  1. We used Eidfjord Autorent. The car was about $250 for the day, all inclusive—less than the cost of the cruise excursions . We spent at least an hour wondering the falls with no need to rush. Then we drove up to the steppes area and over to the Hardanger Bridge. Ilyana provided a great map and recommendations.
  2. We were in 4059 on Viking Homelands. There were no tenders and the room was quiet. The only downside was the chairs were facing the rear of the ship.
  3. I found the list with a search, thanks for letting me know it existed.
  4. Yes, the bed orientation was the same as the chairs. As a first time cruiser, it was not something I would have even know to ask about.
  5. Cabin 4059 has the bump out (pilaster) if someone is compiling a list. Is there a list for cabins whose chairs face the front of the ship? 4059 chairs face the back. It wasn’t a huge issue, but I would prefer facing forward on future cruises.
  6. Azulann or DGHOC—do you know anyone who did the Getabergen nature hike on Mariehamn? I have searched for reviews without luck. Thank you for any information. I am enjoying the trip report. We sail July 4!
  7. After I got the first message, I tried again and then got a message that I didn’t have a booking. I did the online chat and had to re-enter my booking number. Everything was back to normal after that.
  8. I had the same message Clay.
  9. I believe it is 12 noon Pacific time in the United States. At least that was our opening time. So for us it was 2 pm central time in the US. Good luck. We did not have any issues getting the excursions we wanted.
  10. Search on the cruise name—often someone has shared pricing and excursions from an earlier cruise. Just keep in mind that excursions and prices can change. The excursions with prices for our July homelands cruise were posted about 100 days out. I had plenty of time to plan as I couldn’t book until 67 days out.
  11. Try the chat feature on My Viking Journey. If you are in a DV room, I believe that you are guaranteed a reservation. They should be able to help.
  12. That would make me happy! I like her music.
  13. We are doing the Homelands Stockholm to Bergen this summer with the 3 day Iceland extension. I can give you feedback in late July. It really is only 2 to 2 and 1/2 days days as our flight from Bergen doesn’t arrive until 5 pm on day 1.
  14. How long do the queues get in the summer months? We will do this on our own, but don’t want to have to book ahead of time.
  15. What about playing cards? Are they available to use?
  16. We are also doing our first cruise with Viking (and first cruise ever) this summer—Homelands. We have traveled a decent amount and are relatively young and relatively fit. CcWinelover’s advice is excellent. We have planned a mix of the included excursions, a couple paid Viking excursions, and two independent days as well. I researched the ports on here and Trip Advisor for ideas of what we wanted to see and do. When the Viking included tour covered some or most of that, we planned the included tour. When it didn’t or was more expensive that arranging it myself, I did it myself. For example, in Stavanger the Pulpit Rock Cruise is $200 plus per person through Viking, but I booked ours through Rodne for $140 total. I have enjoyed doing the planning.
  17. If you cannot get the included excursion, there is a small car rental place in Eidfjord. It is approximately $250 for a car for the day. That includes gas and insurance. Here is the email. booking@eidfjordautorent.no It is off-season, so you may not get an answer immediately. You can pick the car up early and drive to Flam (about 2 hours one way) to do a round trip on the train--Flam to Myrdal to Flam. We have decided against doing the train. We will go to the Voringfloss waterfall to hike.
  18. Looking for information on this cruise stop. I searched both this board and the ports board and didn’t find anything. I would especially like to hear from someone who has done the Getabergen Nature Hike. Thank you.
  19. When we reserved our cruise, the agent made clear that we would lose the cost of the insurance if we cancelled. That cost was non-refundable. I would have to look up the cruise portion cancellation terms. Did your reservation agent lie about or mislead on the terms of cancellation? Ours did not. We knew if we cancelled, we would be out a decent amount of money.
  20. booking@eidfjordautorent.no I heard back from a car rental place in Eidfjord. It is off season, so they aren’t officially open, but one of the workers replied. Cars there are NOK 2500 (about $250) for the day. That is all inclusive(insurance, gas, and second driver). You don’t need to refill it before returning. She did mention that they don’t have a lot of cars. You can cancel ahead with out a penalty and if you can’t dock because of weather, they will refund your money. We are going to reserve a car in case we can’t get the Flam excursion.
  21. Thank you so much Loriva! I really appreciate your effort.
  22. Thank you for this update. It helps. Can you share the pdf for the excursions? I realize they may change for mine, but an updated list would be nice. Thank you
  23. We are doing the Homelands cruise this summer. I have looked at the potential excursions and Sailor Paul included a pdf of a past cruise which was a huge help in planning, but I would like to know which ones will be offered in 2023. Does anyone know how far in advance the excursions are posted? Thanks for your insight.
  24. Our cruise starts July 4 in Stockholm. We may just do the included tour in Eidfjord and use this as a rest/recovery day. If I find out anything, I will also post here.
