Hi

The "Boys" and I are thinking of booking a cruise for next year or the year after

There are 4 of us aged 18-20

So I have a couple of questions if anyone could answer them for me that would be great

1. How old do you have to be to travel on a cruise ship ?

None of us are 21 is that going to matter ?

2 we all want to share a cabin but is it worth it to get 2 cabins ?

How big/small are the cabins ?

3. Which cruise line would best suit us

I haven't been on a cruise since I was 14 so it's been awhile

I just want to know what is the best cruise line for 18-20 year olds

We have looked at NCL and Royal Caribbean

We all like ncl but we don't know if it's right for us

If anyone could answer these questions for me that would be great

Thx

On most cruise lines there must be someone 21 or over in every cabin unless the persons in "Club 18-20" are either (1) a married couple; or (2) with their parents or other immediate family members that are 21 in another cabin under the same booking number. On Carnival cruise line there must be someone at least 25 years old on each booking, only exception is the marriage one.

Hi

The "Boys" and I are thinking of booking a cruise for next year or the year after

There are 4 of us aged 18-20

So I have a couple of questions if anyone could answer them for me that would be great

1. How old do you have to be to travel on a cruise ship ? 21 for most lines, 25 for Carnival. only Disney and Cunard permit 18 yo. they are the two most expensive mainstream lines and will not permit it during Spring Break time

None of us are 21 is that going to matter ? Yup. Big time

2 we all want to share a cabin but is it worth it to get 2 cabins ? the cabins are smaller than your average hotel room. also, while you can usually cram as many people who are willing to sleep on the floor into one, you can ONLY book as many as there are beds for, keeping in mind that if it is a couch, 2 people will be sharing

How big/small are the cabins ? as I said, you need to go up to a suite class to find a cabin roughly equivalent in sq footage for a land based hotel.

3. Which cruise line would best suit us your only options are Disney and Cunard. I have ne er sailed Cunard, but Disney is upscale in the adult sections.

I haven't been on a cruise since I was 14 so it's been awhile

I just want to know what is the best cruise line for 18-20 year olds

until you are 21, NCL and Royal are out.. you'd be much better off doing to an all inclusive in the Caribbean or Mexico.

Some lines require an adult age 25 or older to be IN the cabin with those who are underage. Also, no alcohol on ANY ship that cruises out of a US port, and if you're caught with booze, you will be thrown off the ship at the next port of call, at your own expense. And seriously, don't think you can fool security and smuggle booze on the ship. They know all the tricks. All luggage is scanned and if they see anything suspicious, you'll be called to the "naughty room" to open your bags and explain what you've got inside. I've personally been on a couple of cruises where teens have been taken off the ship for violating the rules. Actually, I've seen entire families kicked off the ship because their teens were caught with alcohol.

If a cabin only sleeps four, you won't be allowed more than that. So, if you have a larger group, you'll have to have one "adult" IN each cabin with you. And, that person will be responsible for you, so if you get in trouble, that person will also have the same trouble.

Like others have said, best to take a land vacation rather than a cruise until you're 21.

OP

I think it is great that you are looking for answers to help you with your "Boys vacation". My twin 18 year old boys LOVE to cruise. I think if you got connecting cabins or sailed on one of the older Fantasy ships you could make this work. The way my boys were going to do it was to take their older brother who is 26. On the Fantasy class ships you can squeeze 5 in a cabin. If you went on a ship that has a max of 4 pax per cabin then I would look into connecting cabins or another older brother (totally doable!)

I commend you for at least trying to find answers to your questions. As most of us know, a land vacation, just isn't the same. Where there is a will, there is a way!

There are many things for you to do without being 21. My boys went to the comedy club every night (the comedians even wanted to hang out with them!), they went to the sports bars, the casino, they sang karaoke, picked up on girls and ate LOTS of food all night long. They slept all day by the pool and started all over again. They went to Papa's and Beer in Mexico and hung out downtown.

For the record, before I get flamed, my boys don't drink, or smuggle booze. But boy do they PARTY! I couldn't be more proud of their lifestyle. One twin is on a full ride college baseball scholarship (hence the reason for them not drinking) and the other twin is leaving for Special Forces (Navy Seal/EOD program) boot camp in 4 days (hence the reason for not drinking).

BTW~I have seen more "Adults" behaving unruly, smuggling, sharing cheers package, and being rude than 18-20 year olds.
