  1. Might be in pat because Gary started a new thread for 2024 and beyond: The Secrets of the Haven VIP Experience in 2024 and beyond
  2. Just contact NCL. Online forces both, but you can upgrade just one person. I always call my PCC and she sets the upgrade for just me, but you could probably also do it using the chat feature or call NCL's generic phone line. (This is just a guess, though.) Once onboard, my husband and I just share my unlimited package. The trick is that only one device is allowed on under a user's name.
  3. Looking at prices everything seemed up, but then part of that is that NCL is now including port and taxes in the price. So I figure that is adding a couple hundred bucks to everything. One thing I also noted is that there are a lot less 3 and 4 person in the room free or else $99, not that that would usually apply to us, but as my sister is in the Bay state, a cruise out of Boston including her could be a possibility some time. (If we ever do that, I just have to remember that my sister will be passenger 1 or 2 as served in the Air Force, so she gets that 10% off.)
  4. The one thing to consider is potential clouds. On the cruise back in 1999, as were south of Great Britain for the eclipse, there were lots of clouds, The then Norwegian-based company NCL paid for a helicopter to find where there was a break in the clouds. We didn't get to see the moon approach the sun, but the ship was directed to a place where there was a break in the clouds and we reached the break just as totality started.
  5. So, in 2026 there will be a total eclipse viewable off Spain. So far, NCL hasn't announced a cruise to see it (although Cunard and Princess already have). Hopefully NCL will offer such a cruise and it might be worth considering. Our very first cruise was on the Sky's maiden voyage in 1999 for the last total eclipse of the 20th century. We left from Dover for Normandy, caught the eclipse south of Great Britain, visited Ireland, Scotland, Norway and Amsterdam. NCL even had Buzz Aldrin on board. Total eclipses are totally amazing.
  6. This is something I hadn't seen before, 5% savings for teachers. Before effective retirement, I taught math for 3 years. (I now have a hobby job, as DH likes to call my 4-hours weekly of paid employment, at a national-brand fabric store where I always encourage teachers to take their 15% discount. I also encourage those who served or serve in the military to take their discounts as well.) So, here is the discounted cruise.
  7. So sorry for your loss. We lost ours back in October and I still miss her. She was the sweetest being. Sorry for hijacking the topic, but Goldens are such a joy.
  8. The new menus do not separate appetizer from soup and salad. Everything is listed as appetizer and you are entitled to2 .This is the text from NCL's specialty-dining-pakages/faq.
  9. Walter is adorable. May he live a long life. Goldens are the best.
  10. You may need 365 as there is always the option of being born in a leap year, like this one is,
  11. In fact, if have time, if you have multiple NCL excursions from the same port, the $50 will be applied for person 1 in the room. That happened to us when we landed up with 2 excursions in Junea instead of one long one.
  12. Gary, we did a cruise on the Jewel last month to Alaska. If I recall you prefer the bigger ships. We chose the Jewel because she had more time in port. Also, I wanted to see Butchart Gardens in Victoria. You only have 4 hours in Victoria on the Encore and it is at night. By flying in 2 nights early we were able to visit Victoria during the day. As the Jewel does not have a Haven restaurant, we went with an aft suite and saved a little while still having access to the concierge, butler and the exact same breakfast and lunches as Haven passengers. We didn't have the Haven courtyard, but we added the Thermal Spa which I wasn't thrilled with as the common area for men and women is small. Getting to see both Hubbard and Glacier Bays was very special. As the Jewel is a one-way cruise in Alaska, you do land up with potentially needing two one-way trips to get home unless you opt for a B2B.
  13. For whatever reason*, my husband has 3 less points than I. We have only cruised together and he didn't jump overboard and miss 3 days. The result - he became platinum one cruise after me because of the missing 3 points. I think it was a mix up with our very first cruise as NCL did a big update years ago, now and they'd missed that first cruise. Either I got 3 extra days or he was shorted. Ah well, it is what it is.
  14. And up go the bad cholesterol numbers. Do the olives counter the effect of the cheese?
  15. The thermal spa is my preference. As I only have two skin tones - white with freckles and red, I don't need to be in the sun.
  16. Congrats on becoming ambassador.
  17. Thanks for the quick response and bon voyage. For a second there I thought you were offering me a salutation when I read "HI". That's the category we will be having so it is looking good for us. I chose the squarer HI over the HJ. You get more square feet, for less money (at least right now on the PC cruise we are taking, I keep checking for changes in price - so far they are staying steady.) Have a great time and I am looking forward to reading your thoughts and seeing yor pictures. Thanks again. GAL PS We were in SE Ohio in May for the eclipse as the BIL lives outside Dayton. The sun and moon put on a good show that day and the weather cooperated.
  18. Which H? cabin type are you in? I'm nosy as we've booked HI for an upcoming Panama Canal cruise. Thanks, I am really looking forward to hearing how your cruise goes. TIA, GAL
  19. Anything $15 and below is covered. If ghe drink is over $15, then you pay the difference plus 20% for tip. So, if a drink were to be $16, it would be 1.2*(16-15) or $1.20.
  20. Obviously not a quilter or someone who sews. For those of us who do, an iron is a necessity. Now for finished clothing items that's a different story. I hang up most stuff coming out of the washer and air dry (environmentally friendly and except for linen things, no ironing needed).
