  1. Oh, pls put me on the list. I like a lot about SS, but fear they tend to roll up the side walks after the main production show. Love to be wrong.
  2. Total noob question: On the RSSC deck plans, some cabins have stars and some have dots. Some have both. For the life of me, I haven't found the legend as to what they mean. Can someone help me out? Thanks!
  3. Vince, This one written especially with you in mind. We had dinner last night at the reopened and reimagined Pineapple and Pearls. (Pre-pandemic, our favorite special event restaurant in the DMV.) Oh. My. Gosh. To die for x3, Why x3? Because there's three ways you think you're going to swoon: "Oh this food, oh the fun we're having, OH, this check!" Looks like we're enjoying Hamburger Helper for awhile. I have no regrets.
  4. As someone right at the tipping point of booking their first RSS cruise, this thread has been invaluable. My thanks, Mr Roller.
  5. Trivia time: Without searching on it, does this apparently anodyne quote mean anything to you? "The clock is operating."
  6. Fun fact: I'm still rocking an iPhone 6. At this point, I'm doing it mostly to spite the ghost of Steve Jobs.
  7. OK, this is waaay off-off topic, but now we're looking at Regent. When you're semi-budget cruisers like we are, this is not the fun "oh just try them all" buffet that some can indulge. I am reminded of an anecdote from my college days. A guy in one of my IT classes remarked "we need a course called three-to-five years experience," because every job listing asks for that. "Why yes, I have three to five years experience." In that same sense, I really wish my next five figure first cruise bet on another line was my second.
  8. Mother Nature gave us the tuber as partial reward for enduring the burdens of life (well, that and bourbon.) I celebrate this precious gift often and in quantity. (But not with the bourbon. Moderation in all things.)
  9. If you're going to lay it on this thick, you might as well tell us you demanded Trident open up to make you some fries.
  10. Yeah, it was kind of what we expected, but it was lunch which we don't much care about. Still, happy for the experience. At the other end of the spectrum, we've had dinner at Gaddi's at the Peninsula. Both the meal and the hotel stay are special memories. Fun fact: the hotel sent us off to the airport in a Roller, and we were wondering how the driver was going to get all our luggage in the trunk. He loaded the trunk up and then proceeded to bungee cord the lid to secure it, just like the taxi drivers we saw did. We also trudged down and saw them fire the Noon Day Gun (such tourists we were.) And OLoPP loved rides on the Star Ferry (basic class, of course.) And lots of other things. We did two fairly lengthy land vacations to HK, always thought we'd get back for a third. No longer. Breaks my heart at what has happened to it. Predictable, but sad still.
  11. The following is not a criticism of any sort, just a note of genuine puzzlement. Crystal appears to be recovering from a near death experience. It's still in ICU and will be there for a while. So why are so many people who never or rarely posted to this board when Crystal was a going concern posting to this board now? I mean, is it a "can't look away from the accident on the highway" sort of phenomenon? I'm sincerely curious. PS: A&K bring back the trash can doilies!
  12. Well, yesterday I would have said "You can't Always Get What You Want," but going forward it's "Start Me Up." But I agree, mellow Louie is best.
  13. Ok, I've tried to show restraint, but tell me this doesn't slap
  14. OK, time to stir the pot. In the 60s, there was an outpouring of musical creativity from the UK. It was inspired by US R&B which was evolving into R&R (think Muddy Waters to Little Richard.) This phenomenon was collectively known as the British Invasion. The three best bands it produced were: The Who The Kinks The Rolling Stones That's right, if your favorite band isn't on the list, it finished no better than fourth. Condolences.
  15. Getting back to the topic of premium, allow this potential SS cruiser a couple of questions, specific in our case to the Muse class, but maybe general across the classic fleet: Does every restaurant have a premium list? Do the lists vary between venues (eg, I assume La Muse would be more French intensive?) Are the various lists available at some central spot onboard to peruse before the evening and venue in question? Thanks much.
  16. Another landmark sinks (literally): Hong Kong’s landmark Jumbo floating restaurant sinks at sea (WaPo) Had lunch there years ago. Setting was memorable, food was not.
  17. I've found my personal complementary list: White Plonk Red Plonk White little better Red little better White pretty good Red pretty good Not a knock on any of them. I've especially had good luck with Plonk White.
  18. Not commenting on this thread, but overall on this board, there's recently been enough gas posted without substance to float the Hindenburg.
  19. Well, if it's not someone who can probably whip up a pretty good red sauce, I am without a clue. (I am usually without a clue.) Wait, I know, it's Edie!
  20. Huh. I had inferred from some of your comments that you went to that downtown school. Turns out I should have looked further up New Mexico Av.
  21. Keith, thought you might find this of interest (from today's WaPo:) George Washington University to stop using ‘Colonials’ name by 2023-24 In a statement, university officials said the use of the name has divided the community and can “no longer serve its purpose as a name that unifies.”
  22. You missed carbon paper and WhiteOut!
