Debit Card/Alcohol

I'm going on a Royal Caribbean cruise (Freedom of the Seas) with my g'parents and they are paying for my trip, but they said they will not pay for my drinks/cigarettes. Will it be a problem for me to make these purchases on a debit or credit card instead of a seapass? If not, will I be able to get my own seapass to make these purchases, while still having them pay my additional fees/gratuities?

You will not be able to pay directly for these items through your debit or credit card,

but you can set up your own account on board to pay for these things and anything else you might buy while on board (stuff from the gift shops, casino, etc.). You and your grandparents would need to go to the pursers desk once you're on board to do this.

I'm not sure how many cigarettes you'll find on board..I don't smoke, so haven't noticed if they're for sale..you might consider just bringing what you need with you (and check the smoking policy on board..several lines have prettey restrictive smoking policies these days.)

You definitely cannot use cash for purchases on board.

I am not sure if you can designate some expenses (alcohol & smokes) to be charged to you and others (tips) to your granparents. You may need to go to the purser's desk and add up you purchases and pay cash there.

I'm going to guess that your over 21. Yes you can set up your own sea pass but realize all of your charges will go on it. tips/ excursions etc.

You can purchage a carton of cigs at the duty free store on board for a very reasonable price. Last time my boyfriend paid $25.

I think it would be easiest if you estimated how much money you'll spend on drinks and cigarettes and put several hundred dollars into your account. This way if you pre-pay $300 it will go toward the overall bill.

All you have to do is use the sea card they give you and go to the pursers desk and see what you owe. They will then take payment for that amount, get a print out and give it to your grandparents so they know you paid for those things without them having to worry about your end of the bargain.

Take cash on the islands instead of using a debt card. Sometimes there are added % rates or fee's when using a card.

You will find plenty of cigarettes onboard a Royal Caribbean ship. They are deemed non-smoking ships however, they are very kind to smoking passengers. You may smoke on your balcony and EVERY ship offers a cigar bar/smoking lounge... usually on the top floor with a good waiter or two available. Enjoy!

Make it easy for yourselves

Ask your Grandparents to prepay the gratuities. (I assume this is what is happening.) Then use your credit/debit card (or your own cash) to secure your SeaPass.

What other fees? Excursions? Speciality restaurants? If they pay for them then their account will be charged.

On Disney my MIL paid for our excursions and tips and she just asked for those charges to be put on their account. However our seapass was linked to our cc for everything else. It shouldn't be hard to do near the end of the cruise. Of course prepaying the tips is another option as well to keep things simple.

I agree with this statement and it is the simplest way. You can get your own sea pass, when you and your grandparents check in at embarkment.

As for cigs, the ship stores are closed while they are in port. Once out to sea they will be open. So bring what you will need for that first day.

Enjoy your cruise
