As the title says... anyone take a cruise on a new ship just after they did the ceremonies for the ship naming?  Did they invite the passengers to attend or can one just show up?  What time of day do they do it?  Was it worth seeing?  We are scheduled to be on the Enchanted for its maiden voyage from Southampton.  There is one cruise before ours, the inaugural cruise which takes it from Italy to Southampton.  There it will sit for three days until our cruise.  I assume they will do the naming then but not sure why it sits for three days.

    Thanks.

don't be surprised when Princess adds a 3 day pre-maiden cruise  to the maiden cruise ...:classic_ninja:

We have decided to give cruising with Princess a miss for the foreseeable future one of the many reasons is the standards of dress that some people wear when entering the MDR whether it be "smart casual" or "formal" is the reason why we will be giving Princess a miss for future cruises.I wouldnt do the garden in some of the clothes that I have seen wearing on "smart casual" nights and peoples idea of formal dress beggars belief. Princess have a brass plaque outside MDR on all ships stating dress code and then completely ignore it and dont enforce it. When being brought up was always taught it was manners not to wear a hat in church or while eating its a pity some cannot take their baseball caps off when eating I think some must sleep in them and nobody has the nerve to tell them what a "plonker" they look in them.

personal choice is a beautiful thing ... ain't it yall

    Thank you for the answer.

I also found out that I can purchase as many as I want through out the cruise. Plan on getting just one when we board and then see how many we drink together. Heck, I could easily use the 15 coffees in a 14 day cruise <grin>

correct, but noting that the 'free fresh brewed' coffee in the IC is strictly for only the person with the coffee package, and not to be shared with anyone else ... unlike the 15

We did exactly this in May.  3 day suite repositioning from LA to Vancouver, followed by one day solo inside from Vancouver to Seattle (upgraded to a balcony, not that it mattered).  4 quick points and we'll be elite after our next "normal" cruise in December.

how many actual cruise days will you have to reach that level based on cruise credits ?

I just received email offer To upgrade to a full suite from a Mini suite, but the price is an additional $1500 per person! That too rich for me. I was just curious if anyone has any success negotiating a better price? Should I call and attempt?

sure, why not ... if you get a call back, let them know you are very interested , just not at that price point

  6. back to non-formal nights ...

my attire - a long-sleeve button down shirt - usually a llbean brand or similar ... khaki colored linen pants ... with brown echo sandals ... and the shirt is NEVER tucked in

now, would it really bother anyone if I substituted a nice pair of khaki dress shorts instead of the long pants ???

Yes, but not an Elite benefit. Anyone can request a bathrobe. You can ask 2 ways, your Personalizer before the cruise or your steward after you board.

Some stewards put robes in the closet without being asked.

  8. reading thru multiple threads about the OM, and even having taken place in an on board discussion group on the CB , it seems that some loyal and even new cruisers are not part of the target market to use the features of the OM

I guess Princess knew that there would be collateral damage at an acceptable rate ...

    Isn't this pretty common ???

Added Edit : we have been on the one OM cruise that I referred to above about the discussion group ... my wife and I had the OM in hand before boarding ... we are not "phone in hand all the time" type of people either and really ended up just using the OM almost like the cruise card ... it was just in a different 'form'

2nd Edit : we were booked on the Regal initial OM cruise rollout, but weren't in the selected few cabins to use the OM, so we cancelled both the 2 day and 4 day cruises with no problems from Princess ...

    OK, done

Thank-you voljeep for the information.  That would be a substantial "refund."  However, had we wanted a less expensive cruise price, we would have booked a less costly stateroom.  We're just fussy about such things - type of stateroom and location of it.

Would think that response to this offer will be brisk. So  Good Luck to anyone taking advantage of it.  You might even be able to take another cruise!!!  Wow!

That is a true "Move Over" offer ... where Princess wants/needs your cabin, but doesn't have another one on the ship to offer you ...

so , at least in our case, we got a 100% OBC to 'move over' to another cruise date ... we went from a 5 day cruise to a fully paid 7 day cruise and had the 5 day cruise fare as refundable credit on the 7 day...

we were very fortunate our schedules permitted that  ... no flying involved

Our very first Princess Cruise we booked an obstructed view (picked our cabin) and were surprised to find we’d been upgraded to a balcony when we checked in!  (That was ‘08). We were hooked!

hook, line and sinker ... perfect execution by Princess ... at no additional incremental cost

OK - I'm done. I need to get my cat ready to go to the Kitty Spa - I'll be sure to ask if they have a chair in his kitty condo.  Sorry, couldn't resist that.

Nice- reminds me of the time we took our Cocker ( RIP ) to his place to spend the week ... we booked a medium sized 'house' with a little run space ( larger than most Princess balconys ..)

Anyway, when we dropped him off, they told us he had been 'upgraded' to a mini-suite with a bed and a tv playing Animal Planet ... while we had our inside cabin on the cruise ...

but yeah we don't do much room service , if any, so not sure how much we will/may miss the chair

  12. As an aside - what do you people think the MAIN job , and then secondary jobs of the Maitre D should be, and what it actually is on his/her Princess ship and dining room ?
