  1. Like anything in life a cruise holiday is what you make of it and everybody has there own things that they enjoy or do not enjoy and many will tell you on here those things about every cruise line. If it's an incredible deal then that may be enough reason alone to go for it and try it out.
  2. Puerto Rico is an exception and the transportation of passengers on a ship that embarks from there to another US port is allowed.
  3. Yes just like when the HAL ships became too big to navigate into Hamilton, Bermuda, I'm afraid the the days of docking in Montreal are now numbered too.
  4. Shhhh! 😊 That is one of the implications nobody wants to think about.
  5. That's why I am not designing Hal's future cruise schedule.😊 I'm just trying to figure out what it might be and hoping that they still keep an active presence at the Boston seaport.
  6. Correct, unless Hamilton, Bermuda is thrown into that 6 day cruise. Or a stop in Hamilton is planned on the Fort Lauderdale to Montreal cruise which could put the Volendam in Montreal on Saturday May 4th.
  7. Yes looking at the dates it appears something will change here in New England in 2024. The usual voyage for the New England/Canada smaller ship coming up here in mid to late April has been an 11 day Fort Lauderdale to Montreal cruise, and then starting 7 day runs between Montreal and Boston for the summer every Saturday. The larger ships are doing the Voyage of the Vikings cruise, with the Nieuw Statendam doing it in '23 and Zuiderdam in '24. The Volendam docks in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday April 21, 2024 so the 11 day run would put it into Montreal on Thursday May 2 which doesn't work. Of course they could do a 6 day run to Boston and start the weekly cruises instead from there. Then again the long run of years that HAL has done this route may have finally run its course. Which also makes the question of what happens with the Volendam more interesting.
  8. I still remember being on a ship during the big New York City blackout in August of 2003 and hearing rumors about what was going on. The next day and subsequent days paper copies of the Times answered a lot of our questions about what had happened.
  9. Well you are not the only one on here that is voicing those thoughts. With the massive growth of the cruise industry and then the potential for collapse of parts of it because of Covid and other factors lines like HAL and some others are in the middle of a three way tug of war between former, current, and future passengers and don't know which way to turn. Just reading the posts on here you will find the complete spectrum from those who will never sail with them again to those who are interested in sailing with them for the first time. In between are the disgruntled ones, the one more try ones, the I can live or not live with the changes ones, the I'll never sail with anyone else ones, and the new ones who sailed with them once and may again. This is just the place where we all get together choose a side and pull or get pulled.
  10. But hey at least HAL kept the bacon flowing daily when the mother company restricted its usage on its ships on certain days in 2021.
  11. Right that was just a generic(not logged in)search to explain how it is done. When logged in you may have to mine out the deals offered.
  12. Yes the Ultimate cruise scene(or not!). Smoking cigars in your cabana while eating eggs benedict heated under lamps, and previously frozen(not Maine)lobster tails, and washing it down with Pepsi(not Coke)products while blasting your boom box to drown out the band playing by the pool. Then throwing on a muscle shirt and jeans before heading to the main dining room and ordering 3 entrees, and joining the Baked Alaska parade. Getting bored while sitting in the main theater waiting for the stage show to(not)begin, so instead heading to the library to nap in a lounger for a bit before going down to the chocolate buffet. Returning to the room carefully while navigating through the food trays left outside cabins to find a towel animal, two chocolates, and the paper schedule for tomorrow on your bed. Awakening on debarkation day to find out that your OBC ran out 4 days ago, your flight home has been cancelled, your not getting your tiles, and your Covid test was positive!
  13. Most media outlets (national, local, and social) are overrun right now with Southwest Airline stories. This would unlikely get noticed anyways.
  14. The OP told us exactly what could be happening next a week ago. I just hope corporate is lawyering up in anticipation, or is the thought from the PR department that any publicity is good publicity?
  15. Yes on the top right hand side of the listings you can filter by low to high price, or high to low price. The current lowest fare is a $69 1 day Pacific Coastal and the highest is the 128 day Grand World Voyage at $23,599.
  16. There are reasons why most of the best, most expensive, and most of the higher quality restaurants in the world do not feature lobster dishes on their menus, and it is not because of pricing. If keeping the masses happy means serving basic lobster tails then go for it CCL and RCCL. But I am certainly not basing my cruise decisions on one item that I can't get on the menu.
  17. No you really are not in the minority. HAL continues to provide great service by its crew and superior dining compared to many other lines. But the overall perception of it has been lessened by changes in other areas that have occurred over recent years. So the veteran HAL cruisers have been disappointed with many of these changes and expressed it here and elsewhere which adds to the perception vs. reality issues which corporate seems to ignore.
  18. I think in all cases the parent companies like CCL, RCCL, and NCL have to invest in keeping their newest shiniest monster ships full with happy people people no matter what. That has left some of the what used to be considered quality and somewhat upscale lines that they own out to flounder.
  19. Yes it is becoming harder for people to claim that HAL is being Carnivalized by CCL when some of the things that you liked and expected from them are still being offered on those CCL ships but not on the HAL ships themselves.
  20. Sorry, forgot the .com. https://profcruise.com/carnival-7-day-dinner-menus/
  21. Well your right they have the $ to survive but just like some of our favorite cruise lines will they just end up sitting on the bench as backups in the world of travel.
  22. https://profcruise/carnival-7-day-dinner-menus/ Point taken. I was on a cruise in early May with them on the Legend and don't remember the offer even on either 'Cruise Elegant Night'. But then after the two years of Covid I guess we were all admiring how elegant we could all still look.😊 Seriously, here is the link to the latest (Nov. '22) menus for CCL which now features lobster tails on the 2nd elegant night or 6th night of their 7 day cruise.
  23. Between disgruntled passengers and employees, terrible media publicity and future government investigations, and not to mention lonely luggage abandoned in strange airports, I don't see how SWA will survive all this turbulence!
  24. Right idea VTcruisenut. To me if you crave lobster on a cruise I suggest that you book one of Hal's 7 (or 14 b/b) night cruises that visits ports in Maine, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island and spend your $ on authentic versions of lobster meals off ship from the best sources.
