That’s because they were in quarantine. My husband was one of those and spent 6 days in quarantine before testing negative and being released. I was deemed a close contact and was tested every two days until 48 hours after his negative test. On days medical center didn’t test, I did self test … so nine negative tests in all. We were very careful … wore masks on embarkation and in transit day in Ft Lauderdale, ate in Club Orange (smaller dining venue ), no pool areas, avoided elevators and no large bus tours. Triple boosted. Still got Covid … and there were others. We knew and accepted the risks of travel these days

I did talk to Guest Services on the first day of quarantine about a separate cabin to sleep in. There is an isolation area on the ship where my husband could have been moved to but I would not have been able to see him at all for the quarantine period. We elected not to do that as we figured I had already been exposed and we have a nice balcony that has been a great place for my husband to spend time. Not sure what the isolation cabin would have been!

I was able to add CO directly through HAL but my TA had to do the room upgrade. I had to educate TA on CO

No I am free to go wherever including dining room and off at ports. I do not want to take the chance of possibly exposing other passengers so I spend my days outside in the sun away from others. I take a long walk on the promenade deck at night. We order all meals from in room dining and eat on our balcony, we leave our balcony door open for fresh air and if I do go somewhere on ship, I wear a mask. I am tested by medical service every two days and I self test in between. I have heard that others in a similar situation are not taking any precautions and one in particular is going unmasked to the dining room to eat at a table with others.

1/4 - 1/25 B2B Caribbean Cruise Changes
C&K2Cruise replied to jow623's topic in Holland America Line
We are on the Rotterdam sailing 1/14-2/4. The itinerary for the 1/14-25 segment has been completely changed. I have been trying to rebook HIA included shore excursions but no excursions are shown for most of the ports. Have talked to Shore Excursions department and keep getting a reply that booked excursions will be moved to the revised date but so far that has not occurred. Our shore excursion at St. Thomas was cancelled by HAL .. I am assuming because arrival time was changed or ? -
Caribbean Excursion Recommendations
C&K2Cruise replied to rgoldstein86's topic in Holland America Line
We have gone with Woodwind twice and definitely recommend. -
That is my understanding. We paid $15pp/day but it is a 21 day cruise. It is $25pp/pd for shorter cruises.

Just to add ... I believe the HAL office that handles CO (Ship Inventory) may be only open M-F.
-
Call HAL directly at 1-888-628-8107. Even though I have a TA, I had a lot of questions re: Club Orange. I called HAL at the number shown and they answered all my questions. This is the office that handles Club Orange so they can tell you status on your cruise. To actually book CO, you will have to go through your TA but you will have all the information you need.
-
Actually I went through our Big Box TA ... have refared twice so far . Once was to add Club Orange and yes we did have to pay up front for CO. The second time was for a price drop on the obstructed veranda rate ... our fare is based on that rate even though we are in a V category cabin. It was a fairly easy and quick process once I had explained what Club Orange was to the TA.
-
We were able to purchase Club Orange after we were already booked and had a V category cabin selected. HAL refared us at the Obstructed Verandah (VH) rate and we were able to keep our V category cabin. We are on a 21 day Carribbean cruise so CO was $15/day per person ... $630 for the two of us but overall booking price (including CO) dropped by $710. We saved a lot of $$$ and we were also able to switch to the Early Booking rate which includes HIA with crew appreciation fees included.
