  1. We sailed on Solstice in January but did not stay in one of those cabins. However I have some photos of the balcony of your cabin (9280). It is circled in the second photograph. It would appear that the entire glass balcony wall is not see-thru and that is the extent of the full obstruction.

How did you find Solstice- is she in good shape?

  2. Hello, has anybody recently traveled on Solstice in one of the mid ship cabins where parts of the X logo are located?

There are a couple of older threads here, however nothing recent. If you had this experience - can you please share your thought. We've booked 9280, before I've found a list here which lists this cabin as a "fully obstructive with X". I understand it is only a matter of the glass on balconies, but still would be good to hear from someone who knows :) thanks in advance!

  3. Considering sailing on Celebrity for first time. We are used to interior cabins on Holland and Princess but cannot find info on size of interior rooms on Celebrity. Any information would be helpful.

Each ship has this information if you select a particular ship on X website. It seems to be 170 sq.ft

  4. Here we go again the the class system stuff.

It truly is though - I have no problem with this as such. I do have a problem with the company’s misrepresentation of inclusiveness. As to this particular topic - it is hard to get excited about this cool yellow bus if it will stuck in the exclusive area only

  5. That’s true. It will be for Suites only.

Sad [emoji17]- something like that would be cool and funky for all. There are plenty of other gimmicks for suits. Oh well, X is truly on the path of clearly dividing guests into class system. Perhaps, they should stop promote “inclusiveness “ as it is not so much so. Starting with solo passengers with 100% surcharge ....

  6. Yes We were parked alongside 2 or 3 of those mega yachts with helicopters at St Barth when we were on SeaDream on NYE.

We do get some of these in Auckland - a lot of them visit during our summer, the biggest I think was The A - she was quite a site, nothing like anything else !

  7. When people start talking about “things” they own, I bring up our twin Toyota Corollas which is probably the least expensive car around.;p

Oh, how funny - my DH loves driving our DD’s (who now lives in a different city and does not want a car there) little red Peugeot , especially taking it to his professional association’s meetings, parking it in between various 500’ and 600s :)

  8. When the Edge Spa was first revealed I tried to purchase a couples pass for the thermal suite on our March sailing but was told by Celebrity that these would not be available to purchase pre-cruise. Has anyone else been able to purchase a thermal pass pre-cruise? I know that sometimes the information from Celebrity agents can be . . . inconsistent. :D

Although it shows on the planner, the actual booking did not work for me. That makes sense as the numbers are limited.

  9. I am with your husband on this point. But I think that one gets more snob value out of travelling on an all inclusive luxury ship, because all passengers are treated the same. They are all first class.

So you and your husband are both right.

Being snobby is not a good quality regardless of what class one belongs to. Self righteous and the sense of entitlement are present in any class too. There is hardly anything more boring than a self entitled crowd in an exclusive bar boasting whose boat is bigger ...

  10. You are very welcome , and I greatly appreciate your kind comments. Visiting your neck of the woods is definitely on my bucket list, I'll have to make a mental note to avoid this time of the year.:)

Hope the climate improves for you soon!

The best time to visit NZ is February/March. April- our fall - is spectacular in South Island. You will not regret if you get here! Did you know that NZ is Regent’s seventh largest market across the world (despite our total population being only 4.75 million people?!) and Regent has fabulous itineraries around NZ and Australia;)

  11. Thank you very much for your lovely blog! I've enjoyed it immensely. Today is one of the coldest days in the last three years here in Auckland, NZ (it is mid-winter of course!) , and I literally basked in the sun shining in your pictures, and my heart warmed up with the love you have for your wife and for life! I loved "re-visiting" places we've been to and "tasting" a couple of places we are yet (hopefully) to see! Thank you for sharing your fabulous trip with us! Thank you for being honest about the Regent experience! and.... thank you for making me hungry with all these fabulous pictures of your meals! :)

Thank you, Lois - what a jam and a wealth of "girlie" knowledge! :) I have a lot to study in the next few months! :)

Our next trip will be traveling in December from a NZ summer (like US spring weather) to Denver (winter) for two weeks, and then onto the Caribbean for two weeks - hence packing is in issue and I will have to be more careful than usual! :)

  13. I do bring my own toiletries in travel size containers, don't usually bring appliances (I might bring a curling iron or a flat iron, depending on how I feel before the trip and how long my hair is at that point). One thing we've discussed in the beauty/fashion forum is to test how much product you actually use over the period of time you'll be gone. Get a 100ml bottle of shampoo, conditioner, mousse, hairspray - see how much you use in 7 days or 10 days or 20 days or however long you'll be gone. Then you'll know. If you don't need 100ml (that's the max size for being carry-on liquid compliant) BRING LESS. For serums, I usually only need a teeny tiny amount - I have a couple of very small sample containers from nordstrom I use for those.

If you want to bring less weight, you need to downsize the size and/or number of products you bring. It's that simple. How you decide what you want to downsize is up to you. Throw everything onto a bed and start thinking about your options;p

Thank you, I really like this idea of trying the sizes! What is this beauty/fashion forum you referred to?

  14. I transfer my shampoo into a travel sized container. I could probably do without bringing any at all (hotels and cruise ships all have them) but I like my own. I don’t use hair spray - I hope you mean a pump spray because you aren’t allowed to fly with aerosols - but you should be able to find a travel/sized spray bottle. Most of my toiletries go into my carry- on; I have a number of prescriptions that I need to big. I prefer to put my medications into small plastic bags; I have bags for morning and evening and put 7 days in a bag. (Unless I have heard specific information about the need to keep prescriptions in original containers I don’t because they take up space and weight.)

What kind of accessories are you talking about? I try to very much limit my jewelry; I feel no need to try and impress people when I am on vacation, but that is me.

You can take aerosols (such as hairspray or mousse) on planes - larger size has to go into the hold of course. And that's what I do... My hair does need both a mousse and a hair spray, can't do without - goes flat even in the optimal weather ...

Accessories - usually some (not a lot) dress jewellery (earrings and a necklace or two), a belt, maybe a small (the lightest I can find) evening purse. Again, individually these things don't weigh much. but put these together - easily up to a half a kilo (just over a pound).

  15. Hi, is the question for anyone? What do I do? I pack my toiletries in my carry on bag. They don't take up much space for me. And I don't weigh these items. I have a medium size cosmetic bag...it holds my deodorant, toothpaste, tootbrush, etc....etc......the shampoo is travel size so it goes in there too......my carry on bag has zipper compartments and the cosmetic bag goes into one of the compartments. I don't use hair spray so not something I would pack.

Yes, the question is for anyone - thank you for you reply. I appreciate your reply - but how does this work with

By the time i finish with my toiletries, cosmetics (nos much), sun screens etc, etc - it could get to up to 3-3.5 kg. I do have a fine hair and use a lot of hairspray, but surely, I am not the only one... It is not only weight, but also space. I am much better these days with clothes (packing not too much, what I need, weighing - literally - my options) however, toiletries I struggle with and, for me, it is a huge weight on my shoulders (or arms) :)

  16. I find that at least 1/3 of the weight of my suitcase is “other” stuff such as toiletries, accessories etc. Ant tips here how to bring weight of this stuff ? One does need a shampoo, a hair spray rye, etc so if I don’t take it I may need to buy it, which is often hard due to no shops or brands one is used to . What do you do?
