Do you miss not having a balcony on Seadream?

I know that many cruisers here have sailed on other lines. I am interested in doing a Seadream cruise in 2015 (Caribbean) but wonder if the cabin size means that you can't find quiet nooks on deck (because everyone will be on deck?). Thanks for your insight.

We have been on about a dozen SD cruises. I understand your concern, as we would not consider traveling Silversea or Seabourn without having a balcony. But SD is just different. No, we have never had a problem finding a quiet place on deck to read and relax. And while there are a hundred or so passengers on board, it somehow never seems like that many. I don't know where everyone goes, but nothing ever seems crowded to us. We are in our cabin to sleep and to change clothes, and we find it more than adequate. Particularly for the Caribbean, SD is the perfect ship.

I totally agree with Zimmy! Nothing like SD in the Caribbean! You won't miss a balcony at all.

If you have been on ships with larger cabins or suites with expansive balconies you might find SeaDream cabins to be tiny and the lack of your own private balcony to be a downer. We have sailed with others that have said they did not like SD because of that (or no casino, etc.) SD is not for everyone. We have had several great cruises recently on other lines that involved nice private balcony areas but that is just a different experience from SeaDream. On SD we have always been able to find a quiet space to read or just relax. It might not be the first place you look but there is always enough space on deck. The only time SD gets restrictive is if the weather is bad. Very limited indoor spaces for all the passengers in that case. SD is absolutely the best for the Caribbean where rain is usually short lived and warm.

DH and I have sailed numerous times in the Caribbean as well as one TransAtlantic on SD and have never missed having a balcony. There are plenty of outdoor spaces, in the sun and shade, to find a quiet place to read, relax and nap.

On the Caribbean itineraries we have found that many people opt to spend time in the Port of Call. We are just happy to stay on the yacht and enjoy the view from a Bali Bed or the TOY Bar.

Agree with all of the above. On our sd cruise we kept asking ourselves "where is everyone?", so easy to find a quiet spot we couldn't believe there were 100 people somewhere on the ship.

You know we love a deck and wouldn't cruise if we didn't get a deck. Thar said, when we cruise SeaDream we never missed the deck at all. We done SeaDream 3 times and plan again in 2015.

Headed to Alaska on the SilverSea Shadow right now. Will have a "verandah". Normally I would say the space of SD means no, I would never need a balcony. BUT if you are sailing in a school holiday week, with 10 and unders on board you might need. I adore the SD crew but when hellions are running amuck on all decks, a balcony would be nice.

FT I do hope you have a wonderful Alaska trip on Silversea. I want to hear ALL about it. Are you posting on the Silversea board?

We are about to embark on our 3 SD cruise with 2 more booked..we have not missed the balcony at all. I agree with Zimmy - you can find plenty of quiet spaces as well as plenty of chairs, lounges and Balinese beds to read, snooze etc. Great Cruiseline!
