that there were 3 of us in a cabin and they only reimbursed for the 3rd person rate even though I insured for the most expensive rate:(

Did all three have to cancel?

Only 1.... I get it, but they shouldn't be allowed to charge the percentage for the more expensive rate for the insurance and then refund the cheaper rate! I should get a refund for the insurance rate! I "insured" the higher price!

Also, appears that Berkeley is owned by Carnival!

Interesting since the check says LTD carnival corp!

But you purchased Princess Platinum didn't you? Carnival Corp owns Princess and that's probably why the check came from Carnival. I don't know the specifics of the contract between cruise corporation and the insurance company, but the ins. company probably sent the money to Carnival who then dispurses it to you. Maybe someone else knows more will come along.

Berkely Travel is not owned by Carnival Corporation.

I finally have some good news:-

Berkely processed the Trip interruption part of my claim, the cheque for the missed portion was paid IN FULL today, on the "Carnival Cruise line account." though cheque is from Ins Co. Time 8 weeks from my filing claim

As the sum was for $$$$+ I am very pleased to receive this at this time, it will replace money into my savings which I had to use to repay credit card from which the medical bills were paid.

The Medical expenses also very high is still being processed , understand the delay as it involves three different medical bills, and one Dr 's report was written in a foreign dialect, think it will be paid in full though that time may be several extra months yet.

This probably is the place to give some advice (wanted or not)

As medical bills have to be paid at the time of the treatment , having credit card(s) with high limits makes good sense, fortunately I had a card with $$$$$ available .

I also had Medivac Ins, mine did cover a nurse escort , transport to major foreign airport, business class flight to USA airport, transport from there for admittance to my home town hospital (who had been notified to expect me) the nurse accompanied me until I was in to my room She was an angel. (the flight took 13 hours.)

Making sure your Medivac Ins cover is sufficient $$$$ is important.

It takes persistence , to deal with the Ins Co. I had several "run-ins" with Ins staffers who were too lazy to even check the claim when I phoned, but I phoned again and again until I reached a staffer who was willing and able.

Good wishes to all with claims still waiting to be resolved.

Thank you BullDawg91, I was naïve even though I had done over 50+ cruises. I bought Ins, thought as long as I had the paid bill receipts, and Dr's reports it was simply a matter of making a claim to Berkely.

I cannot stress enough the need to ensure that you have credit cards with BIG amounts available to pay medical on board, and at foreign hospital (plus savings to pay off the cards when you get home or the interest rates will "kill you", while you wait and wait for reimbursement.).

It is also essential that you (or a companion get every scrap of paper possible , to PROVE any claim. Berkely did give the impression they thought I could have stayed on the ship "IF I HAD TRIED TO DO SO".
