  1. I drove for Uber and Lyft for a couple of years. When the driver accepts the ride they have no idea where the passenger is going until the passenger gets into the car and the driver taps a button acknowledging that they have picked up the passenger. Then the app provides directions to the destination. Unscrupulous drivers will call you and ask you where you want to go and if they do not want to drive to that destination they will pressure you to cancel the ride. The driver does not get penalized for canceling the ride. The passenger may incur a 5-dollar fee. If you opt for the more expensive cars, then you sometimes get professional drivers and better experiences.
  2. Thank you for the info. This helps me keep track of the changes of not so smart clothes that I need to pack to have clean when I disembark.
  3. I am thinking it would be day 5 to be returned on day 6. I know it's expensive but we are on vacation. Having clean laundry when we disembark will make for an enjoyable second half of trip to Paris.
  4. I just signed up for the premium package. If it does not work I will ask for a refund. I will be using iMessage on my iPhone. Would skype work for calling?
  5. I enjoyed the trip report. Thank you for the information on the Internet. My main concern is that my family can get a hold of me via text in an emergency. That seems doable.
  6. I know that anything like going on the internet or sending emails and photo attachments is probably a no-go. Is the WIFi reliable enough to send simple texts message to people on land and receive from people on land? Is it reliable enough to for two people on different parts of the QM2 to send texts to each other? Thank you.
  7. I am wondering if my clothes need to take an IQ test to determine if they are "smart" . . .
  8. Does Cunard sell private transfers too, or just the bus ride?
  9. Thank you all for the answers. I am definitely not going to use the train. I do have a private transfer booked but is expensive. Do I understand correctly that the only way I can book the Cunard Transfer is once I am onboard the ship?
  10. I think the Cunard Transfer would be the simplest. Do they run one bus and jam everybody together or do they run a couple so there is more room?
  11. Do I understand correctly that there is a bus(coach) service from Southhampton to St. Pancras?
  12. It is a pretty significant difference between booking in advance and selecting a specific train and purchasing a ticket that is good on any train. We would not be doing self-disembark. We would be in Brittania class. About what time would we get off the ship if everything is on schedule? How often. are there delays? I know in the United States Ships are sometimes delayed when they are clearing customs and immigration.
  13. Thank you for this information. We would definitely use a cab once we got to London. Is it one of those routes where it is better to buy tickets in advance, or is the price the same if we wait to purchase tickets the day of travel? I am assuming these trains do not have reserved seats.
  14. I am considering this instead of a private transfer to save some money. Our hotel is adjacent to St. Pancras and is a part of the King's Cross station if I understand the layout correctly. So the bus transfer might be okay to do if we are not jammed on top of each other. If we took the train, how crowded with the train be from Southhampton to London? We are arriving in Southhampton on Friday, July 14. Thank you.
  15. Oops!! I answered my question about the drinks package. It is showing up each day of my booking.
  16. I purchased the 30-dollar-per-day drinks passage for both people in my cabin. I received a confirmation number. I don't see it listed under my booking, but I am not sure if there is a place to look. Additionally, my travel agent also paid/comped us for dinner in the steakhouse. That is also not listed in the booking as far as I can tell. Is there a place on the Cunard website to verify these things, or will they show up closer to departure? We leave in July. Thank you.
  17. Though I have no personal experience I've read on here that the QM2 is designed for transatlantic crossings. Thud handling rough seas differently than a cruise ship. I'm booked for July. So it's supposed to be calmer that time of year.
  18. I would like to thank all of you who shared your experiences with the website. It is challenging to say the least. But the workaround of calling in to add emergency contact information worked flawlessly. I called Cunard (I live in the US) and was connected to an agent in less than a minute. Then I dictated the information to her and it immediately showed up on the website.
  19. Based on what I am reading, it's best to assume that texts on iPhone (no pictures or extras) would not work on a transatlantic cruise. Am I correct in this assumption?
  20. I recommend Alcatraz or riding cable cars. A day pass for MUNI allows unlimited rides. There are vintage street cars running along the embarcadero. This is called the F line. Also a great ride.
  21. I will most definitely be trying the Pizza on my crossing in July.
  22. I have never heard of candied Ginger. I was planning on taking some sort of sea sickness medicine. Buit if the Champaign is not spilling in force 10 winds I am not too worried about it.
