Hello all fellow cruisers, I am cruising in October with Royal Caribbean and I want to book a drinks package and I need some advise from you more experienced cruises, We are looking at getting the drinks package, but not sure which to go for either the premium or the ultimate package - My husband is a beer drinker and likes to drink real ale, dose not drink shorts, however, I will drink shorts, cocktails and some beer, and we both like a glass of wine with our meal. Your advise will be greatly appreciated

There is a lot of information about the various drinks packages in the Royal Caribbean boards.

Yes I have seen but none of them tell you what drinks are included, there is an amount limit for each drink but not a list of drinks that covers the price limit, just thought some one maybe able to give advise from there experiences.

Great question thanks

We are also first time cruisers departing 7th September for a 14 night med cruise on Celebrity Eclipse.

What drinks are included as standard please?

I had a brain haemorrhage last October and after 2 major surgeries I get a little anxious, so all advice will be greatly appreciated.

I must say we do love our wine, but really at $110 a DAY drinks package that will be some money after 14 days .

Thanks everyone

HX

Please excuse any typos but due to my brain surgeries motor control isn't great .

Thanks

Here is the way I calculated it...we are sailing on Celebrity which is part of the same family as RCI

As far as as alcohol packages, Celebrity offers 2 packages...Classic and Premium....they also have a wine package but that doesn't cover cocktails.

The Classic package cover drinks up to $7 and the Premium covers drinks up to $14. Both of these include wine, soft drinks, bottled water and specialty coffees....neither include bottles of wine but do offer a discounted price on them.

The Premium Package for an 11 night cruise was $1350 USD for my wife and I....$675 each. So I had to figure if both my wife and I could drink $675 each worth of beer, wine, cocktails, bottled water, soda, coffee in 10-11 days.

It seems like it would be difficult to use up $67 a day in drinks. The thing you have to remember though, is the price of those drinks. $14 and up for some wines by the glass. One glass of wine with lunch, one late afternoon by the pool, one with dinner and one on your balcony late night and you've eaten up almost all of that $67.....tips are included in the package as well. IMO, 4 glasses of wine from lunch to bedtime is not pounding the alcohol.

I know there will be port days where we will not be drinking as much on the boat. But there will also be nights at the casino where I take in my share.....I have run up a $100 bar tab with my wife on occasion, so I can't imagine what that would compare to with ship prices. I also have to take remember that in this calculation, I haven't added in the price of sodas(I believe they are about $2 a can), bottled water, coffee, etc.

I bought it to make the vacation more like an all inclusive. I should have no worries about my total bar tab at the end of my trip. Nobody is going to be able to make this decision for you. You have to look at the price and decide if it is a good value based on your own personal behaviors.

Hope this helps

  • 2 weeks later...

We sailed RCI in April and treated ourselves to the drink package. We bought the 2nd highest one that included beer, wine and liquor. A friend of ours got the one that was just beer and wine.

Like other posters, we thought about when we might want drinks. A few by the pool, one while getting ready for dinner, a glass of wine with dinner and one or two at the casino. Don't forget to factor in the package includes soda.

RCI also allows guests to use the package on the private island. Therefore, you do t "lose" that day of your package.

The best part is not all members of your party have to purchase the same package or any package at all.

If there are two of you, maybe one should get it and the other one doesn't. Then you can do a cost analysis at the end of the trip!
