Martin and Lindsey Posted April 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2015 We are booked on Patrick's 3/4 day lagoon and lunch tour. This means we will finish around 2.30pm. Can anyone give me information about what there is around the tender dock that we can do before we catch the tender back to the ship? :)
RZ3 Posted April 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2015 Lots of little shops. There's a place that sells art to the right (south) that is run by a lady from the states. The the left (north) just about 1/4 mile away is a little shopping center with a small restaurant where you can grab a drink and a bite to eat and use their free wifi. Northern Aurora Posted April 19, 2015 #3 Share Posted April 19, 2015 We've tendered twice at Bora Bora, and right at the tender dock is building with craft stalls. I don't recall ever purchasing anything, but enjoy the browsing.
Rare Hlitner Posted April 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2015 There is not much around the tender dock other then a few tiny shops. If you are not taking a tour, or planning on just going to a resort for the day, we would suggest renting a car from either Avis (Vaitape location). These cars sell out far in advance so reserving is necessary. Hank
Martin and Lindsey Posted April 20, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted April 20, 2015 Thank you RZ3, Northern Aurora and Hlitner. We will just want to pass some time there before getting back on the ship. Our tour with Patrick is due to finish at about 2.30pm so we will have plenty of time before 'back onboard' time.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted April 24, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 24, 2015 First of all, you might consider tendering back to the ship and having a light lunch or freshening up. The tenders don't go any great distance, so depending on your evening departure time, you have plenty of time to tender back into town and go the shops. There is the market right by the dock, with lots of shell crafts, mostly jewellery (beware, some aren't very authentic). Back on the road there are some beautiful jewellery and art stores, well worth spending time in, even if you're not buying--great stuff. We watched someone sorting bags of black pearls, for instance and I loved ogling all the black pearl necklaces and other pieces.
Spikesgirl Posted May 5, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 5, 2015 I don't know how late you are going to be there, but during the evening, they frequently have bocce games going on. They are fascinating to watch.
Martin and Lindsey Posted May 5, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted May 5, 2015 Thanks Charlie, Can you enlighten me as to what bocce is please?
Martin and Lindsey Posted May 5, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted May 5, 2015 I have just researched bocce and see it is very like if not the same as petanque. We play that! :)
Spikesgirl Posted May 5, 2015 #10 Share Posted May 5, 2015 Thanks Charlie, Can you enlighten me as to what bocce is please? Sure it's sort of like a combination of shuffleboard and lawn bowling. The object is to get as close to the pallino as possible without hitting it. They say it's a game that times five minutes to learn and a lifetime to perfect. We play it a lot at one of our local wineries. If you check out Wikipedia, there's more of an explanation as to rule and whatnot.
Spikesgirl Posted May 5, 2015 #11 Share Posted May 5, 2015 The guys there are tons of fun to talk to (providing you speak French). The games are pretty much every night. Just make sure you wear bug repellent if you go out. The courts are to your left as you exit the tender.
