  1. It is a Great Blue Heron, and the fact it is flying was lucky, getting the shot was not. So now we have the bird, where was it?
  2. Not an Osprey, this bird is much larger, and uses a much different fishing technique.
  3. Not east coast, Bonus points is you name the bird. I'm pretty lucky to get that shot, you rarely see them flying.
  4. I decided to go back on the thread and I think it is Glencoe Wood.
  5. I know it's in Scotland Lyndon but don't recall where. I'm sure someone else will get it soon.
  6. It had little to do with wanting to know where it was, or being unable to work it out. It had everything to do with you feeling it was some kind of competition, in which you were being clever. It's supposed to be fun and people ask questions and expect answers. I think people like clues when required and those can be a lot of fun. Not there and not that do nothing to further the game. Like I said, anyone can post a picture of some obscure place with no hope of being identified, and answer "not there" to all the questions. That doesn't help the game. And even though many people have used Google to identify something, they usually wait a while to get some clues.
  7. But if you are in a seat at a table in a busy restaurant and a person who is there to eat doesn't have a place to sit, that's wrong. Think of it as being in a small town of say 1400 to 2600 people and there are only 2 restaurants in the town and you want to have a meal (You can't cook at home); so you go to the cafeteria style restaurant, because you don't want to wait for your meal at the full service restaurant. Unfortunately after you get your meal and are standing there with a plate of food you realize the place is full and many of the tables are being used for playing cards, or board games or knitting club. Is that okay then?
  8. While the subject of the thread is MDR staffing levels, it would seem that those who purchased Club Orange to get "front of the line service" are finding that many people bought that service, and now the special line is pretty long.
  9. @Mary229 I think this latest post is mostly on the mark. What @Heidi13 was saying if you are the person being overtaken it is your responsibility to maintain course and speed. That being said the person being overtaken should be maintaining that course and speed some place other than the middle of the lane. I think that the use of "American Standard" in the opening post was what many Non Americans, who will be on ships not flying the Stars and Stripes, in places nowhere near the USA, found a little pretentious. Other than that one phrase I believe you have a valid point that most (including me) agree with.
  10. Pretty much everything about cruising is a "First world problem", no?
  11. Safe travels Mic & Rosie, be safe and remember camels spit 😉
  12. It's really not about those ON the deck at 0300 to 0400 hrs. It's about those UNDER the deck at that time.
  13. Excellent, is that before we get to Oz? I hope so you can tell us all about it.
  14. I'm guessing there us no cruise portion with that trip. 🤔
  15. I agree Mic, we thought we were doing good at $700.00 CAD Per day.
  16. So reading through this thread, it seems that it us "traditional" that on walks anti-clockwise on the promenade deck. With that established then it would be natural to keep right as that would put you you towards the outboard guard rail, as opposed to walking along the row of lounge chairs found on some promenade decks. This is not some "national standard" simply common sense. So I think we could all agree let's pick a direction and stick with that. For the joggers, it is the "Promenade" deck where one promenades not the running deck. If the ship has one that's somewhere else. Also all ships have extensive gyms with treadmills where you can run as far as you like and not run iver anyone. They even have a great forward facing view.
  17. They have those too 😉, even when they're going in the same diection.
  18. @Kristelle in the spirit of narrowing it down in the world. Are you in North America?
  19. Indeed I did. I could of course post a picture of some barn or train and post "it's somewhere in this great country of mine" it's really not much of a clue. Just like grouping 5 questions together and saying "it's in one of those". I seem to recall the last time I posted such a post out of frustration the game faded away for some time.
  20. Although Mic's tactic is unusual it is fair. Your response is not. Five separate questions deserve 5 proper answers is just to narrow the field. That's part of the game or do you just want to keep your ugly photo up longer? You also need to give clues or the game just stalls. Of course someone could just google the photo, which I suspect is how you "guessed" Lynn's wonderful picture of the tug in Saguenay. Somehow the spirit of this game has once again been lost. Post a picture, give time for response, answer responses, give clues.
  21. I spend quite a bit of time over on the HAL board and when you spend time somewhere you get a read on the frequent posters. I saw that @MicCanberra started a thread about the staffing levels in the MDR on their recent cruise. I could not believe some of the posts on that thread. Some people seem to AssUme that because someone isn't a regular on that board that they need to school them as to how it is in cruising. Mic you showed remarkable restraint. There was also another thread ranting about how people walking on the promenade should adopt the "American Standard" of walking on the right. Some of us took exception to that, most notably a retired ship's master with Years of sea time both on the bridge and as a passenger. So then the OP decided to quote Andy (yes I know the retired ship's master, we met for lunch last year when he was in Victoria), probably not a great plan. I did enjoy reading his response. One of many reasons I prefer the group on these boards. We have pretty much set the itinerary for "The Great Australian Meet & Greet Tour" We are so grateful for our CC friends who have invited us to visit and happy we will have the time to spend without having to get back to work. It is nice to think that this trip which we have been planning since 2019 will finally happen in less than a year.
