  1. One of the hardest things for me is getting a good night's sleep the night before a cruise, but it sure makes the first day of the cruise better. Sleep well.

  4. You may well be correct, but I think betting on interest rates going down other than for very short term moves is a bad bet. Interest rates fell for thirty years and are now, except for short term fed induced rates, at levels that are a historical aberration. Most investors today have only lived during this Goldilocks period and don't recognize how unusual it is.
  5. I believe their last dividend was declared in January of 2020, ex-dividend February 2020 and paid March 2020. Pandemics tend to have that effect.

  7. Yes; same here. But it is even more strange. Some time back I had saved the pdf files from the download for the boarding passes, luggage tags and general information. Our boarding passes have changed. There is now this in the upper left corner, unlike the copy from weeks back: I figure they added that to help the terminal check in folks recognize priority. Our luggage tags have also changed from a few weeks back. Previously they had a green background in the deck and room number area (I think to designate the area of the ship) but that is now red. And, as has been noted, the general information page that used to give itinerary, billing and OBC information is now just useless BS.
  8. I have noticed that also. Carnival, due to the volume they are cooking, don't fry bacon, they broil it. Now broiling can produce nice bacon but Carnival does not appear to even try to do it right. Rather than laying it out, broiling, then turning it over and finishing the broil, they apparently just grab handfuls and throw them on a sheet and broil till done. Some individual slices come out but stuck together slices, balls of slices and all kinds of entangled slices are quite common. It is a true waste as those balls of bacon hold pools of fat and are not fit for consumption. That is why one of my favorite parts of a cruise is stopping at Waffle House on the way home to have my first real breakfast in a week. It feels so good after a week without breakfast.
  9. I agree with it being hard to miss. I find your second paragraph quite thought provoking. On the one hand I don't feel threatened by pot heads (or whatever the current term is). It is not like they are going to assault or rob you to get a fix unless robbing people is just how they get money to live. I would just tell my kids, if they noticed and asked, that some people smoke it like some people drink and for the same reasons but it is illegal so not the smart way to go. On the other hand there is the problem of these folks breaking the law. Once someone announces they are willing to break laws you don't have any way of knowing just which laws or social conventions they are willing to break. Will they kill you as you sleep on a lounger because you snore? Will they trip you as you walk by just for a laugh? That uncertainty creates uncomfortable worry. By being so inconsiderate as to cause that worry these folks are at best jerks. So I am not open to any illegal drug use outside one's own residence.
  10. Well, having gone through kilos back in my 70s college days I find it very hard not to smell and recognize it when it is around without looking to smell in the least. I kind of like the nostalgia. 😇

  16. I don't know if it is just us, but for a while now when we book a cruise we no longer get the confirmation email. The cruise shows up on the Carnival site though. So, if you don't get the confirmation email go to the web site and copy down the booking number. You may need it later if their site wipes your bookings and you have to reenter them.

  18. I'm a bit tired of folks accusing others of punishing crew by adjusting tips. Somehow they seem to think the customer is the employer of the crew. It is not the job of the passenger to compensate the crew. That is the job of their employer. If the crew is being underpaid that is solely the fault of the employer. If it makes you feel worthwhile for once in your life to take on the task of ensuring adequate pay for crew, without the benefit of knowing their pay structure or amounts, then that is your problem Don't expect normal people to just blindly throw money at a situation when they don't have access to the facts of the situation. If, as has been stated, stateroom attendants are now providing half the service to twice the cabins then, if they were still receiving the same amount per room they would be getting twice the "gratuities" they previously received for the same amount of work. That would not appear to be justification for increasing the gratuities. If they are not receiving the same amount per cabin then that is on the employer and part of the unknown to us process of compensating the employees. From the passenger point of view, all that is known is that service has gone down but the suggested gratuity has gone up. Anyone who resists that is not punishing anyone. History says certain people will now say how cheap I am. The simple fact is we prepay gratuities and we don't care about the gratuities. We just pay them as part of the cost of the cruise. As far as we are concerned they are not gratuities, just part of the bill they have split off as a separate item so they can advertise lower cruise rates. If we come to dislike the total cost including suggested gratuities then we just won't buy. But the guilt trip guys should be recognized as trying to feel superior by putting others down.
  19. You will find that longer cruises generally have more civilized passengers with the shorter cruises tending to booze cruises. We sail on Glory regularly and we have been impressed with the work they put into maintaining the ship since its wet dock in early 2022 (where they refreshed most all the public areas). When the Dream was in New Orleans we sailed it regularly and Carnival did not maintain it at all so we find their care of the Glory a pleasant surprise. The Valor has a higher rate of stupid. More folks fall overboard or start fights than on Glory (we cruise Glory once a month September through March or April and have never seen or heard of a fight or overboard on one of our cruises).
  20. When we first started cruising on Carnival we booked suites. After a few of those we switched to balcony rooms mainly because we got tired of hitting our shins on those tubs. We found we could comfortably fit in the balcony rooms and have stayed with them since. As for preference. I prefer showers but my wife likes a long soak in a tub. But she had no use for those Jacuzzi-style bathtubs because they are too small for a long, comfortable, relaxing soak. Perhaps worst of all is the jets are too high to blow bubbles up your...
