  1. Shiver me timbers! Yesterday's diner was a hit. The Mexican street corn salad was delicious and I highly recommend trying it. I used a chimichurri-style wet rub on the grilled sirloin and served it with freshly made chimichurri sauce - another winner that will be repeated! It works well for a larger group since it doesn't take too long on the grill. Mitzi's potato salad was up to her usual high standards. I also tried Ree Drummond's green beans and tomatoes. Since they have bacon in them it was bound to be good and it did not disappoint. Ree has a few versions of this recipe but I used the one from Parade Magazine ( https://parade.com/224585/reedrummond/green-beans-and-tomatoes/). It is a very forgiving recipe since it can cook for a long time and can be held at serving temperature for fairly long. It might take the place of the ubiquitous mushroom soup-based green bean casserole this Thanksgiving. We made a rustic blueberry tart topped with vanilla crème fraiche and lemon zest for dessert. So, we tried three new-to-us recipes and they all were good and we will make them all again. The only down-side was that everyone dug into the food before I could get pictures to share here!
  2. We had cheeseburgers last night! Our neighbors are coming over tonight for Argentinean style grilled sirloin with chimichurri sauce. I am also going to try the Mexican street corn salad recipe that @dfish posted a few weeks ago. Stopped in Livorno once but did not spend any time there (we went to Lucca instead). The port seemed pretty "industrial" -
  3. Sounds like something from the Gallery Bar
  4. Here are the vodkas that should (barring supply chain issues) be onboard. 5. I think Brandy Alexanders should count as chocolate milkshakes!
  6. We are back in Saint Paul for a few weeks. Spent some time with the SIL in Bessemer, MI (in the UP, near the WI border) on the drive from Peterborough, ON. She took us to a bar in Hurley, WI (Iron Horse Inn) with great burgers at crazy low prices! I think it may become our go-to spot when we visit in the future. We also stopped at Cold Iron Brewery in Ironwood, MI for good craft beers and some "open mike night" entertainment. I had an Iron City Beer (from Pittsburgh) shirt on, but nobody caught the "irony". We will have one more trip to the "cottage" in October to enjoy the fall colors and do some muskie fishing.
  7. We stopped in Barbados this past March on the Nieuw Statendam. I toured the Andromeda Botanical Gardens near Bathsheba. Look for the photobomber in the last picture -
  8. We had a bunch of friends (from cottages up the lakeshore) over last night. I grilled lots of Bratwurst (from Nueskes in Wisconsin), Mitzi made potato salad, and guests brought tossed salad, raspberry cake, and assorted appetizers. After the feast, we all went out in boats for another "sunset cruise".
  9. I meant to post this sooner but our router problems got in the way. Saturday's (8/20) sunset on Lower Buckhorn Lake (aka Deer Bay) -
  10. The Sea View and Lido bars make awfully good Pusser's Pain Killers and Mojitos.
  11. It is on the bar menu at $8.50 so it should be covered under the SBP
  12. I think the NY Deli on Pinnacle class ships have (or used to have) a late night snack menu. It always sounded good but I was always too full from our 8pm fixed dining to give it a try!
  13. We had a thunderstorm Sunday night. One bolt seemed to be right on top of us and there must have been some type of power surge because our router was dead in the morning! No internet on Monday, instead a trip in the rain to Peterborough's Costco for a replacement. At least it was on sale. We are now back up and running and trying to catch up. I did download a couple of the cauliflower steak recipes...
  14. Would one of these be helpful? I wear them occasionally if my tendinitis flares up from too much tennis.
  15. From our one stop in Nassau (Nieuw Statendam, 2019), we quite liked the port -
  16. Hello Jacqui, I am very sorry for your difficult experience with Shadow but I salute you for doing your best to help the troubled pup. We will be joining Crystalspin on Koningsdam - 17-Feb-24 - 35 day Hawaii, Tahiti & Marquesas Take care of yourself, Fred & Mitzi
  17. We had a pair of swans visit our bay a few times yesterday -
  18. We arrived safely at our Kawartha Cottage on Friday. The grass needs cut and my riding mower won't be back from the shop until Monday! For Lighthouse Day -
  19. We are heading back to the cottage tomorrow! Just did the ArriveCAN app, it was quite simple since most of the info was saved from our last trip. I only had to enter new travel dates.
  20. Hi Jacqui, As you probably know, the Rotterdam TA cruise in April of 2023 has been changed to a 150th Anniversary cruise with a complete change in the itinerary. So we are now on - Rotterdam - 03-Apr-23 - 21 day 150th Anniversary Transatlantic & North Sea Explorer And will be celebrating our 35th anniversary on the anniversary cruise! We also added the - Rotterdam - 24-Apr-23 - 12 day Scottish Adventure & Norse Legends Onto the end of the TA to make a 33 day "collector's" cruise. We were able to keep the same cabin for the entire cruise. So please delete - Rotterdam - 15-Apr-23 - 21 Day Azores & Normandy & Norse Legends Overhead Fred Since we are adding on to the TA cruise, we decided to drop our December Caribbean cruise. So please also delete - N Statendam - 03-Dec-22 - 14 day Western/Southern Caribbean CollectorsOverhead Fred Thanks and best of luck with Shadow! Fred & Mitzi
