New2cruising2011 Posted September 14, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2014 I'm sorry if this is the wrong place I don't know where else to ask. I'm newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic. I am slowly getting ok control with a low carb way of eating. I need to eat a snack just before bed and a few times a day. Can I bring a cooler on Carnival already filled with ice,low carb yogurts, cheese sticks and hummus when I board? These items have been my go to snack that don't send my blood sugars high. My PVP is no help. Thanks in advance!

Re: cooler of ice not certain is that's acceptable. If it were me I would empty the ice from the cooler before entering the pier and refill it once on board. IMPORTANT : you can only take the snacks of the ship while in port it still in its original unopened packaging. New2cruising2011 Posted September 14, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted September 14, 2014 Thanks. They are small snack size containers. We have fttf if I have to remove the ice.
SadieN Posted September 14, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2014 Carnival only allows coolers no larger than 12x12x12 onboard. If you have a hard sided cooler they will confiscate anything larger than those dimensions at embarkation. Many will PACK a soft sided cooler. Putterdude Posted September 14, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 14, 2014 I know absolutely nothing about Carnival's policy but if it was me I would contact Carnival directly about something as important as this.

New2cruising2011 Posted September 15, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted September 15, 2014 Thank you! I have brought this cooler before just not filled with ice and perishable food. I have e-mailed carnival but haven't heard back yet. :)
Marie51 Posted September 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) Thank you! I have brought this cooler before just not filled with ice and perishable food. I have e-mailed carnival but haven't heard back yet. :) I don't know about Carnival but on Royal Caribbean you can request a "medication fridge" so if Carnival has something like this you could ask for it in your cabin to keep your food in. Contact the special needs dept if they have one(by phone call). Emails are slow to respond and most of the time you may get a person who really will have only generic answers. I don't know about hummus and yogurt but there will be plenty of cheese onboard. Edited September 25, 2014 by Marie51
nieciez Posted September 26, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 26, 2014 You can get yogurt on board in the buffet area too.
New2cruising2011 Posted October 1, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted October 1, 2014 It was low carb yogurt. The regular is too high for me. I was able to bring my cheese sticks and yogurt. Only thing I had to do was dump the ice before going through security. Since we had fttf it wasn't an issue to get the ice refilled quickly. ducklite Posted October 17, 2014 #11 Share Posted October 17, 2014 Glad it all worked out for you. In the future a bag of frozen peas or corn can be used as a temporary cold pack in a cooler. It also works for taking things on a plane which must be kept cold. ;)
