Alaska cruise tours - ??

We did one that goes from Fairbanks to Denali Lodge to McKinley Lodge. We did the connoisseur tour and loved it. It included several excursions and we were surprised how much we enjoyed the river boat cruise. We thought it would be totally dorky but we liked it. Enjoyed the freaking fabulous Alaskan Brewing Company beer in Talkeetna. Enjoyed the Tundra Wilderness Tour and enjoyed the fact that the mountain came completely out from behind the cloud cover to stand exposed in all its glory. Wowie Zowie it was cool! :)

We do plan to do another land tour and want one that goes to Copper River lodge and Kenai lodge. We visited the Copper River lodge this summer when we were doing a 7 week camping trip through Canada and Alaska. Very nice. It was raining and we were camping. We stopped into the lodge for lunch and a couple rounds of Irish Coffee then sat by the fire reading for a while. We definitely plan to go back on another cruise tour. :D

We took the 12-day cruise tour a few years ago that started with two nights in Fairbanks (with the paddle wheeler and gold dredge excursions), train to Denali (with Natural History Tour--but we upgraded to Tundra Wilderness Tour), bus to Mt. McKinley Lodge, bus to Anchorage (Captain Cook Hotel), then finally bus to Whittier (with stop at the wildlife center along the way). It was great. I enjoyed the way Princess has everything organized. The restaurants in the lodges had good food that wasn't too expensive. (There are some more casual restaurants in addition to the finer ones. Menus are available on the Princess lodge websites.)

Five days on land would be the minimum I'd want to do.

We have taken 3 tours in Alaska. The first was on our own. The second was a Princess 3 day land tour followed by a 7 day cruise. It was better than the tour we did on our own. The third was an 8-day Princess connoisseur escorted land tour followed by a 7-day cruise. This was so much better than anything we had done before and it is the only one we will ever do in the future. No worries, no hassles, no problems.

A big Thank you to everyone who replied - I appreciate hearing your experiences.

I'm going to pour over my Alaska brochure and pick one of the fabulous itineraries:) I know we definitely want the Tundra Wilderness tour and I'm not interested in DIY for this cruise

If you think you might be interested in a connoisseur cruise tour then I highly recommend you read the first part of THIS THREAD by caribill.
