  1. Our "w" ended up being a JS hump on the allure. It was previously occupied by a pinnacle member that was upgraded to a GS. We meet them since we got their mail all week. With them being pinnacle they got lots of perks, that after talking to CA person extended to us as we are only emerald. Ended up with a bridge tour, dinner with the captain and nightly treats sent to our room. the JS on the hump is very very nice.

  2. Not very hard math. But next time you go add up how much American money you spend. If is like most $200-$300 for your excursion or whatever then if you would have used pesos you would have saved $20-$30. To the average person that is a pretty good discount. As for bringing pesos home if is less then $170 pesos sure we bring them home since that is less then $10 if more then we convert back. As for us we usually end up in Cozumel every year or so and money unlike food does not go bad. Just keep put it in the travel drawer and use it the next time. Once you convert their is really no math, most vendors walk around with calculators. I have asked to use so to haggle a better price.

Like I said if you don't covert you are not letting your dollar which is weak in most countries work in your benefit. Mexico is one of the closest countries were your dollar is really strong. And I have only seen the jewelry store actually look at the daily conversion rate to give you a price. The 10-1, 12-1 was the conversion rate 9 years ago.

  3. Was just there in December. The exchange was 17 pesos to $1 us at the exchange right across the street from the pier. Most vendors use either 10 to 1 or 12 to 1. Very easy to see they prefer you pay in dollars sense they making a extra 10 percent on every purchase. We bought 1700 pesos for $100 plus a $2 fee. Every time we bought something we used there conversion and it worked in our favor. Shirt marked $5 was 50 pesos, when really it should have been close to 85 pesos if they knew the right exchange rate. Same with cab ride most everything is prices in $. Cab ride was $10 once I asked what it would bee in pesos the cabbie said 120 pesos, using the 12-1 conversion, when really he should have charged 170 pesos. My advise is let you $ work for you in countries we the $ is strong. They want you to pay in $ for convenience, but in reality you are losing a good bit money by not exchanging. If you buy too many pesos just exchange them back really easy same place or buy some more stuff. We usually get between $100-200 every time and it seems we normally never had much left over, any left is usually spent buying the $1 beers walking around.

  4. We will be your neighbors (well almost). Same cruise, room 1864. We had a deck 12 family room last year and LOVED it. Enough that finding a big deck 12 room available was why we booked this cruise.

Please post about your room when you come back, show photos. I have the luck of getting 1864 on our July cruise on Liberty and want to see more about it. I have only found 1 video from voyager that shows the room.

  5. We did last time we were there, it is great. Big Cat, did not seem crowded. The snorkel site was awesome, they take to an area where there is a helicopter, a boat and a plane sunk at about 50 foot deep water, after that you sail to an area close to the airport. They keep the ship about 100 feet from the shore and people can swim, go hang out on the beach or even just stay on the Cat and enjoy free Rum punch or beer.

They let my 7 year old son drive the boat almost the entire time. Good times for sure.

  6. Per the chief engineer during captains corner. They are needing special made pads for the top of the slide. Depending on the weight or position of the rider in the tube people can hit the edge. They hope to have the pads in the next few weeks. But he said he does not expect it to open for at least a few more sailings.

  7. Per the RC blog. The slide is getting padding for the upper wall appears that weight and how a rider positions themselves on the tube can effect how high you go up the ramp on the slide. Per the chief engineer of the ship at the Captain's corner the padding is on order with some parts arriving hopefully this weekend, does not for see the slide opening for a few more weeks.

  8. I don't have video but two in our group used the slides yesterday. They are racing slides. We were advised that fastest sliding is done by arching your bum up so only your head or shoulders touch and your feet. He said its so fast he felt G forces around the corners and shot out the end. Also said its very smooth. Almost like you can't feel the seams. Two thumbs up from our group. Tidal wave still not open. Still testing.

Are they completely dark inside? Appears they might have some sort of lighting in there.

My son wants to know how dark the slides are, thanks.

  9. I hope you are right because we are booked for November but dealing with RCI for the last couple years I'll bet it's for new bookings only.

It would cost me about $250 more to get my booking refared.

    Let's hope I'm wrong.

    Bill

It is now on the Front Page of RCL website. They are calling it a Perk for staying in these rooms come November on, so it is not a promotion. You should be good to go.

Now people are saying they can Mix/Match what they want but that seems like a nightmare for either the crew on board on booking agent since it seems that would be a lot harder to keep up with who gets what based on what you want. We will find out in November I guess how that plays out as people will be getting what they want or bashing because they did not get what they were told but got what was advertised for that particular room type.

  10. I guess when they say "Soda Package" for Boardwalks they mean "Royal Refreshment Package"??

    We don't drink much soda....

    So.......no bottle water??

Nice of Royal to throw in some perks for this class of stateroom.

Thanks for providing the link. To me this is not a promotion, it is a perk for staying in these rooms. So no worries about when you booked or if it is combinable. Most likely they will have some sort of Coupon or Ticket in your room for your perks so you can redeem them. Except for the wine, I'm sure that will be just the standard St. Martin Merlot/Cab that is considered their house wine in the Dinning Rooms.

  11. It is what you get for staying in these rooms come November 2016. It is a perk, it also had information about the suite amenities if you have one of those.

Do not have to worry with booking under a certain program, if you sail in these type of rooms this is what you get come November. I do not believe you can sub out the items from one neighborhood amenity to another. You have to consider which one is more valuable and what area of the ship you want to be on and consider your options.

I like the fact the RCCL is at least trying to offer new amenities to people that are not in suites. I did not see any difference in my price as compared to what it was last week.

Of course they will be some that think that ocean view balcony are being left out, but I think this is all about the people not booking those rooms as fast as the Oceanview rooms so they are offering an incentive. The Oasis class is usually always offering Inside Balcony deal I think it is the (X) cat. when booking.

  12. I just got an email that is stating if you book a Neighborhood balcony room you get complimentary amenities.

For Central park rooms you get: Lunch for 2 at Giovannis, A bottle of red wine, and private gaming lesson.

For Boardwalk rooms you get: 4 meal at Johnny Rockets, 2 soft drink packages and private rock wall time for the family.

States this is for sailing beginning in November 2016 on OA Class Ships.

Thought you guys might want to know.

  13. The only difference from Oasis and Allure is an additional ice show.

There are not 2 Broadway shows. Grease is the Broadway show while Columbus is the production show similar to Come Fly With Me on the Oasis.

The wording stated Broadway style shows. As stated in the article Columbus will be a RCI original Broadway way Style comedy show about a Christopher Columbus relative.

I have been on both Oasis and Allure and the extra Ice Show is what is new. I agree that you could do 2 shows in 1 day but that could take a bit of planning and If I recall the Aqua show and the Main Broadway show were done at the beginning of the week and the Ice show and RCI original was done at the end of the week because many of the performers from the Aqua show were in the RCI original doing stunts for that show. So I assume 1 ICE show will be in the beginning and the other will be at the end, which could make for some tough planning.

My only point is I just don't see a time when a Headliner could be worked in to this schedule.

  14. So based on this article below:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/cruises/cruiselog/2016/01/19/harmony-of-the-seas-to-feature-comedy-entertainment/78998208/

I'm assuming that there will be no headliners on this ship. 7 day cruise and 7 days of entertainment not including a feature headliner.

2 new Broadway style shows-Grease and Columbus.

2 new Watershows in the Aqua theater-with one focusing on the comedy diving.

    2 new Ice shows

1 night of comics in the comedy theater.

So unless my addition is incorrect that is 7 days. The only other thing I was thinking was they would have a headliner and you just have to pick what you are going to miss out on, that way you have a reason to return to sail her again to see what you missed.

  15. I guess a cruise out of New Orleans is out of the question for you, since New Orleans is the Murder capital of the US or at least it was. I felt more uncomfortable in parts of Dallas then I have ever felt in any place I have been out of the country. I just don't make myself an easy target by paying attention to what is around me. Good luck with your cruises to all the safe places in the world.

  16. It has a lot to offer but the distinction of Honduras holding the murder capital of the world title for several years now has me turned off of visiting again. The final straw was recently when a young NCL crew member, while talking to his wife on his cell phone, walked right out the main port gate and a guy on a bike rolled up and wanted to steal his cell phone, he resisted and was shot dead in the street. Again...my choice to never visit again.....but anyone else, its all yours, have fun... one other tidbit....just keep in mind you have been warned by the State Department as well.

This could happen in New York, New Orleans, Galveston and any port here in the US or anywhere in the world and I don't see people not vacationing in there. Be always cautious of what is going on around you and you will be fine. Criminals look for easy targets, it does not matter where you are.

  17. I never bought a drink in the casino on our latest Dream cruise (Sunday - Sunday). I will only play Craps (or sometimes 3 Card Poker when the Craps table is closed or full), and the supervisors at the tables were very generous throughout the cruise "buying" drinks for the table. Finally, on Friday night, I was given the DOU card, based solely on my table play. I used the card only once, because the supervisors continued to buy drinks the rest of the time anyway.

I budgeted $100/day for casino spending. I never lost all of it, and a few days I came out ahead. I ended the cruise about $200 ahead in the casino.

One other thing I learned is that the DOU card has the same 15 drinks per day limit that the Cheers program has. A gentleman sitting near me at one of the 3 Card Poker tables was ordering scotch one night pretty regularly, and I overheard the waiter tell him that he had one left on his DOU card.

Just got off Triumph and Pit bosses were buying drinks the entire week. Seems like a got about 2 free drinks an hour, and just like you during the cruise they came over and attached the DOU card to my sail and sign and I only bet $10 on BJ and Play the numbers on Craps, but they still continued to buy the rounds. They even bought rounds for the poker players. I like the new attitude they were showing, plus they know how to keep the gamblers happy. They only thing I did not like is when the free drinks came I was the only one that tipped the server. I even mentioned to people it not hard to ask for $1 chips. I kept hearing the same response "I don't have any cash on me or I've lost enough not to have to tip".

  18. Texas has spring break for most schools are the first 3 weeks of the month. Different districts and colleges are using one of those 3 weeks. After that you will notice the price being lower until the end of May/1st of June with the exception of any week with a holiday. Cruise prices are always high for holiday's, summer and spring break out of Texas and very cheap from Sept-December minus the holidays and very cheap Jan-Feb. I have experience on this one since my wife is a teacher and we have to plan our cruises around when she is out of school. I can not wait until she retires then we can cruise 4 or 5 times a year during those cheap months compared to what it cost in the summer and over spring break.

  19. Super pumped, cabin is not even built yet. Hopefully by July all the kinks will be worked out.

Saw this room on the navigator and knew I had to sail in it, throw on top of all the Cyber Monday freebies that Royal and A big box travel site just added and I've got $800 OBC, $100 spa credit, $50 dinning credit, a bottle of wine, 2 scoops from Ben and Jerrys, 2 free credits to JR, 2 Credits to cupcake decorating class, 2 free soda packages.

I can't wait until July, the wife and kid are going to be so excited.
