Looking for hotel near port.

I'm cruising out of NO next spring and I'm new to the NO port area. Can I get hotel recommendations for a good, safe hotel near the port?

Look for something in the Convention Center area. Embassy Suites comes to mind - we just stayed there for a good rate, but I understand it is normally much pricier.

Convention Center area or the bottom of Canal Street are both good. They can be expensive, but every year we shop around and get one of the major hotels chains for around $100 or so. Doubletree, Marriott, Hilton and many others can be had for a reasonable price if you ship around. Book early and be aware of what events are in town.

Rvsullivan thanks for the tips about events happening around NO. I discovered this as I checked hotels. I decided on Hyatt Place which appears to be close to the cruise terminal.

We just booked the Hampton Inn and Suites at the Convention Center. It appears to be a decent place. It's near the port, Fulton Street Parking Garage and a The Riverwalk.

We've stayed at the Drury Inn on Poydras and have been pretty happy with it. We're planning on staying there again in August when we travel out of NOLA.

Does the Drury Inn offer a shuttle to the port? How far is it to port? Were you satisfied with their happy hour and breakfast at the hotel?
