Castel Sant Angelo

Hi Preacherman -- you had me stumped on that one. I did a little searching online. (Not really my area of expertise.) It appears from what I read that there are some theories about this painting but little is actually known. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thank you for checking! I tried to find something on line too. Where did you find the "theories"? We will have a private tour and I could compare comments if they have any[emoji4]

"A man seen going through a false door has been speculated to be Pellegrino Tibaldi, a lawyer who defended Beatrice Cenci during the infamous trial of patricide of the Cenci family, but this was likely painted years before the event. Another theory supposes this figure to be Fulvio Orsini, a historian at the court of Paul III."

"The figure of a man dressed in black, in the painted door on the right of the entrance, is the lawyer who defended Beatrice Cenci and other members of her family."

According to this blog post (I have no clue about the author or his credentials), Pellegrino Tibaldi was a painter, sculptor and architect and the painting is a self portrait (the other painting is, according to this writer, two servants of the other painter of the room, Perino del Vega).
