Picture-A-Week-2015 - Week 18

We picked up a Canon sx50 yesterday. I am used to shooting in Manual mode from my Olympus OM4 that I used for 20 plus years. Funds have prevented me from going to DSLR and I've limped along for several years with a Canon SD870 P&S. Using CHDK in RAW mode, I was able to weasel out some nice pictures from that camera. Got the SX50 refurbished from Canon at a nice price. These are my first shots with the SX50. I can see that I need to work on exposure and camera stability, but not a bad start. I believe these were all taken Tv mode.

I am hoping to get pretty comfortable with the camera before our Australia to Hawaii cruise next April.

Great pictures everyone!!!

Hubby and I took our yearly motorcycle trip over to Gettysburg battlefield. Stopped and visited Sachs Bridge, part of the civil war.

Next day we traveled to Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, the largest hand-cut stone masonry building in North America, and is the second largest in the world, next to the Kremlin.

My business travel took me to San Diego for a couple of days, so I spent one of them exploring the area.

2 hours after landing the Padres took the field for a noon game, this makes 15 different stadiums visited...halfway to seeing them all.

I think nothing says California like surfers, I stopped out in La Jolla, CA to watch them for a while.

As I was leaving I was lucky to capture this shot, 2 seconds later he got up.

I thought this place looked familiar -- went there many years ago when we visited Gettysburg.

We live in western PA.

Lots of interesting and varied pictures from this past week on this colorful and interesting photo thread. Here are some of my spring floral "eye candy" samples to share from America's Midwest.

Sure glad Spring is here and that we can enjoy these welcomed climate changes.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

It is spring time from our ravine area within the City of Columbus. The first two pictures reflect the "redbud" trees that are "out" right now and looking so good. Next are some different floral and/or tree samples that I snapped this afternoon while on the way to a garden store and some food shopping. Great, perfect weather here right now. Wonderful Sunday to sit on the screened porch, listen to the birds, etc.:

A nighttime panorama of Frontierland/Adventureland with the trees light-painted for an event. After asking the foreground people to leave with Photoshop I added my own painterly effect with a mix of Topaz filters and Lightroom adjustments.

Appreciate the great, fun picture from Mickeyland. When you creatively used Photoshop to "ask" those foreground people leave, did your computer program do that by e-mail or text?? Amazing success in making sure those folks got the message and departed from your visual so promptly!!

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Enjoyed a 14-day, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure, getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Go to:

I guess "ask" was a little disingenuous...it was more like a clone-stamp phaser set on vaporize. Besides, they didn't listen the first time....;)
