CaliforniaAC Posted October 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Hi, We will be on Half Moon Cay on Sunday, November 23rd on the Noordam. I can't recall ever seeing a service there in the Chapel. Does HAL have them? Where would we find out about it? Thanks, AC
catl331 Posted October 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2014 I've heard of vow renewals and weddings being done there, but that's about all.
sail7seas Posted October 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) I've never heard of a service in the small chapel at HMC but for renewals. Edited October 24, 2014 by sail7seas
the2ofus Posted October 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 24, 2014 If I recall correctly, Sunday services are usually around 9 a.m. or late in the afternoon on boar. It would be lovely to have a short service in the chapel on HMC.

IIRC weddings done there must be performed by a Bahamian officiant to be legal, so they aren't done often, and usually on Carnival cruises. Cruise ship Captains do not have the power to officiate at weddings so the couple would have to arrange for clergy or authorized official to perform marriages in U.S. ports. Can't speak for other countries but you are likely right about the Bahamas.
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 24, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 24, 2014 We have been to HMC quite a few times and only once did we see a renewal of vows done there. No regular church services are done there.

While HAL Captains are not authorized to perform marriages, any ship flagged in the Bahamas or Bermuda allow Captains to perform civil ceremonies. Thanks, AC I believe the industry wide practice is to provide a chapel or similar space, but not to provide an officiant or schedule any formal services for fear of having to do so for all faiths and denominations. If a priest, minister, or rabbi is onboard, they can arrange at Guest Services for a note in the daily if they want to hold services, but it generally isn't anything done by the line. I would assume that applies to the private islands as well.
CaliforniaAC Posted October 24, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted October 24, 2014 Thank you eveyone for all the info! I have never seen anything go on over there, so I was just wondering. If there is clergy onboard, and it is in the Explorer, we would go. Have a great day!:) AC

Most usually if there is no priest it is because of a last minute cancellation or such. Priest usually holds daily mass.
Typhoon1 Posted October 25, 2014 #12 Share Posted October 25, 2014 Other than vow renewals and weddings, I don't believe HAL utilizes the chapel. It seems to be a piece of Bahamian history.
