Books to Prepare for Alaska

I have guides for Alaska (my favorite DK guide) and guides for sailing the Inside Passage and am all set in that regard.

I just finished If You Lived Here, I'd Know Your Name by Heather Lende and it was about small town living in Haines. A quick read and very enjoyable. James Michener's Alaska is next on my reading list.

Do you read about the life in the area before you cruise? Do you have any suggestions for "Alaska" reading. Thanks for your suggestions!:)

Certainly not a cruise book but I found "Where the Sea Breaks Its Back" a very enjoyable read. It's about Vitus Bering's journey from eastern Russia to Alaska and, primarily, his naturalist passenger, Georg Steller.

I am reading Alaska now and love it! Have had to put it down for a few days...hope I can pick it up this weekend.

If you're looking for something light, try Northern Lights (Nora Roberts).

Thanks for the recommendation on Heather Lende's book. I just downloaded a sample to my NookColor. :D
