Vatican Tours

Have read a lot of information regarding private tours of the Vatican and/or paying the additional for the guide arranged by RomeInLimo. I assume someone has simply taken the guided tour available through the Vatican. I would like to hear about your experience.

It was fine, but I wouldn't do it again. I am not a fan of marching around places in a group under almost any circumstances. I think if and when I do it again I will get tickets for admission and then wander on my own. I am intrigued by the new aperitif tour that includes a light buffet dinner and allows you admission to places that are not open to the general public.

On the tour, they seemed to take you to preplanned works that they felt were important and skipped over a lot of things that I would've liked to examine in more detail.

I would do it as a very small group tour such as with a Rome Walks or a private tour and there are several who do that.

I've done it both ways and my preference now is private.

We did our own with the audio guide in Sept. It worked well for our family as we saw the highlights and moved on as we wanted. My family wasn't interested in staying at any one thing long.
