New Orleans Triumph Question

We are cruising out of NOLA in a little over a week. When we get off the ship, our flight home isn't until 5:30pm. We thought we might see a little bit of New Orleans before going to the airport but have no idea what to do with our luggage. Any suggestions?

Carnival sometimes offer a city bus tour after the cruise that ends at the airport. If interest check with Carnival to see if this is available for your cruise. If not there are luggage services that will take your luggage to the airport. I hope you enjoy the cruise and New Orleans.

We also have an evening flight the day we return. In the past, we've arranged with Advance Checkin Services. They have a stand right at the port when you get off of the ship. For a fee, they'll hold your luggage and take it to the airport for you. We've used them twice. Both times we've had no problem getting our luggage immediately upon arrival at the airport.

I've not used them for a few years and the reviews of late have not been great so I have been trying to find an alternative but have had no luck whatsoever. Its odd considering the city is one that known for tourist wandering the French quarter that there wouldn't be more options out there for this service. But I've dug and dug and dug and can only find them. We may have no choice but to use them.

Again, we have never had issues with them really, but I'd like to have choices.

I will say this....the first time we used them, there was a misunderstanding. My fault I guess for not clarifying the details.......they tell you that they can schedule to have someone pick you up down in the quarter in a designated spot and drive you to the airport. We said OK. But we didn't realize, nor was it really pointed out to us at the time, that this was an EXTRA service. They don't do the pickup but rather arrange the pickup FOR you with a company they use. So I was surprised when we were dropped at airport to learn that I owed cab fare and tip for the ride. I was not happy. Now was it my fault that I didn't ask them the question when they offered? Yes, in a way it was. But I also fel that I was a little mislead by them. The second time we used them I was prepared for the extra costs.

I think this year it will cost me about $100.00 for them to take our 6 bags to the airport while we roam the streets for 6 hours or so. then the cab fare on top of that. Not cheap.....but I guess it really comes down to how much you want to lug your bags around town with you half the day. Its hot in the summer......hot like a wet wool blanket being tossed over you. I don't want to add to that by carrying around my luggage.

If you find someone else that offers this service, please post it.:D I'd love to check another option

You can take it to Hilton Riverside and the bell man can store it for you. We just did this after our Dream cruise in March. You do not have to stay at the hotel to use this service. After the cruise we walked to the hotel through the Riverwalk mall from the port terminal.

Because I've not been thru the Riverside mall I want to be sure I understand. :) From Erato Street terminal, we can take our luggage and walk thru the mall and at the other end is Hilton Riverside?

We can request that they store our luggage for about 6 hours and we will come back and pick it up and get a cab from there to the Airport. This is doable? I'm assuming there would be a fee for the storage ?? But I'm also assuming it would be cheaper than having the luggage taken to airport for us. I mean we're already paying cab fare. may as well take our luggage with us if we can store it while walking about.

So did you just have them hold it for the day? May I ask what it cost you?

I would take a taxi from the port to Harrah's Hotel and have the bellhop in the lobby store the luggage. There's no charge other than tipping the bellhop. Once you store it, you can walk to other areas, and the casino is just a few steps across Fulton Street (pedestrian street) as you exit the hotel. Manning's Sports Bar is also a few steps away. When it's time to go the airport, just retrieve your luggage from the bellhop and get a taxi at the hotel.

Have a great cruise!

Nadersmom. When you walk out of Erato St terminal there are steps leading up to the mall. If you are up to it and can carry your luggage up the steps you can walk to the hotel through the mall. We tipped the bellman for holding our luggage. They did not charge us a set fee.

That's great news! Thank you so much for the info. Then we can just walk back to Hilton after we run around a bit, pick up our luggage, and get a cab directly to airport. Sounds much cheaper than using the other service

:D

we used the advanced check in and it was $40 for up to 4 bags I believe. 100% worth it and so easy since it's right there once you lug them off the ship! The bags were waiting for us with their rep in baggage claim at the airport at the time we designated. We took an uber over to a sports bar and caught the Bronco game.

Yep, I think we paid close to that a few years back also. But now the website lists $40 for only 2 bags and $15 for each additional bag. We'll have a total of 6 bags so that's $100 for the bags and another , what $50 or $60 ? for cab fare back to the airport for all of us.

Not sure what standard tip should be to Hilton bellman ?? but I'm assuming its much less than $100.00 ;p
