  1. No worries, it is confusing to figure out. You have time to learn about everything.

I personally did not get a specialty restaurant package because I wouldn't be able to make reservations until I get on the ship. You save money, but you may not get what you want for reservations onboard. If you pay the full price now, you can book online. And to make it even more confusing, some people don't buy packages and wait to book onboard because they sometimes give discounts. Being a new class of ship, with new venues, I chose to book ahead and get the dates and times that I want so I can be sure experience all of the venues. There may end up being no problem getting reservations with the packages. I think you just have to make a choice between cost vs. having firm reservations.

Are you in a suite? If so, what type of suite? I only ask because upper suites have free specialty dining.

Which restaurants are you missing? If you want to do Dinner on the Edge, Magic Carpet or Le Petit Chef, you have to book onboard. The others should be on the Cruise Planner.

Did you see this summary of the venues? If not, it might help. :D

I am with you on bookings in advance vs a discount. I’ve booked dates/times we wanted and will try for MC etc onboard. It’s all quite exciting- just wish it was sooner!

  2. Very interesting review! I feel like a bit of a cheat posting a reply - for two reasons. Firstly, we generally do not cruise that much (places where we want to cruise are on on the opposite side of the globe for us and taking time off is not easy) and secondly, we are yet to try a luxury cruise, which we are booked on, but it’s a while away.

With that disclosure, I will put my “two cents” worth. I am absolutely convinced that the prices between suits on a luxury line and a premium line are comparable. Although , we’ve never sailed a larger, mass line line, a quick research shows that their exclusive area suits are, too, not far from a luxury line cruise line. Although, I have seen posts on some premium line forums here that a suit on a premium is less expensive/more affordable, I don’t buy into it. Besides, once one looks at spending a least three times the price of a veranda cabin, the price sensitivity diminishes - at least to a certain extent.

I believe there is a market for both types -luxury lines and a luxury segment on a non luxury line. The latter would suite better people who travel with families, those who enjoy big ships’ entertainment, and a ‘feel’ of a bog ship whilst still dining, drinking and sunbathing in their artificial paradise (or Heaven :j ) and those who enjoy their “exclusivity” on a bigger ship. Those, who brag - obviously and discretely- on the forums about their experience, and how this compares to other “classes” on a ship. We’ve also encountered those on cruises, who start conversation on a very friendly note and become patronising once realising their opponent is not travelling in the same class as them.

Hence, in my view it makes perfect sense that if somebody is looking for a luxury experience as their absolute “must” for a cruise they should seriously consider a luxury line rather than a “luxury within”.

  3. These warehouse clubs are open to the public, sort of. You have to buy a membership. They sell stuff in larger lots but not the vast quantity you would expect to see from a real wholesaler. Think buying 3 boxes of Cherrios in one package vs a real wholesaler selling 3 cases of 24 boxes....The one we deal with has "warehouses" all over the world but I am not sure if they have travel agents outside the US.

Anyway, Venice cruises do sell very well, very quickly. We did one last year and it was one of the few we have been on in the past 4-5 years that never saw a price drop, in fact the price went way up after we booked.

Thank you [emoji120] our cruise which was sold a long time ahead was ending in Venice

  4. We had a similar experience booking for Sept 2016 on the Constellation. Most of verandas were gone. Our TA was adamant it was a block booking which would be released. We booked a nice verandah out of those few available. No cabins have been released. It was a very popular cruise. Totally sold out a year or more in advance

  5. There is more to spend your OBC on in the Apple lounge than just apple products. They have screen savers for phones, iPads, bluetooth speakers and headphones, SD Card readers for your iPad, etc. I NEVER have trouble spending money in there!

  6. Here are some ideas/suggestions

    Walk-in Closet or standard

Single or double sink in bath

Separate tub and shower or combined

    Shower only

    Lounger on balcony

Smoking - Port Side or Starboard

Sorry, for some of us who have never travelled in a suite, these options may not be even known [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

  7. Does not show as OBC and perks don’t always show, best to have a confirmation/invoice showing all your perks with you on board so you can get things sorted if something is a misd

  8. The first Edge Class cruise will board in 190 days. A couple of us on the Edge Forum have brought up the development of the Edge Class Cabin Information Compilation thread so that we would have it up and running by December 4th (when first cruise disembarks). I know it is a bit early, but the time will go fast.

I looked at the evolution of the S and M Class spreadsheets through the years and comments about potential additions by posters. I was thinking that, instead of just developing a spreadsheet, we could see what Edge posters wanted in the spreadsheet before it gets developed. The functionality of the S and M Class spreadsheets is quite good, but some people here may have ideas for improvements in function as well.

I can get help with developing this, but am happy to have someone here who is more adept develop it. I am also happy to take responsibility for entering the data on a regular basis, since I will be following the thread with great interest, or could share that responsibility with someone. It will be quite time-consuming at the beginning, I suspect.

Here are some ideas for questions, mostly taken from the S and M Class threads. Please share your ideas so we can start to develop a useful, functional Edge cabin spreadsheet.

Hi Janet and Brian, if you look under Celebrity roll calls you will find your sail - this is the best place to meet your fellow cruisers and organise private excursions! What cruise r u on?

  11. He was sold a product. The product that was delivered was not what he ordered. He was told he would HAVE to pay more for the delivered product even though he didn't even want that product. Or let the product go back to the warehouse.

Nobody would accept that scenario with, say, a car or a washing machine. Why is it okay with a cabin?

My apologies, maybe I’ve misunderstood- I thought one option was to stay in the cabin for the same price but lose all restaurants’ bookings?

  12. In limbo. Currently still booked , formal complaint filed by my TA for us. So yes AQ as of now. Hey may end up canceling....

If the price was right - just go with the flow! :)

  13. Agree. Only reason we didn’t is we wanted to experience Edge. If it wasn’t for that we would have canceled. That said it would have been my option not one they offered, lol. They would have loved for me to cancel , as you said they would have had no problem selling our Cabin. [emoji41]

So, are you still going, in AQ?

  14. Very interesting conversations from a whole lot of folks. Kind of covers all types of thinking from all types of economic levels. One point I specially agree with is , you choose based on personal preference and perceived value. Agreed! But! In my opinion that sets a standard , an expectation of future choices. Also what has happened on X with retaining customers? Are they pricing out the conservative buyers. Do they care?

I just booked Edge for a May 2019 Med sailing, it will be my last. My decision had nothing to do with perks or loyalty. Strictly it was made on their complete disregard for us as good customers. Let me explain.

We like C cabins and booked a C-2 for an 11 day Med cruise out of Rome. Over a a month after our booking we heard rumors our bank of cabins had been changed to AQ. Now most folks would have loved that predicament. We called our TA she had no info. We called X no info. After two days one of the couples that was traveling with us received verified info that indeed our cabins had been changed. We where happy but concerned that the dinning reservations we had made would be canceled , so we inquired? Following are the options given to us:

    1. Pay the AQ price for the Cabin they changed after our purchase.

    2. If we stayed in our cabin all the reservations we made would indeed be canceled.

3.Our assigned restaurant would indeed be Blu and no reservations could be made till day of boarding for the 4 new dinning main restaurants. We would loose the time slots we had reserved .

    4. They would put us in another C-2 cabin but with an obstructed view by the Magic Carpet at a higher cost.

    5. Choose one and take it or leave it.

We are Elite customers 11 cruises on X, 8 on RCL mostly Oasis ships, 3 on Azmara, 4 Disney, numerous on other lines like O,Viking,Costa,Regent, etc. Our choices are driven by itineraries, good service and quality of the product. All that said our biggest choice point is, Common sense business practices, X just lost our business.

By the way we started as bottom feeders and worked our way up.

Now, this is a totally appalling treatment for any customer , leave alone to a loyal customer! Different reasons for disappointment to that this f the TS’s and yours are absolutely, totally justifiable! Really sorry to hear that!

  15. There are only so many first timers out there.

Firstly, don’t fool yourself- it is a huge and constantly growing market. Secondly, new cruisers does not mean a low quality service will do, for people still compare - with on land restaurants, high end bus tours, luxury hotels etc etc etc. I agree that X must keep its reputation as a high end mass market cruise line with emphasis on its food - otherwise we they will loose their distincton

  16. Yep:

CEO Lutoff-Perlo: "We try to position ourselves against other vacation options even more than we position ourselves against cruising" (She noted that about 30% of Celebrity guests are repeat customers, and another 25% are people who have cruised on another line but are new to Celebrity. The rest are first-timers, a sweet spot for Celebrity.)

Very interesting article although it is three years old. However I do not believe it talks about making X less appealing to its loyal customers but rather of changing with time
