kbset Posted January 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2015 Are there any decently priced land tours for sightseeing that anyone would recommend? Or any good tour companies in GT?
Nitemare Posted January 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2015 Have you read the front page of this forum? There's very little to do on Grand Turk -- the 3 or 4 threads about golf carts and a tour bus pretty much cover it.
Rare crewsweeper Posted January 28, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 28, 2015 There's a tram, hop on hop off that covers the island leaving from the cruise center. But your best, and cheapest, bet is to go ask one of the taxi drivers. They'll quote you a price and take you every where, John Glenn capsule, downtown museum and shopping, salt works, lighthouse, one of the "conch graveyards", local lunch spot. (maybe one or two other places, but I can't think what they might be). Most of these guys are very proud f their island and they'll give you a good running commentary on island history and politics. If you're out more than 2 hours, excluding the lunch time, your driver is going around in circles.:D
beshears Posted February 7, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 7, 2015 On Grand Turk, what is the salt works that was mentioned? It was also mentioned that a Taxi would take us to a conch graveyard, is that true? I want to get some shells, or maybe I should walk there???? Nitemare Posted February 8, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 8, 2015 Taxi can't get you to the conch graveyard, just a 10-15 minute walk from the pier. Head towards the point (to your right as you are walking from ship to shore) and you can't miss it.
beshears Posted February 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 9, 2015 OK, so if I walk right from the cruise terminal for about 10 - 15 minutes, will I see conch shells laying on the sand, or do I need to dig for them? Are they closer to the edge of the water, or higher up on the beach?
