  1. I think I am going to use Miched's logic to convince my DH that we should book another expensive cruise on the Edge! :D

In this case I should try to persuade my DH that we should retire and cruise about and SOCI ;)

  2. Just thinking about the demographics of the passengers on Celebrity I think for many they shouldn’t procrastinate waiting and hoping for lower prices.

[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] here is an optimistic view! But seriously, any long term plans at any age is a bit of a gamble, on more than one level ;)

  3. Well, contrary to what some may think, one cannot recognize an Elite member simply by looking at them....unless they are wearing their special pin.

But why does one need to recognise an Elite member??? I connect with people I like, not because of their status. The whole thing reeks with snobbism dare I say!

  4. Don’t tell the Kiwi’s but it’s near on as good as Aus.

it is not a competition, you know! but ... I know that I would much rather be in a beautiful country without snakes and venomous spiders than in a beautiful country with these creatures and the necessity to look under your toilet seat (pardon my common jargon) every time you need to use WC. :)

  5. Have you ever asked if the staff receive that money? At one cafe when I asked, was told the money goes towards buying a new coffee machine. At another cafe was told that the staff never get any of the money.

  6. We took our first Regent (first cruise, actually) when I was 43…I’m 51 now. We’ve done several since, and a couple of Azamara and one Celebrity.

It just depends on what you are wanting. I agree with other posters…Regent is an older but vibrant crowd, for the most part. We are amongst the younger ones there, but not the youngest (and the more years we cruise, the more we see younger couples on board…odd ). With few exceptions, other passengers are kind, friendly, happy, and help make a great cruise experience. It seems most of those we meet there are self-made, have worked hard, are appreciative of the moment and the lovely surroundings.

Regent is what we want…quiet and relaxing. We have 3 kids and our couple-trips are our sanctuary…a place to relax and re-charge. Cruiselines are all different with different strengths. What we’ve found on Regent (JMO)…

    •
    • Good-to-great food, included wines are quite nice and they are very accommodating about getting a wine you like.

    • Plenty of 2-person tables in the restaurants. And plenty of tables for 4, 6, or 8 also.

    • Suites/cabins are large and well-appointed (Mariner, Navigator, Voyager…there are some smaller basic suites in the lower categories on Explorer/Splendor)…balconies are nice

    • Great atmosphere…included drinks makes the passengers happy and relaxed, even those who don’t drink (and I’ve never seen anyone on Regent who was truly drunk)

    • Wonderful crew*

    • ‘elegant casual’ dress, so no required jacket/ties or long gowns, but dressing up is fine too

    • Below-average shows, although guest-entertainers and the Regent bands are enjoyable and talented

    • Wonderful room-service meals

    • Quiet pool area, lots of sun-chairs (some on upper-deck), classy bars and public areas

    • Not much night-life in the bars, but there are some planned activities every evening

    • Fun general-trivia and music-trivia, varied organized-activities all day…good lecturers also

    • Good (included) in-room movies, and some tv-shows

    • Good included excursions in most of the world…I’m not a fan of most of those in the Caribbean and Mexico, though

    • The Spa seems nice, but I wouldn’t know. It’s not my thing…and it’s a bit pricey

    • The gym is sufficient

    • Smaller ships, fewer passengers (but we just got off of a 14-day and saw ‘new’ people the last couple of days and on disembarkation that we hadn’t seen during the cruise, so it’s not a tiny ship either)

    * the crew…they’re well-trained and very hard-working. But if you’re new to luxury cruising and believe the ‘6 star’ hype and envision that ‘if you drop your napkin, someone will be there to catch it before it hits the ground’ type thing, you might be a little disappointed/disillusioned. It’s just a very nice cruiseline with, like all cruiselines, overworked people doing a great job. They are focused on making the cruise the best experience possible.

    Have fun choosing, and cruising!

Thank you for a fantastic summary. Honest, cowering all the basics and easy to follow. Great [emoji106] job! Thank you!

  7. We are paying $1,536 USD total with fees and taxes for a decent placed balcony cabin. Can't find anything close. Couldn't do an inside or ocean view on an 8 day cruise. I'd go crazy :). I spend a lot of time on the balcony so that is important to us.

I hear you, I am the same - need to be able to feel the air :) so is your cruise 8 days?

Just had another look - taking into account exchange rate - no way Celebrity is even close in price, even though it is a couple of days longer - on a per diem basis :(

  8. And I know someone will come on here and say Celebrity is not expensive and give examples of "great" deals. Well I hope they do and I am always looking for a cruise deal.

Sadly, I’ve noticed that X prices are creeping up ... no scientific data here but as an accountant I do have a fair “feel” ;) can’t compare with other lines but seems that it is more likely to grab a better deal elsewhere (again, comparing apples with apples eg NCL with NCL)

Hopefully someone will come up with a good suggestion!

  9. Prepare for a different mentality of people and officials there. You may not see as many smiles as you are used to. Be cautious - as in any big city. Not many people in the streets speak English - especially older ones. Media installs “dislike” for Americans and Western Europeans, sometimes you may feel it.

It will be busy. Remember that 9 May - if you are there - is the Russian Day to celebrate Vday. It’s always been a special day. Now There will also be a lot of pseudo patriotic frenzy.

Apart from that - a great time of the year to go, you will love it. SP in particular might be a bit cool ( temperature wise).

Be prepared to be blown away by The St Basil’s Cathedral in Red Square and the Isaac Cathedral in St Petersburg. Not sure if Petetgof would be open yet- if yes, it is a must! And so is the Catherina’s Palace in Tsarskoe Selo and it’s Amber Room.

  10. It takes a while before your reviews post on CC. Have some patience. If you posted it correctly, it will eventually post.

How is it done - not like posts on the boards which appear straight away?

  11. Which Celebrity app do you use?

I see Celebrity Cruise Glob - 2017 Beyond the Edge

This is a phone/tablet app called X - for info on cruises such as timetables, shows and dinners info etc. This is not a website

  12. No problem, enjoy the pics as it prepares you for your cruise. There’ll be plenty more added over the next 15 days.

Hi UKPete :) following with anticipation as we are looking at a similar cruise in a couple of years - only perhaps with another line. Looking forward to hear you experience and it is so nice to see Connie again! [emoji7]

  13. It's so unreliable it's almost useless. On the Constellation the menus were correct but often for the previous or following day. Half the activities and most of the shows were not listed, and for some reason the times kept getting out of whack. The ship time listed was always correct but activity times were often 6-10 hours out. The only thing that was always correct was the ship location.

I guess (or rather hope) the other thing that was correct was the ship name? It would be hard to navigate (no pun intended) if it was not [emoji23]

  14. Using it in Reflection now. Sometimes accurate and sometimes not. Sometimes some categories are correct but never all on the same day.

This is pretty much the same as the website. Keep your expectations low.

Seems to me if other lines can be accurate and even include your accurate account information, Celebrity should be able to figure this out.

Disappointing. But the rest of the cruise is going well so I just ignore the app. WiFi is good everywhere I have tried.
