This is a copy of the email i recieved last night because i just wanted to see what Carnivals "standard" way of answering this question about the Destiny issues would be: The problem was FIRST detected JUST this past saturday??? Hmmmmmm...

____________________________________________________________________________

Thank you for contacting Carnival Cruise Lines. We have received your e-mail message and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

Please be advised the problem was first detected on the cruise which left this past Saturday. Although our technicians have been hard at work to make the necessary repairs we do not have a scheduled date for drydock. Please feel free to view our E-brochures online at http://www.carnival.com to see which itinerary is of your best interest. For pricing contact our Reservations department a 1-800-327-9501.

If there is anything else we can do for you please don't hesitate to ask.

Regards,

Cook you please tell me when Carnival plans to drydock the Destiny to finally address the propulsion problems causeing pax to miss ports? I am in the process of arranging a group cruise for our company trip and want to schedule around a possible cancelled cruise due to dry dock.

Contact Type: Already Booked

i sent back a reply email :)

While I appreciate your STANDARD carnival answer, the problem was NOT first detected just this past saturday as I have many friends that have sailed the destiny in recent months...this problem has been severely impacting pax since OCT i have had several friends over the past few sailings all get 50 OBC for missed ports, I would like a MORE non standard answer as to what Carnival plans on doing about this. If you yourself can not answer the question please pass it on to the appropriate department. As a repeat carnival cruiser myself, this answer is insufficient, and may also impact my decision to book two upcoming 2010 cruises.

I wonder if they're hiring in their Solutions dep't. I can BS with the best of them.

considering that i am an insurance agent and spend 85% of my day on here.. ( thank god its my own office LOL) i would probably enjoy that job alot better.. all i get to say is,, Im sorry i dont make the rates i just tell you what they are LOL I am not a solution specialist though, so i guess im gonna need to go to some kind of training or something LOL

"Carnival must think we are stupid..."

Sure sounds like it doesn't it. It is what I have come to expect from Carnival when ever anyone makes a complaint of any kind.

i would have been happier with " we have been aware of the problem and are trying every solution short of dry dock to ensure our passengers are satisfied with the vacation they paid for." not .. ohhhhh this JUST happened like 5 min ago,, we had NOOO idea!!! Bollocks!!!! when i bring on my case of beer... "oohhhhh my suit case came like that!! I had NOOOO idea" :) lmao

I just fired off an email to Carnival to see what reply I get. I sent it directly to my PVP.

My concern is, if they do make the decision to dry dock the Destiny, and it happens to coincide with our week (3/4-3/8), would we be given adequate time to book something else? (We all have non-refundable airfare from Chicago.)

That's my concern too. I even called to see about the possibility of switching to a different ship during that same weekend until I learned that we're booked ES (my friend made the booking so I wasn't entirely sure) so it would be more trouble than it'd be worth to do so. I was assured that if they do indeed have to cancel for drydock that we'd be given "adequite" notice and the chance to receive FCC. I'm just not sure if I can trust what they're idea of adequite is.

Received a phone call from my pvp, assuring me that the issue on Destiny is currently being taken care of, and that our cruise in early March is so far out there, I shouldn't worry about anything. Crossing my fingers.

They told my GF jenni the same thing last week.. and then emailed her the day of embarkation that Key west was cancelled.. I dont want to put a damper on your cruise,. you will have a good time no matter where she sails... just go into it knowing you may not go where you had orginally planned and start looking at excursions or things to do in nassau or freeport so that you are ahead of the game if you get that sad email...

Do you really think that a PVP has any clue on the condition of a ship?

We're on the same cruise with the same situation.

the problem I have with the future cruise credit is, it's not going to help me with our march week, I could always apply it to our June cruise on Dream, but we'd be out the non-refundable airfare for March. If we could get a refund for the Destiny cruise (with adequate notice), there are two RC cruises that line up with the dates. We also did ES fares, so we're locked in.

Oh well, we'll have to cross our fingers and hope for no dry dock during our week. Port changes don't even bother me at this point, as long as I get to cruise somewhere.

I don't even have a dog in this fight as we sailed Destiny in August and it was fine but to think that a PVP or anyone who answers the phone at Carnival has a clue on something like that is absurd.

Probably not, but it was worth a try. Like I said, not as worried about missing ports as the possibility of them doing a dry dock during our week and when we would be notified.

Those of you familiar with the virgin islands will laugh your a## off at this one. Carnival Miracle 2008 - reading on line about propulsion problems. Worried as other posters about cruise being cancelled. A month or so before trip called TA questioning what was going on. Told me don't worry. Called Carnival, said "what's up?" Told we would have itinerary change (TA didn't even know this). Itinerary going from Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Tortolla to Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Grand Turk. Said this to me (and don't fall off your chairs laughing) propulsion issues we don't want to go deeper into caribbean so have to go to Grand Turk.

For those of you not familiar ---you can throw a rock from the top of St. Thomas and hit Tortolla:rolleyes:

Called TA said "are they kidding?!" After all was said and done though we did go to Tortolla after all. In 2009 they changed it from Tortolla to Grand Turk. I smell financial investments in Grand turk ;)

I thought it's already been established that the current problem with the Destiny is new, reported on 1/23:

Here's an email I got just this morning, in response to an inquiry I made about the Destiny and her ongoing propulsion problems:

"Thank you for contacting Carnival Cruise Lines. We have received your e-mail message and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.

I don’t have any information on the Destiny ship. If you booked thru a travel agency please contact agent. If not you could get more details from Guest Service Department available 24 hours a day 7 days a week at 1800-327-9501.

If there is anything else we can do for you please don’t hesitate to ask."

I just enlightened her about the news release so that she can have current information to provide the other guests who might inquire.
