Please help. Is there a shuttle that goes from the Anchorage airport to Seward? (or can I buy a transfer from the cruise company). Are there car rental places where a car from Anchorage Airport can be dropped in Seward.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ........:)

We took the train from Seward to the Airport. You can do the same thing from the airport to Seward. It's a very nice trip. We booked it through the cruise line.

There is also bus service but the train was a lot nicer. You can get up and walk around and there is food and beverages available.

I'm not sure about renting a car.

This question is frequently asked on the Alaska Cruise Critic forum. Transfer options from Anchorage to Seward include: 1) the cruise line purchased train or motor coach transfer; 2) independently purchased train or motor coach transfer; and 3) rental car. While Seward has a small airport there is no commercial air service. The only national car rental firm with an outlet in Seward is Hertz.

Just use the Cruise Critic search feature for a list of motor coach companies which cater to cruisers.

Seward is a lovely community with a number of attractions for visitors. It is well worth spending a day or two there prior to boarding your ship.

When we cruised out of Seward on Millennium this past June, our flight from LAX got into Anchorage at 1:00 am the night before. The train required a VERY early departure and also required that you check in a long time BEFORE that early departure...No way we were doing that on minimal sleep.

We ended up using this company:

Seward Bus Lines:

http://www.sewardbuslines.net/

It was actually cheaper than the train...and they picked us up at our hotel (we stayed at the Microtel at the airport) EXACTLY ON TIME...They had six of us in all and used a comfortable van. The driver was very friendly...and we made a couple of photo stops, a minimart stop and a longer stop at the Wildlife Preserve--giving us a chance to tour that facility and getting some great photos...and still got us to the ship by 1:00 pm... Cost was $55 per person...

If you want to take the train from the airport, which is a good option, you have to buy the train as a transfer from the cruise line. The train from the airport is a charter by the cruise line. That train does not leave early in the morning.

If you take the regular Alaska RR train from downtown Anchorage (which does NOT stop at the airport), it is VERY early, like 6 am, as mentioned by Bruin Steve.

If you are not flying in that day, it still is worth is worth it to buy the airport transfer from the cruise line, and just make your way to the airport to catch it. That is what we did.
