Plus size cruiser

I was really hoping to lose like 50 lbs before my first cruise in a month but due to an overload of stress and stress eating it doesn't look like that's going to happen. 🙁 This may sound like a silly question but can I still have fun being so overweight? I'm afraid I'm going to be the biggest woman on the ship and I won't have fun. It's only me and my 14yr old son going. I already can't do the zip line or horseback riding and probably not the snorkeling as they all seem to have the same weight limit. Our cruise is 4 days and from Long Beach to Catalina Island to Ensenada and back.

You will see ALL shapes and sizes!

As always some will be smaller or bigger than you.

Most people are to busy to care what anyone weighs.

Plus you'll never see these people again.

You'll have fun, can swim in beach just get your own

mask and enjoy. Plus can swim in the pools on the

ship. You don't need a tour.

Lots of things to do on the ship. Catalina Island nice

place to walk around. Have a small beach. Have a

glass bottom boat can book and see fish.

Just go and enjoy and don't think about your weight.

Also please enjoy the food on the cruise and don't

worry about it. It's four days. Can watch your weight

when you come back home.

Belle said it best. There will be people of all shapes and sizes are onboard.

Lots to do at both ports that aren't active.

The water is too cold to snorkel, do the semi sub if you want to see what's happening under the waves.

Look on the Carnival, West Coast Departure, Mexican Riviera, California Coastal and, Fashion & Beauty boards for more info.

It's absolutely impossible to lose 50lbs in one month. If you set more reasonable goals you will have a lot easier time losing weight and avoiding burnout. You can safely lose up to 2lbs per week, so there is still time to lose 5-10 lbs depending on how much time there is exactly in your cruise :)

Every aspect of life is more difficult when you are overweight or obese. If you are too heavy to ride horses I'd imagine that you are facing health issues either now or in the future because of your weight. It doesn't mean that you can't have fun on your cruise, but maybe this can be the wakeup call you seem to need. Instead of worrying primarily about having the most fun on your cruise, you could use this as a catalyst to motivate you to turn things around once and for all, so that in a year's time you won't be looking back on the time you almost did something about your weight.

I actually disagree that you should completely let loose food-wise while on the cruise and worry about weight loss after. If you put it off for another month, or do well for a month and then let loose for the four day cruise, you probably won't get back on the wagon as easily as you think you will once vacation time is over. I let myself eat like I used to for a week of vacation after losing 35lbs and it triggered a year-long backslide. Ultimately, making a change and being healthy is going to be much more worth it than eating some midnight pizza. And you can still enjoy the cruise food without overindulging!

I'd sign up for MyFitnessPal and check out the forums. There are a lot of people who've been through what you are going through and they can offer you invaluable advice. If you haven't started losing weight, start today. Even if you can't lose 50lbs in a month, you can lose some weight and that month is going to pass regardless. If you don't lose anything, you are just going to be looking back on this day and thinking "wow, if I had started in August I could be X lbs by now."

Here's what I would tell you. One, there will be lots of plus-size folks, male and female on board. They will be having lots of fun. You can too and I hope you and your son do have fun.

Two, because your cruise is in a month, I wouldn't try to lose weight now, but wait instead until after the cruise. Here's why. You may gain a little weight on the cruise even if you are careful because of the high sodium content of much of the food. I gain weight most cruises, but it is gone in a day or two afterward. The only way that could be possible is if the gained weight is water weight.

Once you return from the cruise look into a weight loss plan that you can sustain for years and I do mean that. So many strict, radical weight loss plans can give you dramatic weight loss, but the diet is so severe or so hard to follow, you simply cannot stay with it. Soon the weight returns, often even more.

Many of the contestants on "The Biggest Loser" regained some or all of their lost weight in the months following the show because the diet and exercise program could not be sustained.

Take a long-term approach to weight loss by changing counterproductive habits, developing better habits, learn about nutrition, find an exercise program you enjoy and will stick with. Remember this will all set a great example for your son too. Best wishes to you in this new adventure and I hope you love and your son love your cruise.

I'm currently on a weight loss spree but I am a plus sized cruiser. Hoping to lose a lot before my cruise in April but I will say this...I went on 2 cruises in 2016 as a plus sized cruiser and had a blast! There is so much to do. The ropes course seems fun but there are also trivia and other games that my 16 year old daughter also enjoyed, shows, bingo, bands, meet and greets, casinos, drinks, spa, game rooms, the list goes on. Don't let weight slow you down and never worry about what others think. You do you. Enjoy time with your son and have fun on your cruise!

I always viewed my cruises as a well deserved extravagance. Many have said it well - enjoy your family, enjoy the time away, enjoy the weather, and yes - enjoy the food.

If you want little victories, take the stairs when you can, limit the rich foods to one or two per day, and healthier options the rest of the time.

But I sure wouldn't worry about NOT enjoying your cruise - If nothing else - you'll never see any of them people ever again so live it up!

I agree with everyone's great advice. You will have a great time on your cruise, and will not feel self conscious at all because there are all shapes and sizes on the cruise.

Before your cruise, start eating healthier so that you can make healthier choices on your cruise. Do not go on those extreme diets that eliminate food groups.

What works best for me is to eat balanced meals, protein, carbs, and low fat, and I exercise and train with weights at the gym. I never eat fried, salty foods, or drink alcohol. On a cruise, I splurge on desserts, but train at the gym and drink lots of water. Again, everyone is different. Eat healthy 80% of the time and exercise all of the time.
