  1. My thoughts.  My last cruise I had the premium package and there were no reservations available for my included 2nd specialty dining.  I doubt that will happen with the smaller venues but one never knows.  I'm cruising with my parents over the holidays.  They won't do a package but we do.   So, if I'm in their cabin and order room service for happy hour appetizers, will it be free if I order it or charge them because it's going to their room.  hmmm.

    Dear cruisers,

We just got of the fabulous Sky princess we did a 14 day baltic cruise, in one of the aft facing penthouses.

but once in the room we noticed a few things that should be there like:

-wine set up  (like reserve class mini suite) just mini bar set up.

-upgraded bathroom amenities, eye mask etc.

-room service menu in the room ( its all on TV now that resulted that we couldn't order what was on the menu that night).

-real flowers (now been replaced by fake ones).

-no proper wine glasses (just long drink glasses we could ask for it but I didn't bother us).

-upgraded turndown service? (just put the patter on the bed? or renew bedding everyday?).

don't understand me wrong, but this was we notice still had a fabulous time onboard.
still booked a suite for next year, but were thinking of mini suite reserve class for 2025 since 3000 pounds difference is makes suites on princess not a good value in our opinion.

but my main question was this just on this cruise or fleet wide?

To get the MDR menu, all you have to do is call room service.

For your first Celebrity cruise, perhaps no specialties as with the added gratuity I feel they are overpriced. The exception would be Sushi (or Raw) on 5. This is Japanese, not just sushi by any means. And priced ala carte, we can eat there for around $50 for both of us.  You can google the menu and see options and prices. Also, the hamburger and dog Mast Grill is open daily at no charge.

There's an added gratuity?  Wow. that seems excessive.  If you have the premium drink package, does that include the gratuities no matter where you drink and dine?

I'm sailing first time on Eclipse next month.  I was able to book (and pay for) specialty dining restaurants weeks ago.  If you purchase a dining package, you specifically CANNOT book before boarding the cruise.  Check out available reservations now, unless it's different on the Apex than on the Eclipse.

I did that this morning.  I'm not sure if I'll book individual reservations,  I'm finding Celebrity to be much more expensive than Princess. With our before and after cruise planned, I can't justify the extra expense when I hear the MDR's are quite good.

  5. I've been doing my best to keep up on this board but I'm still confused about some basic things. I'm doing the TA on the Apex in November.  I have a concierge class infinite veranda.  Obviously my first Celebrity cruise, I'm elite on Princess.

    1.  The only place to eat lunch after embarkation is at the buffet?  I am concierge class so I know there is a lunch but the hours seem severely limited so it may not be available due to boarding time? Are there food places around the pool besides the buffet that serves lunch/snacks?

    2.  Is there anyplace on board that serves food 24/7 similar to the International Cafe on Princess?

    3.  I have not bought a specialty dining package.  How hard is it to make a reservation once onboard?

    4.  Are any of the main dining rooms or specialty dining open for lunch on sea days?  Breakfast every day?

    5.  My only option when I booked was for late seating 8:30 but I often read of people saying just show up and you'll get seated.  True or false?

    6.  Since Celebrity now charges for room service (Boo), is it a decent menu if you want dinner in your cabin or on your balcony?

    7.  With all my questions about food, how is the fitness center?  Is it open 24/7?

    thank you so much!

We are booked on the sold out Solar Eclipse cruise next April. 12 days with an overnight in Cabo. One of our sons is booked with us along with his wife and our second youngest grandchild (she will be 6 when we sail). It will the the first time cruise for the three of them and I keep hoping things go well. We're booked on Discovery Princess which is a ship we are totally unfamiliar with as we've never been on it before. We've only cruised on a Royal class ship once (Royal Princess) and, personally, I much preferred the Grand class ships. As this is an unfamiliar ship and a sold out cruise I cringe thinking of things that might go wrong for their first cruise.

You'll be fine.  The Discovery crew has their act together.  The CB is a mess.

Has anyone been on a Prestige Casino Cruise through Princess?  Is it similar to the Ultimate VIP Cruise?

Is so much better with perks.  If you get an invite the perks will be listed.  My favorite was private car service to and from the ship.

  8. I said I would update after this cruise.  Unfortunately, it was not a great cruise.  Besides the aforementioned room service issues...I had the Premier package.  I was able to book one specialty dining but not the second.  Seems that they should work on this for shorter cruises.  I will never get this package again as I didn't use the majority of it...Though I did like the wines provided you didn't try to order them through room service.  They neglected to bring me the information about EZ Check where they take your luggage to the airport for you.  After a few words with guest services, it worked out but they lied when they said they didn't have my flight information.  He looked it up and it was there.

We had an engine issue that delayed our arrival into Roatan by 2.5 hours.  We had a shipwide black out which did not last long but took the A/C awhile to catch back up.  I was eating in the Crown Grill that that night and they couldn't cook for awhile.  They brought out what they could and I imagine it backed up reservations for a bit.  Food in the CG and Sabatinis was excellent.  International Cafe was good but where are the salads?  Food up on the Lido was good as usual, I did not use the Buffet.  Looked like Planks and the BBQ place have reopened.

Various people had issues with A/C.  One couple could not get their room below 80.  I was on Dolphin and it was fine. One woman had a pipe burst in her closet soaking everything.  They did her laundry for free and then switched her to a cabin with no AC.  They had moved the previous occupants for this reason.

The fitness center was really good.

The staff was great.  Lunch was slow in the MDR but dinner was good.  The Caribbean Princess needs a dry dock.  Broken tiles on the hot tubs, a place in the casino where it felt that the floor was going to give way, walking down the hallways where the wear and tear were really noticable.  I have a lot of good memories on this ship (8 cruises on her) but won't book her again until they dry dock her again.

As some of you are aware, we were assigned a stateroom in the far aft for our sailing aboard the Regal Princess at the end of October (after booking a guaranteed mid-ship), and there's nothing Princess is willing to do to fix that.  It's a bit early still, but I'm thinking ahead to when the time comes to possibly bid on an upgrade.

I've seen a few posters assure me that they actually prefer the aft staterooms, which is a relief to hear.  My question is... how about the *forward* rooms?  If we gamble and bid on an upgrade to a deluxe balcony or mini suite, my understanding is that they could end up placing us anywhere on the ship (forward, mid or aft).  Are the far forward staterooms a worse off position to be in than the far aft?  Or are they fairly comparable?

    Thanks for any insight!

I like both but movement doesn't bother us.

Room Service issues are not limited to this ship for sure. Last month we ordered room service for a late lunch. After 2 hours of  waiting, we went to Alfredos for pizza. While waiting for our pizza,  our room service items ordered 2+ hoursr earlier were delivered....to our table at Alfredos! The staff member handling delivery apologized, as he could see the order was placed almost 2.5 hrs earlier.  They sent us chocolate covered strawberries later that day along with an apology note.

I was in the Sapphire for 18 days in March/April.  It was the fastest that I've ever experienced.  There are a lot of kids on this cruise and I know that has an impact.

I do have to say the room service is terrible.  Last night I ordered a glass of wine. They called 45 minutes later to tell me they didn't have what I ordered.  Today I needed a snack.  I ordered a quesadilla. They called to tell me it would be an hour. I asked why,  wondering if they were short staffed or what is the issue. He apologized and said it would be right up.  We'll see.  Other than that everything is fine.

Update. I got my quesadilla. 5 minutes later another one showed up.  Later I went to dinner at Sabatinis which was excellent.  Hit up a bar after then went back to my room.  There was a third quesadilla on my desk.  I ordered a glass of wine,  they called me and said they didn't have it.  This was a different wine than the night before. I asked what they had and she said canyon road. I asked what they had that was included in the premier package,  she said none.  I asked them why did I pay more if they can't provide what I paid for? I canceled and contacted guest services who escalated to the room service manager. It's a small thing but it'll be interesting to see what happens.

  13. So far so good.  Sitting at a bar stool at Crooners by 10:58, bartenders and servers are great.  Lunch in the MDR  was the usual stuff and pretty quick. Had my luggage by 2. Met my steward,  got an ice bucket,  a welcome glass of champagne.  Got chocolates from the casino. Just a minute ago the hotel manager checked in at my door to make sure everything was good.  AC works, toilet flushes... just about time to go to the VIP cocktail party. Then I'll check out the elite lounge since I'll probably skip dinner. Ship is crowded but I expected that.

  14. I stopped in Canada a few times last year.  Prince Rupert, New Brunswick and Halifax.  For all of them, we just walked in without showing anything to anyone.  ArriveCan was still in effect for Prince Rupert so we just filled that out on the app but no need anymore.
