Adventure Girl Posted May 22, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Which week did you sail in May? How was the weather? Warm or Cold.....were you able to swim in the pools? Could you sit on deck w/o jackets? I have heard the pools on Voyager are heated? Is that true? Thanks Glad to hear that you had a wonderful time. You will be hooked now for life. travellady Posted May 22, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Just booked the Voyager for an August 8 cruise. What stateroom were you in? Pickings were slim for me - got deluxe oceanview, deck 10, 1392. It's in the very back - do you have any idea how this might be? Quiet?
cruise pup Posted May 22, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Hi. I've taken 3 cruises to Halifax in the summer, so I can tell you that when you are at sea you most likely will need a light jacket, sweater or sweatshirt. Last July 4th weekend we had fog and chilly temperatures at sea. When we got to Halifax it was beautiful. So my advise is no matter how hot it is in NY/NJ when you board, make sure you have something for those sea days. As for Halifax, there is plenty to see and do in town and outside. In town, the popular destinations are the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic which has a very good Titanic exhibit, the Citadel, which is a fortress that features a changing of the guards (this is way up a steep hill, in fact a lot of Halifax is up a steep hill). There's the waterfront area that has lots of nice shops, including a glassblowing workshop and showroom for Nova Scotia crystal (very expensive) and restaurants (Salty's is great for seafood). A little ways out is a cemetary with a section devoted to Titanic victims. You'll need to hire a car or take a tour to do this. There are also plenty of boat trips including the Harbour Hopper which is an amphibious vehicle (land and sea). Also whale watching tours. Murphy's On the Water features a lot of boat trips. Check out their website: www.murphysonthewater.com If you want to do that, don't purchase the ticket on the cruise. I hear it's cheaper to do this on your own. The number one destination out of town is Peggy's Cove, a small fishing village with lighthouse. Other towns to visit are Lunenburg and Mahone Bay (both are featured on a single tour). By the way, another great place to eat that has a dining room and a pub is O'Carroll's. I ate in the pub and had dynamite Digby clams and onion hoops. Loved this place. I haven't been to Saint John, but I'll report back after I return (taking the 5/30-6/4 cruise). cruzin2paradise Posted May 22, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 22, 2004 Since Voyager just came out of dry dock, could you tell there was new paint, carpeting, etc.?? And, if you or anyone else could answer this, how big are the "sofa" beds? My two kids will be sharing the bed and I wonder if there is enough room. 11/20/04 Voyager Roll Call till my Voyage of the Seas

jma2003 Posted May 22, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 22, 2004 L.W. There are no clocks in the room and I didn't notice lots of clocks around the ship (did anyone notice any?). I would definitely suggest bringing a watch, which will help you when you go from event to event. And if you're worried about waking up in the mornings... you can set a wake-up call. Or... you can always buy a watch on board or at one of the ports. -Joyce
quote:
Originally posted by L.W.: Did you notice if the Voyager had a paperback exchange in library?(going on a 2 week cruise and don't want to lug allot of books).. jma2003 Posted May 22, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 22, 2004 cruzin2paradise, From my standpoint, the ship was not as "remodeled" as I would have thought it would be coming out of dry dock. While a majority of the common areas were nice (with the exception of the Windjammer Cafe, which had linty carpeting)... my cabin (one of the promenade staterooms) left something to be desired. The carpet and couch was dirty and a section of the carpet was stained. They definitely need to steam/wash the carpets or replace them if it still looks dirty. However, I did hear that some of the cabins were not "remodeled"... and probably with my luck... I had one of them. Anyone else in the same predicament? -Joyce
quote:
Originally posted by cruzin2paradise: Since Voyager just came out of dry dock, could you tell there was new paint, carpeting, etc.?? It's aft, as you mentioned, which means that it is quiet, because the only people who go back there are people who BELONG back there. You also have a balcony that is MUCH bigger than a D cabin ("deluxe oceanview") on the side of the ship. DANNYSGRAM Posted May 23, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 23, 2004 We had a problem with the carpet in our room, it looked like someone had spilled catsup on it and then stomped on it. We told the cabin steward about it and said he knew and would we like him to shampoo it. We said "yes", he did it and it was like new. But, why did we have to ask him about it, if he already was aware of the situation? Just another example of the little things that RCCL needs to work on. shamda Posted May 23, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 23, 2004 We had a grand suite and althugh we loved the room, the couch and chair had cuts in them, there was a big red stain near the bed on the floor, the knobs on the dimmer switches were gone and one dimmer switch was gone completely. There were also several bulbs that were out, the remore control for the tv did not work and the fridge was not very cold. Did not look refurbished to me. i was told that tile in the common areas like the promenade were replaced while in drydock. The carpeting on the stairs that go from the promenade to the casino was really dirty. Did anyone else notice this? Voyager to Canada

bobbie0253 Posted May 23, 2004 #21 Share Posted May 23, 2004 The carpet in windjammer was replaced. The "look" was what new carpet does. It will go away with time. I too think the ship needs another dry dock. The Sovereign was in better shape. One of the stations in the hot tub in the spa was broken off and not fixed during dry dock. You would think major things like that would have been taken care of. Also our room 8257 had badly chipped counters in the room and the bathroom. The carpet was stained also as was the seating area. Two of the three colored pillows were also missing. I didn't notice any fish in the Aquarium. I did notice pictures of fish stuck to the glass that to me, was tacky. The list goes on and on. Would we sail this ship again? YES. While all this is annyoying it didn't have any true impact on our cruise. Maybe it was all they great people we got to cruise with? Our cruise critic group really made the cruise fun! paminohio Posted May 23, 2004 #22 Share Posted May 23, 2004 This was our first cruise so we had nothing to compare it to so we didn't notice any of the things that were not up to par. I agree with everyone re: their observations, but since I didn't know any better, I wouldn't have noticed them if they had not been pointed out. We had an awsome time (especially with the other cc'ers!) and will definitely sail the Voyager again. After thinking about it, I did notice that the carpeting in our cabin (7318 - balcony hump) was dirty by the balcony door. To be expected from people walking in and out, but would have expected it to be cleaned during drydock. The bathroom counter had a couple of small chips in it, but the rest of the room looked wonderful. I thought some of the food was wonderful and some was fine. I only disliked one thing (the Norweigan salmon - an alternative choice on the dinner menu). I loved their breads...rolls, croissants, etc. Also, I really enjoyed the shrimp scampi and the salmon caesar salad. I wouldn't think first time cruisers would notice the things the veterans did. Although, if I were in the cabin Shamda was and had all those things wrong, I'm sure I'd be disappointed. All in all, she is an awsome ship and I can't wait to go back! re: the pools: They were heated to 84.2 degrees every day and some people were swimming. I passed, however!! shamda Posted May 23, 2004 #24 Share Posted May 23, 2004 Shmobo We were in grand suite 1574. Since there were 3 of us in one room, the extra space was great. The bathroom was huge and very comfortable. It was nice having access to the concierge lounge too, and do not forget to ask the concierge for the ice skating show tickets.
