Honfleur to Normandy beaches?

We are considering a cruise that stops in Honfleur. Would it be possible to tour the Normandy beaches from there? How long a car ride is it? I know Paris is three hours away.

If feasible, can anyone recommend a tour company that does this?

Honfleur is the port of call for passengers to visit the Normandy Beaches. I was on a cruise earlier this year that had an overnight in Honfleur and there were several ship excursions to the landing beaches. I believe the journey is approx one and a half hours, depending upon town visited etc. etc. I know a couple who were on the same cruise as me who did a private tour, I'll see if I can find the details and post again... I had been there previously so chose to spend the day in Paris, and contrary to what is often posted here the journey time was nowhere near three hours, more like two, including a bathroom break en route!!!

30 miles / just over an hour by the attractive coast road or 40 miles / just under an hour by the fast A13 to the nearest (British) D-Day sight, Pegasus bridge at Benouville (B on the map), or 75 mins direct to the Canadian Juno beach (Courseulles) (C on the map) or 90 mins direct to the American Cemetery / Omaha beach (E on the map). Furthest points, 2 hours direct from Honfleur are Utah beach at La Madeleine (G on the map) & the airborne sights at Ste Mere-Eglise (H on the map).

You can fit in a combination of sights according to your interests & time available. From Honfleur or Le Havre folk tend to go no further than Pointe du Hoc (F on the map), about 15 mins beyond Omaha, unless they have a specific interest.

There's a number of specialist tour operators, such as Overlord, doubtless other posters can give recommendations - all are extremely good tours but expensive (less expensive if you tour-share). They do sell-out quite early.

Car hire is available in Honfleur (but takes quite a bit of googling), it's easy driving & parking, & properly researched it's pretty easy navigation. Most folk take the A/N13 to their furthest point, then work their way back along the slow coastal lanes - its easy to switch back to the fast 13 divided-highway at any point if time is short.

Well worth joining your RollCall, there's likely to be fellow-cruisers seeking tour-share.

We love driving in the Normandy area since it gives us the maximum freedom to do what we want...when we want. While tour groups will spend a fair amount of time at major tourist stops....you can spend a lot of time simply waiting for a bus load to use bathrooms, eat their lunch, etc. Small private tour groups are also a great option in this part of France since you can avoid the cattle-like situation oft encountered by large 50+ bus groups.

Per CC rules, you need to post your inquiry in the Roll Call for your cruise.

Have a great trip!

Overlord Tours, mentioned by John Bull above, does do the Normandy Beaches tour from Honfleur (among other ports). A group of 8 of us used them a couple of years ago (out of Le Havre) and had a fantastic day. As John said, they are expensive, and they are a small company and book up very quickly.

If you go the private tour operator route, regardless of who you use, act quickly and reserve someone!
