  1. Most ships come into and leave port at different times. Last time we were there they stopped letting people on the island at 500(3 cruise ships in port) it took 45 minutes just to pay and get a ferry and it was a bit crowded in the morning then thinned out after lunch. I think I counted 3 boats each could take 40 or so people. They give you a time for your ship that the last ferry to be on to be able to make it back in time. We had no issues and we were back 45 minutes before sail away. I can tell this I will not schedule a visit there again if I see 3 ships.

In two weeks we are going back but we are the only ship in port, so I would expect less then 200 will be there that day and the island is plenty big enough for 200 people to spread out.

  2. I heard from someone I know that today's embarkation was awful. They are Pinnacle members. and instead of being first to board along with suite pax, all "gold members" were called for first boarding. What a downer for priority eligible cruisers! Also the staff didn't seem to know anything about how the process was supposed to work. All new to everyone! The 10 drink card for the last two weeks was on day 5, and $75 PLUS 18% gratuity. Not much of a savings.

$75+18%=$88 for 10 drinks. If most drinks are between $10-$12 before 18% then it seems like a 25-35% good deal to me. At 10 drinks regular $10 plus grata $118 and 10 at $12 plus tip $141. So a savings between $30 and $53. I will take that everyday, I will be on in 13 days to take advantage of that deal. The key is not to get beer with it or just straight cocktails.

  3. Thanks for your review. We found the dealers to be perhaps a bit quiet at first but we usually engage them and end up joking around most of the week. Sorry you had a different experience. Just goes to show each of us have unique times!

Did you play Craps and if you did what was the Min on the Pass Bet. $15 min on blackjack will keep most casual gamblers away, so I can see them being stiff with the guest since $15 and up gamblers sometime don't want to talk, at least not until the cocktails open them up a little.

  4. What is the usual time-frame for starting to offer upgrades, how far out from cruise date.

We have a cruise booked on Serenade 11 day and have Sup Bal but on wait-list for a GS. I was told we couldn't request a generic Suite upgrade, had to pick the cabin type. We are willing to do GS or OS. Nothing shows as available on the site. A JS was available a week ago but is now gone. Would they be upgrading folks this early for a late November cruise? Is it normal to have all the suites (RS is open but forget about it) fill up this far out on Serenade?

    Thanks

We got the call about 5 weeks before sailing. Did not know the room until 3 days before sailing. We did not expect the upgrade and was happy with what we got, points and all.

We leave again in 3 weeks for our last cruise as emerald. So our thanksgiving cruise we will be Diamond. Just go to hope nothing changes in the next 4 months to the points. Once we are locked in I will not care.

  5. Was your upgrade from a balcony to a Suite GTY free, or did you pay something for the upgrade?

    It was free.

I think the better chance for upgrades is on the Oasis ships since they have so many more suites, so if they can't sell they start the upgrade fairy. Then they can free up the cheaper rooms that are easier to sell. I have never received the call before or since, but it was a nice surprise.

  6. Won't happen. I know from experience...but nice to wish for it. ;)

Sorry it did not happen to you, but it did for me on the Allure. I even posted a thread about it. We were upgraded from a balcony to a Suite(W). Got the call 4 weeks before the sailing and did not know, until a week before what we would get. Ended up with JS on the hump. The people that were in that room previous were pinnacle and were upgraded to GS. Trickle down upgrade is what they called it, since they could have an easier time sailing ocean view balcony then suites.

The final cherry was when we came home, double points.

  7. Went last year when a couple of ships were in and I agree about the long line to pay and ride ferry. The island got packed to the point, when I talked to the owner he actually was turning people away. He told us he does not like more the 400 on island. We were lucky to get a spot over by cove where they cook and a nice bar is set up, downside was we could see the people over at big French and we had it nicer then them, I even wondered if it was possible for them to cross lagoon and crowd the island even more. And I guess I was loud enough never had an issue getting what I wanted. Going back in July only because we are the only ship and they offer a return guest discount.

Based on this photo as the ship left Sunday evening the slide has not been removed.[/QUOTE]

Did some more digging found this from Sunday. At 2:46 you can see they removed the exit to the slide. So good news is that it looks like it is getting fixed.
