  1. Just be happy the casinos close during the middle of the night on ships or you might be like Albert Brooks finding out his wife Julie Hagerty has blown their 'Nest Egg' on the number 22: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZumS81KSw8
  2. https://movietvtechgeeks.com/beat-casino-lived-movies/ We all need Raymond Babbit to cruise with us.🙂
  3. Too late I let the cat out of the bag.😀 Just reminding the solo cruisers out there that there are some nice cabins for them on the higher decks that are available too.
  4. What you should find most disturbing about this whether it be HAL, NCL, or any other cruise line is why are they running carnival side show type games when they have so much more they could offer to travelers. What's next the ring toss or knock down the milk bottles games set up by the pool deck?
  5. https://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/deckplans/deckbydeck.php?ship=Eurodam&deck=10 Your right. The Eurodam has two larger 'inside' rooms with a window(10043 and 10044)on the Panorama Deck(10)that are category IQ and called Interior Spa suites. This page with the deck plan has two camera icons that you can click on to see photos showing the walkway with the windows of these two unique cabins and there is another icon for room 10043 with cabin interior pics.
  6. https://halfacts.com/vista-class/10024-zuiderdam/ There are a couple of K class 'inside' cabins (10021 & 10024) with windows on the Observation Deck(10) of the Oosterdam, Westerdam, and Zuiderdam that a lot of people don't know about. They are sold as insides and are small but they do have a window that looks out to the barely used walkway behind the retractable roof. You won't see the ocean but you will see the sky, the stars, and maybe the sun and the moon. There location is excellent though as they are just steps away from the Observation Deck and Crows Nest and seem perfect for a solo cruiser.
  7. https://parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/ns/grandpre/activ/paysage-landscape May I suggest that you head Northeast to the Wolfville area and to the Grand Pre UNESCO World Heritage site which is around a one hour drive from Halifax across the countryside. Of course it is wine country so make sure your driver stays dry.🙂
  8. In fact I just cross checked an verified an offer listed on there with the HAL site and right now there are at least three single OV rooms on the main deck available on the Rotterdam with 0% SS on the 7 day out of FLL on 12/15/23 that with port charges and tips comes to under 1K!! Now it is a close to the holiday cruise and you will be hanging out down by the anchor so it might be a little noisy at times.😀
  9. You are correct and that is the case with nearly every cruise line. But even HAL has occasional offerings of greatly reduced single supplement rates. If you go to google and type in the word cruise and then the word that describes a purple fruit that the brits love to make a holiday pudding with it will take you to a site that list hundreds of such offerings by many cruise lines. Sorry but CC policy is the reason why my post might seem like a game of charades.🙂 Rob
  10. In 2014 a close friend of my wife's for many years passed away. We had some good times together with her and her husband over the years but they never cruised because of her health issues. When her now widowed husband found out in 2015 that we were going to Bermuda on the Veendam that summer he told us that he had always wanted to go on a cruise so we helped get him booked on our cruise in his own room. He joined us in the MDR nightly and on our balcony a couple of times and told us of his experiences and the new friends he had met. I still remember after debarkation walking on the dock and people yelling down from the ship wishing him well and how this relatively quiet guy was now beaming after the new world he had discovered.
  11. Well the pinned thread 'How are things where YOU live?' started out as a discussion about the Coronavirus virus nearly three years ago on here but in the last year it has morphed into a place where people are posting pics and discussing the weather in their area. In fact there were posts suggesting that it be unpinned nearly a year ago! I think a pinned thread for people who are HAL solo cruisers might garner more support if one was added.
  12. Yes I guess this would at least allow the convo here to continue and be added to. The solo cruise category in the specialty forums does cover some similar issues that the solo by choice, married but solo(the Shirley or Sid Valentine🙂), divorced or separated, and widow/widower may have in common and is open to everyone. But, maybe an area where HAL cruisers more specifically can discuss this topic especially as HAL has always had and seems to have increasing numbers now of solo passengers for whatever reason.
  13. I agree and as I said in an earlier post its an area that maybe needs a little space in here. The explosion of the internet in the early 2000's resulted in somewhat niche sites like CC to become increasingly popular. Many of those who contributed to it then and continue to now are veterans cruisers of all lines and many over the last couple of decades have found themselves now cruising solo because of the passing of spouses and partners. There are unique things about their experiences that can be helpful if shared amongst each other as you have seen here.
  14. Well it was in December but one before the actual holidays which were spent with family. Your own families are helpful to be around especially around the holidays but they can also intentionally or unintentionally bring up memories that you may not be prepared to deal with.
  15. Thanks vswan for your post as it touches an area that I think needs more attention within CC. There are forums for 55+, single, and solo cruisers on CC but after reading so many posts in those forums from people who are widowed either for years or recently I feel that maybe that area of the CC world needs its own category too. Whether your a widow/widower at 45, 65, or 85 you have things in common with others who are also and many of those things are different than true single people, married but cruising solo, divorcees or separated people. For some it means learning to live alone again for the first time in 25, 45 and even 65 years. As for myself I know that feeling of excitement in planning that next cruise with your partner. I still remember in February of 2016 being with my wife who was in a cardiac intensive care unit after she had coded three times in 8 days and was having an ICD implanted of us talking about and researching our next cruise. She survived all that and few more things along the way before passing in late February of 2020 on the eve of the world changing event for everyone. Sadly that next cruise together never came about(we had to cancel one in the summer of 2019 for health reasons)partly too because with her being a teacher we were limited to certain weeks or months during the year. Covid put a crimp in any thoughts I had of floating again in a new ocean of life throughout the rest of 2020 and into 2021, but I eventually booked a holiday cruise on HAL for December of 2021. I also took a one week casino balcony offer cruise out of Baltimore with CCL in May of 2022 and now I have some booked with HAL and CCL this year, and looking at 2024. There will always be moments that will bring back the memories but it sounds like it will be for you as it has been for me always good ones...Rob
  16. Putting in restaurant jargon the miscommunications that seems to be happening within HAL and then as a result in this forum, the back of the house in Seattle and the front of the house on the oceans are using different menus at times.🤔
  17. So far my take away from this thread is...don't book an inside room if your looking to get 'born again'.🙂
  18. If you have survived rides on the Boston subway system and haven't suffered much motion sickness you'll be fine on the water but take some pills with you anyways just in case.
  19. Just watch some of those "resident" video clips of cruise bloggers mixed in with performers and ask yourself are these the types of people I would want to spend the next six months of my life with?🤔
  20. What's most insulting is that this thread continues despite the fact that the OP left it two days ago after people pointed out some mis-leading things about her posts now and also when comparing them to other peoples posts about the incident when it originally happened 4 months ago. We have no idea accept from her as to what exactly was offered to these passengers from HAL above and beyond the effort made to get them back onboard. She was currently more disgruntled with the offer the insurance company made on her claim about it. And as for those who think that "cheerleaders" abound in here well to what purpose? As far as I know unlike certain social media sites there is no benefit either way when posting positive or negative comments in this forum or any of them about billion dollar cruise lines.
  21. Of course not! First off forget the $300,000 up front and the $300,000 additional they would have had to pay the PC authorities for a new transit time slot. They also would have had to pay additional port fees to stay overnight and have to deal with the wrath of the nearly 2,000 other passengers who would now have their future cruise plans disrupted. Now how do you get these 40 pax back to the ship safely when the area they were in has impassable roads, still having serious weather conditions and it is now dark out. The local authorities are dealing with the locals and helping them who have damaged homes and businesses and injuries. Was HAL supposed to contact the Costa Rican military and arrange and pay for non-emergency helicopter flights back to the ship? What's most ironic about this whole thread is that the OP just came off a b/b cruise with Celebrity and in their forum was complaining about Celebrity making them wait for an hour and a half during the switchover boarding process and described that as "Epic fail Celebrity". Go figure...
  22. Thank you for deciding that "I'm done replying to this post". Obviously the trip wire for the OP to bring it all up again was the insurance companies response to their claim on this incident. A number of the things said now(4 months later)by the poster did not agree with what was said in first hand accounts at the time and by other posters in this current thread. Also the original thread talks of the Captain publicly announcing onboard that HAL was working with the PC people on a possible pick up of the stranded pax in the zone area. After negotiating with the Panamanian government for the Zaandam and Rotterdam to cross thru the PC during the infamous Covid cruise from March of 2020, I'm sure that HAL could/would have did that if the timing would have worked out.
  23. I can see it now people hiding their unwanted tiles around the ships like the cruise rubber ducks.🙂
  24. Well I took that Legend cruise last May only because I was offered a "free" balcony on a casino deal. The casino was so crowded I just collected the $50 they offered for the casino as part of the deal and spent it elsewhere.
  25. You would think that CCL would leave a multi-language copy of the Bartenders Bible around so they would at least have a clue.🙂
