  1. My sister is on board now, so I am grateful for the reassuring posts here. (I, too, envy them those rough seas!)
  2. The tram ride from the Vieux Port up to Notre Dame de la Garde is cheap, fun and a winding ride through neighborhoods. Once up at the cathedral, you will have a magnificent view of the city (and of my son’s house if you know where to look!). Marseille is certainly not a village, but it is a fun, interesting city. Just beware of strangers offering “help.”
  3. Re the post about QE’s condition being poor: We were on in early June, and everything was in good shape. We’ll be back on in early October, and I only hope that most of the painting will be done by then. The fumes triggered my asthma, but that was the ONLY downside we experienced. I can deal with it to be back on board!
  4. So did we. We hoped it would continue for our trip in October, but it’s not a deal breaker for us.
  5. You are lucky. In QE on June, they didn’t decide to discount the laundry service until more than halfway through the trip (10 days). We packed about half what we’d need because we’d been promised by agents that the self-serve laundries would be open. Ended up doing WAY more hand washing than I wanted to before they finally gave a break on the price. Annoying, especially since we had to learn not to trust information we’re given.
  6. I agree with 57eric. We’re on the same voyage and we’ll stay in Barcelona for three nights before and one after. But then we have an ocean to cross before and after. It just feels safer and more like a true vacation that way.
  7. I agree and would go a step further since masking isn’t all about the person who uses one. It’s meant to protect others.
  8. We are looking at flying to the UK to meet our family from France and then taking the QM2 back to NY, but I am seeing only round trips around the dates we need. Is this something new? Will one-ways likely become available? Any advice is welcome.
  9. We were on QE the first part of June to mid-June and, though when we called with the question the agent told us they were open, they were not. About halfway through our ten days, they decided to offer laundry services at half price. This is just a warning not to depend on what an agent tells you.
  10. But the OBC makes it worthwhile to just hold shares. We’re hurt onlyif we sell.
  11. We did buy the drinks package on our recent Alaska voyage, and though we drink perhaps more than many others here (who knows? ), we’ve decided not to do it again. We may have “broken even,” but just. We never had any trouble getting served during dinner, and the sommelier always brought double pours. Whether he charged the account for one or two at a time was, we thought, his business. He was very accommodating and friendly. The main point is that we once or twice found ourselves going for a drink almost to just keep up. We did think we’d use the bottled water part of the package, but the mineralized water in heavy glass put us off that idea. Finally, the absence of a Godiva shop for hefty chocolate drinks on the QE made the package less attractive as well. bottom line: we won’t do it on our Barcelona-Barcelona on October.
  12. Thank you. I was looking just at the posted link.
  13. We are on Q229, Barcelona-Barcelona 10/3 to 10/10, and there is still no identification for gala themes. I would love to know in advance, and virtually everything else looks set. ??
  14. I’m glad it helped someone. We absolutely did have a good time, even though some days it felt as if we were almost alone, given guest levels of less than 50% after the drop-off in LA. If we ever get the gardens back in shape, I’ll write about that. We also brought home a drinks menu or three to share, should anyone need information.
  15. Hi. We recently returned from an Alaska Vancouver-Vancouver on QE. I hadn’t had an episode of needing inhalants for at least two years, but I’m fighting reactive asthma pretty hard in the week since we got home. I’m pretty sure it was triggered by the many sanitizing agents used on board…and those lovely but smelly lilies. So, this is just a warning for anyone who has reactive breathing trouble. You might be triggered on board.
  16. Hello. As we sit in Vancouver waiting to board QE tomorrow (yay!), we find my husband needs a good beard trim. We could go buy the trimmer we forgot to bring ($25 CAD),or he could enjoy barber services on board. Has anyone done this recently? At about what cost? also, we’re looking for a good, easy way to get from the airport Marriott to the cruise terminal. Yesterday was a grueling travel day, so I want easy. What’s best? thanks!
