Looking for transportation information from the cruise port in Shanghai to a hotel in the city.

Are there companies to get ahead of time? taxis? Private cars?

Hope to get some good info.

Try Shanghai taxi. We booked it for airport-hotel-airport.

Sent from my dogs' iPad, but they let me share.

When we have arrived by cruise ship (RCI Mariner) we easily take a taxi to our hotel (The Grand Central our favorite)...absolutely no reason to pre-book or arrange this at all. So many taxi's lined up and waiting...we just always have the name and address of our hotel printed out in English and Chinese to show the person at the head of the taxi line and to give to our taxi driver. We've done this a couple of times with no problem at all.

How much was the taxi from port to downtown Shanghai? Was it metered?

We have looked into transfers. One is $67 for 2 people with meeting right outside port but not English speaking driver. Other is a little more expensive wirh English speaking driver but unclear where they pick up. Said a few minutes walk from hall. ( or do all drivers meet you and then walk to where parked?)

First time there. Hard to picture. Any thoughts appreciated.

Google taxi fares Shanghai or any other city, and you can get an estimate of price. Forget the actual web site name but have used it for many countries and it is pretty close to amount charged.

Why would a taxi driver in Shanghai speak English? How good is your Chinese?

I lived in Shanghai for three years and we would hail local taxis all the time. No problems. Very easy. Have the name of where you want to go before you get a taxi, both in Chinese and English, before you get into a taxi, in the event the driver does not understand where you want to go. Shanghai is a very fascinating city! Good luck!
