Phu My - Port Permit

Can anyone tell me what happens if you meet your private tour guide outside the port gates please? Do you just walk out or do you have to go through more security checks? Just wondering how easy it is, as we are not overly keen on sending our passport details via the internet for the port permits. Thanks.

Just walk out to the port gate - is safe and will take about 10 minutes.

Still think it is advisable to have you transport pre booked. The taxi mafia are a force tO be reckoned with.

Sorry, you do not need to send passport details etc - if asked to provide them find another tour operator.

People asked to provide that information is simply a practice that exists to make cruisers feel that the $25 per person to pick up ship side is legit. It is the port authority extracting tea money from persons perceived to be wealthy.

We picked up our tour at the port gate but on our return we were dropped off at the ship.

We also just walked to the port entrance...you can see it from your ship (ours was Mariner)...just a couple minutes walk...and everyone else will be doing the same except for ship excursions. Our private guide was waiting there for us with two vans for the group that was organized with our roll-call...Very easy...no reason to send any passport info when doing it this way.
