  1. When I've upgraded like this, I've always been able to select my exact balcony room.
  2. I was looking for facts and data. Not guidance on committing fraud. I just don't swing that way....
  3. This is the gray zone. I bought the right to sail on a certain itinerary, so money was exchanged and taxes are owed. The fact that I don't sail might not mean I'm entitled to my taxes back, especially if NCL keeps the money. IIRC, sales taxes are considered a "transaction tax," so if the cash transaction is not reversed, the taxes may still be owed. Also, I've read that the port fees per person are some type of proration over all expected passengers of port fees owed for the ship to dock. I a person fails to sail, the ship may still owe the same port fees.
  4. Thanks. This is why I asked the question the way I did. I would like to hear from somebody who has actually done this recently, not just what some NCL rep or TA tells somebody.
  5. Isn't there a huge variation amongst OV rooms on different ships/decks? I've never stayed in an ocean view, but I've seem some with fantastic forward facing picture windows and I've seen some with a port hole looking at the side of a lifeboat. Could that be the reason for the large difference in this case?
  6. We may have a chance to upgrade from a regular balcony to an aft balcony on an upcoming Joy sailing. I have searched and googled and can't find a good source for information regarding balcony size differences. I might pay the difference to get a larger balcony with lounge chairs. If it's basically the same size as what we have, I'll pass (unless it is really cheap). The aft balconies that are still available are all the smaller room configurations (i.e. none of those huge corner rooms). NCL's website provides no useful information. Thanks.
  7. You may also wish to consider a different TA (or none at all).
  8. Thanks. I need to clarify that I'm referring to a cancellation after final payment due date.
  9. Yep. My next cruise dropped $300 per person in the days leading up to final payment. 😎 Of course, now it's dropped another $450 per person which I can't get back. 😑 The next two upgrades are now cheaper than the balcony I booked, so now I'm watching aft balcony prices. They're currently about $100 more per person than my current booking.
  10. Has anybody recently cancelled a NCL cruise without reason (i.e. let's just say plans change, nothing health/Covid related, etc.). Assume no insurance. Has NCL refunded your taxes and port fees? Thanks.
  11. That would likely just add confusion to the fun. New folks would now enter a thread titled "what size insulated beverage container should I bring?" only to be totally confused by the thread content to this point.
  12. I've seen this movie. It didn't end well.... 🀣
  13. Thanks. Those cabins are generally above my pay grade, but it's good info for others. πŸ˜ŽπŸ€
  14. Yes. They are both based upon the date your cruise sails.
  15. πŸ™‚It looks like you already got your answer. I was working. πŸ€₯ Ok, I can't back that up. I may have been napping. 😴
  16. They washed my boxers in May! Just remember to pack some kitchen garbage bags to line the flimsy paper NCL bags so that you can pack, pack, pack.
  17. NCL's website indicates that, for Platinum tier, "Laundry Service (per member) - 1 free bag." DW and I are both Platinum and received one bag from our room attendant stamped "Latitudes" on our recent cruise. I asked him if it was one per person, and he said no (but asked that we let him know if we were informed otherwise.) Have any of you who are a couple with Platinum status received two free bags? Thanks.
  18. I've put two balcony reservations on hold on a Joy sailing (rooms 15226 and 15228) and both invoices indicate in bold red print "This cabin has an enclosed balcony". Both are Port aft. I thought that only the forward balconies were enclosed. Is this an error? Thanks.
