If you're not a trivia buff..what do you do?

Recommended Posts

I think you're my twin. Except I love trivia.

About the only trivia I really enjoy is when they do Disney trivia, because I'm a Disney expert. Some people really love a sport, so they learn everything there is about that sport. Or they are huge fans of some movie or some band. For me, although I'm pretty good at trivia in general, Disney is my specialty.

So if you don't like to do Carnival cruising stuff, why do you take Carnival cruises?

Because DH is burned out on theme park vacations and we are NOT outdoorsy type people so camping is definately out. Road trips are out because DH does enough driving during the week for work that he doesn't want to spend his entire vacation driving. Which, I kind of don't blame him for that. Everything else I've suggested (flying to DC to visit the capital, the Smithsonian, etc for example) he has shot down. DH and DS really enjoy cruising and I like it ok. I just don't care for the sea days because they're sort of boring.

Maybe its just me, but I actually love sea days. Sometimes I prefer the sea days, especially if our port time consists of us just walking and shopping.

But my sea days go a little like this

I stay up very late the night before, because I'm on vacation and I can.

I wake up about 10-11 am usually. Depending how tired I am.

MDR or Lido for breakfast, doesnt matter

Go to the gym, where I then build up an appetite and completely spoil my workout by going to the Lido

Only trivia I participate in is Sports trivia, but I never win because I dont know jack about golf, hockey, tennis, or nascar:o:D

I try to meet someone new, just strike up conversation, sometimes they'll think youre a creep, other times you just made a great new friend.

I go to the shows. Comedy shows, broadway shows, or game shows.

I try to participate and volunteer a lot for different stuff.

I laugh at people singing karaoke, where I then go on stage so people get the chance to laugh at me in return.

I talk to crew members, not just hey how are you. But I like to get to know them, and develop a nice lil relationship

I dance, even though I know I can't dance.

I play cards,

I watch the sea

I walk the ship

I am very rarely ever in my cabin. I'm in there probably a good 3 times a day, when I wake up, preparing for dinner, and going to bed.

I very rarely find myself bored on a ship. And I'm not some outgoing extrovert person either. So really most of all on a cruise ship means I'm stepping completely out of my comfort zone so I can have the best time possible.

It just seems to me that there is more to do at night than there is during the day. At night, I'm *never* bored because there's the shows or a band to listen to or I can go hang out at the piano bar and scream myself hoarse but during the day...urgh. I just am trying to think of things to do on my next cruise on the sea days.

I'm a person that doesn't need to be entertained. Trivia is fun, but if I don't know the topic I'll skip it. There are enough things to do without it. One of my favorite activities is walking up and down every stairway and hallway looking at the different art. It's almost like taking a trip to a museum. After doing it once, I plug in my iPod to an audio book downloaded from the library before leaving home. Walking those stairs is great for fighting off the extra calories. Finding a shady lounge chair and settling in with my Kindle Paperwhite is good too. Then there is scanning the ocean looking for ships and sea life. Try drawing the ocean and clouds. It's a very relaxing thing to do. See if there are any movies on TV that you haven't seen. Playing Threes on the iPod can eat up hours! Keep a journal of your cruise. Label and edit photos. We've done number of transatlantic cruises. The sea days are always filled with good things to do!

I love, love sea days!!!

I spend my time:

sleeping late,

eating meals leisurely with DH,

reading,

people watching,

reading,

playing cards,

reading,

gazing at the ocean,

reading,

walking for exercise (the decks or in the gym),

reading,

playing mini-golf,

reading,

playing trivia,

reading,

listening to my I-Pod that is loaded with cruising music :)

reading,

doing needlepoint,

reading,

playing games on my tablet,

and

reading (yep, I love to read--I take one paperback for beach days and my Nook that is loaded with books). :) :) :)

We usually have a mini golf tournament with the people we are cruising with. On the last night, losers buy the winners a drink. :) We also lay by the pool for a little while everyday. Then we will read or play cards. We will sometimes go into the casino and learn how to play a game. We love sea days because the great thing is you can do nothing or everything. Have a great time no matter what you do. :)

Carnival has several of it's own channels on TV. You can catch re-broadcasts of the Hairy Chest Contest, the Mixology Contest, the Ice Carving, the Love and Marriage Show and just about everything else. Sometimes it is fun to watch the evening shows again on TV in case you missed something the first time around. There are also some CNN channels that usually aren't available in the U.S.

I have never been in the pool. I am lacking!

Been on, oh, something like 17 cruises I think I might have gone in the pool on the first one. Maybe. It was over 25 years ago, so memory is fuzzy.

We might be the only people who have cruised Hawaii without packing swimsuits. Motorcycle helmets, yes. Swimsuits, no.

Cruises ship pools and hot tubs? No thanks.

I went to the Casino. How about you and your other half trying out for the Marriage Game?

Only if I can convince DH that it's perfectly OK to let DS to go Camp Carnival. Because of our son's multiple special needs (including Asperger's), Hubby hasn't felt..confident..in the abilities of the CC staff to handle our extremely high energy kiddo who tends to have epic meltdowns when things don't go exactly the way he thinks or expects they should. For example, if they're playing a game and they're not playing it the way he THINKS they ought to (even if they are playing by the rules)...oi. Just..it can be unpleasant. So up to this point, on our cruises, he's never been to CC...just always with one of us.

Maybe some girl power is in order? You can see by reading these boards that a lot of people cruise with extended family and friends. I also cruise with my DH and DS, but we have been able to join my DD and DSIL on the last few vacations. We live on opposite coasts,so time with DD is very precious. We just enjoy each other's company at trivia or whatever, doesn't matter. Maybe you might have more fun with a bigger travelling group if such a thing could be worked out. Just a respectful suggestion.

Not your fault. It's in my signature, which silly me..I thought people ACTUALLY read those things. LOL:p

The app I use for CC, doesn't even show the signatures...just an FYI.

Also, just an FYI, if I would have seen your signature without reading the entire post, I would have had no idea what that meant, as I have not closely dealt with that particular special need.

On a really BAD day...he's a lot like the Rainman character in that movie with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. On a good day, somewhere between Max from the show Parenthood and Dr. Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory. :)

Right...I know what aspergers is, but would have never known was an aspie was, just assuming it was a sports team or something.

I did not notice that in your signature either. Well do you have favorite games that you all play? You could bring those. I know RCL now accommodates with the issue for the children now. Maybe you could call the folks or email the children's area and see if they have anything to accommodate for your family.

Is it possible to leave him/ her for just an hour for you and DH just to do something. That way it is not to long of a period. How about a dvd player and some of his favorite movies?

His favorite game is Monopoly and there is no way I am dragging that thing on board. We play enough of it at home as it is. I love him, but there's only so many hours of Monopoly I can stand, yanno? :)

Although we've talked to the CC staff before, my DH is just not..confident..they could handle him even for an hour. I'm a little more confident that they CAN but it's not worth the argument, esp when we're on vacation and supposed to be having a good time.

I have signatures disabled, too. Gets distracting and takes too long to load. (with people listing every cruise they've ever been on and all the count-down clocks for upcoming cruises.)

Same here. My entire iPad screen was getting filled up by a single signature, so I disabled them. Now I realize I can be missing noteworthy information.
