  1. Just some random thoughts on our cruise so far.

    Day 1

Embarkation went very smoothly. We spent the night in Houston, at the Fairfield Inn near Hobby. Car service dropped us off shortly after 10 am. Only moderate traffic. Checked in, and seated upstairs by 10:40. Would've been sooner, but the 2 noobies in the group took longer than the rest of us (not sure why) and the women wanted a group picture. So we waited.

Staff seated us with our Emerald friends, and we could have boarded with that group, but the womenfolk thought that was cheating, so we waited 10 minutes and boarded when Platinum (our status) was called. Not sure why that would've been cheating, but the noobies boarding as Platinum wasn't, but I'm a "happy wife, happy life" kind of guy, and don't question such things.

We beat the crowd to the Windjammer, and had a nice leisurely lunch. Once we noticed people waiting for tables, we left to explore the ship. Rooms were available promptly at 1 pm. Balcony, deck 7, forward on the hump. Awesome view. Spotted a pair of dolphins almost immediately. Steward is Rubin. He's quiet, but very friendly.

Our 5th cruise, and the first time we've mustered out on deck. Previously, we've mustered in lounges or theaters. Interesting experience. Fortunately the weather was pleasant, and we were on the shaded side of the ship. Nice meeting the other people in our station. Our friends with cabin on deck 10 were mustered just one station over. Small world. The dolphins continued to make an appearance.

We remained on deck for sail-away. The dolphins followed us for awhile, even after we moved starboard. (Only assuming they were the same pair.) We stayed on deck until out of Galveston, then moved to our balcony. Luggage had arrived while we were gone. This sail-away was so different from our last sail-away, from Bayonne on the Anthem. Dozens of cargo ships (tankers) everywhere! And the drilling platforms, of course.

We remained on deck until time to get ready for dinner, which included unpacking. That's when I discovered an envelope of money missing. The last place I remembered for certain seeing it, was that morning in the hotel. It was only a portion of the cash we brought, mostly ones and fives for tipping, but still put a damper on my mood. I knew there was a reason I always divided the cash up, otherwise it could've hurt a lot more.

Dinner this night was the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater, which we'd signed up for at lunch. Started off at 6:15, on deck 5, in the Star Lounge. Eventually moved upstairs, to Giovanni's Table. Very entertaining, and great food. Well worth the $65 per person. Very comparable in price to our dinner theater back home, in Louisville. Took about 3 hours total, so we missed the Welcome Aboard show, but that was ok with us. By the time it was over, we were ready to head back to our room.

Thus ended a very long day.

It is now Day 5 of your cruise, can you report if the beer pub is selling the 10 punch drink card. They will have a signs up at the bar if it is. This is were I bought mine in July.

    Thanks!!

  2. We have family that live in Freeport. The govt has told them to expect 3-4 months before the power can be restored. The pictures we have show massive damage. Hotels look like a bomb went off, house gone. They had 12 hours of intense wind. Most people that can are leaving the island for an extended time.

Our family person is going to stay in the England until after the holidays.

Please let us know if on Day 5 the 10 Drink punch cards are for sale in the Beer Pub.

  4. You have a sheet in your stateroom that has little coupons on it, one was for the reception. The hostess asked what you were there for also. If you said Diamond club she directed them to the Diamond club. I gave her my coupon, but she didn't ask.

Thanks for the info. Did you happen to notice if they were still offering the 10 drink card in the middle of the week?

  5. For the welcome reception did you have to present anything to prove you belong there. Also how long did the free drinks flow? We are diamond member and the Diamond club is up there also and I could see Diamond people crowding in before their free happy hour starts. I'm on the Thanksgiving cruise so it is usually packed with Diamond members.

  6. It was a first for me, seeing it at $10 especially for craps. Table never really got busy all week and they never lowered. I asked just to have some new rollers who would not play at $10. The casino manager came out to talk to me and told me this was intentional so to keep away the field party bettors. And so the real players would not have a crowded table. I did disagree because sometimes you need some fresh rollers to get off the bad mojo. The whole week there was only about 7 constants including me and it was very profitable, but the excitement was not there like normal. As for 3 card only your ante has to be $10 you can do a $5 pair plus.

  7. Still the same $12 limit Premium and Ultimate had.

Gratuity is still added to the price per day. ($55 for Deluxe, becomes $64.90).

Remember they are still doing the 20% off if you order before you board which makes it $46+8 so $54 with Grats.

I'm thinking I will easily drink 4 $12 drinks plus a coffee before Diamond happy hour. The only day it will tough will be port days. More then likely will only have a coffee, then be off the ship. Then when we board it will be Diamond hours, so those days will be tough.

  8. The new package is coming with 20% which brings it down to $46 a day + grats. Most fancy drinks are now $12+grats. Throw in some bottles of water and a special coffee or 2 and this really seems like a no brainer now.

The only kink for me is this is my first cruise as Diamond and we are getting those free drinks in the evening. I'm betting those 10 drink cards will now go away, but who knows. I go out again on Thanksgiving and will report back for Liberty.

  9. I heard from Cuddy that he has been told he is being promoted to CD. He doesn't know if he is staying on FR or getting another assignment when Casey returns. Time will tell!

That is great news, I enjoyed Cuddy as AM more then I like John Blair as the CD, when they worked together on the Navigator.

Cuddy will go down as one of the best in the fleet, like Mike Swza... and James Andrews. We miss those guys!!!
