  1. It's been so long ago, and was on Princess, I just couldn't tell you. But we had an idea of our itinerary and 2 of the three hotels (Princess hotels, only choice. They were nice. Food very expensive, but stores around), long before leaving. Call NCL if you don't know times and places yet, as less than 3 weeks out you should know. Have fun!
  2. No, it really isn't. And I'm starting to see why a friend of mine does not want to post any questions here.
  3. The original post was just pointing something out - I don't see a complaint anywhere. You can decide to read it what way and pop in with direct insults at the OP, or you can just recognize you are doing the exact same math and looking at it different ways. When did this site become about jumping in first to demean a poster as fast as possible? It didn't used to be this way, and honestly it's becoming a little tiresome.
  4. We did the one week cruise and 5 night land tour (2 nights in Denali) in 2015. We did the cruise first and the park/land tour after. In all honesty, I wish we had done the land tour first. It was 5 very action paced days, lots of moving around and unpacking/packing (3 different hotels), full days hiking, and a loooong couple of flights home at the end of it. I wish we had front loaded the big flight/travel, did all the hiking and exploring, and had a couple of sea days to rest up from all that. Instead, we got home exhausted. Happy, but exhausted. Just something to consider. But the land tour was amazing and I highly, highly recommend it. (We were on Princess, so I'm not sure how that compares to NCL.)
  5. Hi WestCoastDeb - thanks for the Review! I completely get where you are coming from. I did my first cruise in my early 30's and was bored to tears. Didn't go back until almost 20 years later, and was in a place professionally where relaxing was imperative. Now I love it, and I get to bring new people on with me and introduce them to cruising. I know I am going to eat well, hang out with friends, walk a ton (and lose a few pounds because of all the walking and no calories after 7pm), read, relax, and eat. (I don't cook, so three diverse meals a day is basically a miracle.) Cruising isn't right for you - right now. That doesn't mean you wouldn't love it at a later date. So if you go again in 20 years, let us know how it goes! In the meantime, there's a world full of adventures out there!
  6. I'm sorry. It sucks to be looking forward to a show and having it canceled. Hopefully the other entertainment exceeds your expectations!
  7. Hi All: Thanks for all the advice on seasickness. All three of us are religious patch wearers. And in spite of that can still get sick in rough seas, somewhat rough seas, sometimes looking at the boat. But we manage, partially by being low and inside. 😄I will definitely get David to invest in a Relief Band, and some ginger chews. I wouldn't want to add any meds to the prescription we already have, but will keep Bonine in mind for trips where I can't be sleepy the day before heading out. The room saga has been interesting. We did go ahead and PAY for David to move to a lesser room (from an I4 to an IF which right now is over $500 cheaper for a solo traveler if you were to buy it online today.) To say I'm annoyed is putting it mildly. My TA tried to argue that he had a guarantee room, not an assigned room, but he bought the same time we did, and they did not have a room at the time for him unlike us. And he is moving from a better bigger room, to a smaller less desirable one and for medical reasons. But they have to get their pound of flesh in. And yes, before people start making all the nasty comments about how horrible I am, how I have no right to exist or be annoyed at anything the saintly NCL would ever do, and how selfish and stupid I am for daring to come on here and not kissing the boots of the company, (yes, this is what I'm seeing a lot more of on the boards lately), I totally get they have a right to assign us any room as none was available the day of purchase, and charge us anything they want as we are less than 120 days out. I get that. I am not trying to say they did not have the right to do that. I'm just saying that NCL customer service on this trip is batting zero, and while they can do it, decent companies would not make good customers pay more to downgrade. Okay, the airline would, but y'all know how much you love them. I've put bids on the balcony upgrades, but am not sure I will keep them. It might be more better for the group to all be close to each other, versus having a balcony to hang out in. Time will tell. In the meantime 96 days to go, and I'll not let NCL's nickel and diming dim my anticipation! Hope you have a trip coming up soon too!
  8. Hi Everyone: Thank you so much SpainAlien, 9tee2Sea, and lepidoptera! Your answers certainly make me feel better about the bidding process! I am aware there is a double charge for singles (room upgrades actually start at $100 and $300), but put in my real cost, as opposed to my bid which will have the bid. We don't want to change rooms for David, as he was put into a class and I am hoping that will help with the bidding process. And I may not get upgraded, but that's okay too. Just means I save some money. We'll and see if we can get rooms changed, but it seemed difficult for others to do, so I'm not going to hold my breath. 😉 But we have 100 days (100 days!!!!) so maybe we'll try with a couple different agents and see what happens. Thank you all again! Has anyone else had good luck swapping rooms before sailing?
  9. Oh, I thought those were for the nights you really, really drank too much. 😄
  10. Hi CC Braintrust: I am headed on the Sun in August for 10 days in Alaska! Very ready for a vacation, but some odd questions for y'all. (I promise I have looked for answers, but haven't found this specific set of scenarios.) I have questions about room swapping, and about the upgrade bidding process. Question 1 - Three of us are going, all with single inside rooms. Two of us are on the 4th deck, and the third, my friend David, we just found out is on the 10th. David is prone to seasickness (all three of us are, but I'm the least), and was hoping to be on 4 like the rest of us are. Because of his seasick tendencies he and I are planning on switching rooms. So I will be on 10 and he will be on 4. Is the best bet just to get two keys for each room and use the swapped key for getting in the cabin, and the other key for charging stuff? Or should we try to get the two accounts switched at a customer service desk? In all honesty, I'd rather just deal with one key if you know of any way to get accounts switched. We'd also be okay at settling up after the cruise if we each used the switched keys, but I feel like I'd have a hard time charging stuff as "David." Advice? Question 2 - I am planning to bid on an upgrade from inside to balcony, but club balcony is also available for a reasonable price. We will be using David's room to do the bidding and I (meaning him and I'd repay him if successful) would like to put a bid on both a balcony for one amount (starts at $200, but will probably bid $300), and a club balcony (starts at $600and that's all I've got) for a higher amount. My question is, what happens if both are available? Would they be able to upgrade me to a balcony for that amount, and immediately upgrade me to club balcony for the other amount? I can find $600, but $900 is definitely out of my budget. Or if I got one, would all others bids be wiped out? If anyone has ever bid on more than one room, do you have any experience with this? And/or are there "rules" or a way to mark that only one bid should be accepted? Thank you so much for any help! Susan
  11. Saw no jackdonkery from you in this thread. But even if I had you'd get a pass because: 1.) I like your reviews - lots of good information and photos; and 2.) Goldens!
  12. Wait, wait, wait! Is no one going to discuss the elephant in the room? No one going to talk about the huge revelation the review provided? The horror, the terror, the extremism of it all? No one else thought it important enough to mention? No one else was startled into complete paralysis? Really? . . . . . . A retinal can detach without trauma? I mean it can just throw a temper tantrum and divorce your eyeball? Seriously? Just driving along and it's decides to get out of the car early? Add this to my growing list of nightmare scenarios of bodily betrayals! In all seriousness, I hope he's totally recovered and the eye is going to behave from now on.
  13. hey probably had the ridiculous notion that there would be plentiful cruises during 2020 and 2021. Silly them.
  14. Hi OP. Sorry you got hurt. Thanks for the heads up on some considerations about what to do if hurt on any excursion, not just beach ones. It's nice when people come on here and share their pain stories so the rest of us have different outcomes. I totally get you were not trying to smear anyone or demand anything from NCL, just sharing some stuff to keep in mind. I'm sorry there are so many jackdonkeys that have to mansplain the obvious as if you couldn't have figured out wearing shoes was a good idea on your own. There's always going to be the psuedosuperior who of course have never made an error in their lives, and live to demean others. Ignore them and those of us who are here to learn new things thank you.
  15. I would love to see someone wearing that on a cruise! It would be like finding a duck!
  16. Agree with this. They can work with difficult situations - i.e. 5 people traveling together who are all linked to one person. (Me and four friends who didn't know each other.) We got it set up so we were all covered if one person couldn't go for covered reasons. The only time everyone would have dropped out was if I could not go, but still that's a fairy complicated request and the price was good.
  17. On Royal Caribbean in August we were able to get a non-alcoholic drink package on sale for about $18/day plus gratuities. It was amazing - specialty coffees, fresh squeezed juices, sodas, shakes, and mock tails ("virgin") drinks were all included. I loved that and would pick a latte in the morning over a cocktail in the evening anytime. I do wish NCL had a choice like that. That said, I am very impressed with the drinks package at just a tad over $20/day. So no specialty coffee or fresh juice, but basically everything else, and I get my Mudslide every day plus a chance to try some new things. (I.e. we are hitting the mojito and martini bars to do some sampling.) So both are great values and I'm thrilled with the drink package, even if I only do one drink a day and some soda. If I want the specialty coffee I can pay the $5/day for a latte, not enough to ruin my trip over. I'll even spring for $6.25 once for the salted caramel cream nitro cold brew which sounds amazing. Cruising is a great deal and they need to make some money. I can't do food, transportation, sightseeing, solo room, etc. on my own for anything close to my cruise price, and I get to pick and choose what is of value to me. Inside room and more excursions this trip. If coffee is huge for you, and you drink at least 2 a day, get the card. Otherwise, just enjoy one when you want it. And don't forget to budget for coffee in port - you can't take it off and it supports the local economy. Heck, finding the best coffee in each port can be a great excursion! Have a blast!
  18. So I received the message "We are sorry, we have no space available." Does this mean I'm ineligible? Or since my cruise is 165 days out, and I haven't made final payment yet, is it just too early? Any help greatly appreciated!
  19. I was going to post a question asking if the room service 7 layer cake was the same. Thanks for answering that question! May have to use room service just to try it. 🙂
  20. No feedback, just sympathies. That sounds like a lot of noise and drinking crowds. Hope the size of the ship lets you avoid most of it.
  21. I'll trade you - I'll take your annoying credits and you pay the extra $250 I was charged. 😉
  22. This happened on January 3rd, they were notified on January 6th. By February 2nd they had listen to the recording of the call and agreed with my TA that I was mistaken charged the $250 twice. It is now February 20th, 6 weeks since they were notified of the mistake. My credit card is about to drop for the second time. It is $250. If I carried a balance I would be paying interest on this amount again, as it is I had to dip into savings as it was not part of my monthly budget. They charged me twice. They removed the thing I bought at least 3 days ago. There is no sign of a refund. I did not do anything wrong. Yes, sorry I don't live in your "money is no issue" world, but I have been patient, I am trying to get my money back, and there is no sign that is going to happen. A mistake is corrected. NCL is not attempting to do that in any timely manner. It's too late to work with the CC company online as the credit card has dropped, and I don't know what they will call it, but charging someone twice and not fixing it is fraudulent, period. But I really don't need to be preached at over language when it's my money that's been taken by the company and not returned, even as they have admitted it's their mistake. Take your patronizing elsewhere.
  23. Thanks Hallux. It doesn't show any coupons, and when I did try and do a mock booking, it did not appear. So definitely been removed, now I just have to see when they will finally refund it. I think it should be the moment they remove it..... but NCL accounting seems to be very different from we mere mortals. 🙂
