It's a very long flight from Sydney to LAX . In 2015 I missed the Xtdney to LAX with business class air miles we had . They have limits using miles to book . so we did the next best thing . It turned out to be 4 airports , 25 hours going first class( no beds on the first class flights ) on 3 different airlines to get back to San Diego airport A word of caution unless you can get a direct non stop from Sydney to LAX from HAL then take your chances .I think non stop to LAX is still 12 or 14 hour flight , I would never do that in coach . It would need business class bed

Princess has had nothing but problems with their Oceans Ready App .I threw away a $ 925 FCC with Princess because it was way too frustrating dealing with all their new employees over the phone who knew nothing about this crazy technology . If HAL adopts this & they can not explain it in simple terms I guess that will be the end of us cruising with them as well

Just be cautious with my money by including vendor default . does not cost that much more adding it in to a trip policy . Id rather loose a hundred that thousands . We too try to be positive in a negative world these days

Does Post Pandemic cruising compare to pre Pandemic of 2019 ?
mcrcruiser replied to mcrcruiser's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Then if Celebrity is lowering food quality & staff won't that impact their sales going forward as this gets out to the consuming public ? Supply chain has been the scape goat of convenience for too many business . Either a business can or can't deliver at a price they set ,imo -
What I am saying is we see prices in general down not up vs 2019 pre pandemic .We paid more in 2019 than we are doing today . We definitely took out vendor default in our trip insurances ;because no one knows for sure that any CCL or RCL ship will sail as planed
-
Yes how does all these financials reflect on the quality of cruising like food quality & variety , entertainment quality ie .so where does every one see where the industry id headed & especially HAL ships ?
-
All 3 of these cruise lines have huge debt loads .Take RCLs new mega sized ships as a example .Norwegian also has huge sized ships in their fleet .Perhaps the huge ship thinking could vow be a thing of the past . Duel prices are once again going higher .Yes Cruise lines & airlines use hedging contracts ;but ,at some point they all gave to bite the new bullet Probably the most concerning point going forward for any cruise line is can they get the ships back to capacity ;as this inflation is taking deep tolls on pax pocket books for leisure travel

We booked 5 cruises starting in Dec 2022 , then March & finally October 2023 .In all 5 cruises we booked out insurance through Squaremouth .com & there we took out insurances that included vendor default , many tears ago there was a cruise line called Renisance cruise line & the creditors came in & every pax had to vacate that day off those ships . Azamara & Princess bought some of those smaller ships Can the above happen again ,imo yes because of the huge debt loads & thin margins
-
you are 100% correct in your statement imo . We see cruise lije like HAL dropping prices .We booked the Dec 10th Mexico cruise in a Handicap balcony cabin .total cost thru a TA was $1444 plus a $60 OBC on Koningsdam for 7 night s .It certainly had been a very long time ago that we even came close to that price . We also booked B2B cruise for March on Celebrity Soltice with a handicap balcony m14 nights for $3600 includes tips , Classic drink pkg & wifi BTW if CCL stock drops below $5 per share most brokers will no longer follow the stock The only thing I hope for is that HAL survives the CCL business model problems😄

So much to be thankful for . The above posts are definitely appreciated .Although we have had the virus & have natural immunity ,still there are always possibilities on ships & elsewhere , We are going to ask our doctor for a RX for the Pfizer frug discussed above . Add to out long list of meds are KN 05 masks ;which we will use except while dining or in the pool .Even in the gym we will have them with us
-
At one time on the deck near the inside pool there was a healthy restaurant that served Ahi tuna . We were bummed when X duscontinued serving Ahi tuna In general we feel the good quality is about the same over the years we sailed with Celebrity . Other than the Ahi Tuna we do not find huge quality or selection changes

Those folks that have shares best to just hold & hope that the cruise industry comes around in the future & the cruise lines can pay down this huge debt . We don't envision any of them paying dividends for many years .Today ,there is a sense with many companies that they may have to cut or cancel dividends to conserve cash . Companies only pay dividends from free cash flows . just look at the devastating stock price on Intel (intc is the symbol) .imo they may find they will have to cut or eliminate dividends which would drive the share price even lower

I am finding that by Triple Shorting this Bear Market ,i can make more than any OBC from any cruise line with less risk . This market unfortunately is doomed until the Federal Reserve stops raising the interest rates to stem inflation .What is interesting is not only are they raising the rates on the front end but they are now selling the 18 Trillion dollars in bonds they bought for Qantitive Easing , Thus the Federal Reserve is actually raising rates faster than the apparent rate increases . Although the market projects 6 months in advance ,we are in for a global recession & unfortunate there will be pain during that time . Bad government policies have brought about this inflation & the harsh reality that comes from it
-
CCL had suspended the dividends . what they did was float a additional one billion follars worth of stock which diluted the shares already outstanding .Carnival has more debt load than either RCL or Norwegian ;but ,all of them are not in food shape . what I did like was those long cruise types . At $250 in OBC a per cruise can recoup the shares cost pretty quick

Pre pay for specialty dining or buy onboard?
mcrcruiser replied to netingirl's topic in Holland America Line
We reserved 2 pre cruise special restaurants & did not have to pay in advance. We will get the Mariner discount when we dine in each restaurant 😁 -
Pre pay for specialty dining or buy onboard?
mcrcruiser replied to netingirl's topic in Holland America Line
If you are a 3 star Mariner & Above you get discounts on speciality dinner s .Thus ,we would think it best to make a reservation before the cruise but pay after the dinner for the discount -
Hmm the prices have gone up bringing our own wine . Thus 2 bottles cost $40 & we buy the 2 buck chuck at Trader Joes .This is really funny but ,wines aboard are also much higher these days with inflation

We have B2B cruise on her for March 11 & 18 ,2023 . Seems to me that the crew will keep her in the best shape possible .No worries here 😁

We feel that there had been a pent up demand for cruising following the height of the pandemic . Now ,we feel that the cruise lines will be slowing down some what because one of the stock market declines which now seem to have picked up steam & the high cost of inflated living .Un the near future we see less pax that at present until the economy recovers
