    Roatan Taxis

a driver seperate form a taxi? If I am understanding.. there is no way to do this. Perhaps you are asking the differnce between a private driver and a random taxi. You can hire english speaking private drivers to accompish any itinterary you wish. One books this ahead with a tour company. Taxi on the other hand are available outside the gate, may or may not speak english and may or may not being willing to sort round trip and may or may not be a price you are willing to pay.
  2. When I visit for weeks, I take US with me and I get change back in Lemerpia. I have no idea if there is Lemperia available within the port it seems unlikey unless it is sorta like pass port stamps. Then again, I would bet any of the staff have local in their wallet and would be willing to swicth. Had you planned to leave the port area? There was heaps of shops in the village of West End, that would be more than happy to take your USD in exchnage for lemperia. Buy a beverage or someother small thing. Please note ~ the banks on the island for very picky about the USD they take which means everyone on the island is as well.. you want to take clean, no rips/tears, no marks on them bills.
  3. Beautiful photo! There is a second course in on the hill above West Bay, I think it is 9 holes instead of 18.
  4. There is a Roatan FaceBook group called Ask Anything. You may find someone there to help.
  5. My perspective is anyplace willing to allow random strangers to handle animals is in no way doing it for the good of the animal. So no, there is not healthy sloth place on the island. My preferance is to view aniamls in their own environment. I have seen sloth in Bocas Del Torom monkey and tigers in India.. and one day I will get to Africa.
  6. Yes West Bay has sandflies and other bugs that carry all manner of nasty. Take a bug repellent that works would well for you. With that said, the bugs seem to be indivdual in their meals... you may not be bothered at all while the person next to you will get eaten alive without some sort of block.
  7. Only occasionaly. There are two web cams here, one in the Village of West End and the other in West Bay at Bananarama. Today the beach is clean. https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/honduras/bay-islands/roatan/west-bay.html Unfortunately, the one at the Beach House on West End's Half Moon Bay is still down.
  8. Ahh the port of Roatan is walking distance from the town of Coxen Hole. I can understand if you were expecing more at the port. I understand there is more in the works. In the mean time, Carnival has it's port on Roatan that offers everything one could need. Well, except a authentic expereince, but many people are not seeking such.
  9. I am interested to know why you didn't like Roatan. To the OP, If you are comfortable in water, the reefs of Roatan ae easy to access and some of the best in the Caribbean.
  10. This at Mahogany Bay? Beach Cabanas
  11. And here is another map to show you where the snorkeling location. The red roofed building is Infinty. The empty looking space to the right is Tabyana.
  12. Roatan has some of the best snorkling in the Caribbean. I think everyone should get in the water.
  13. Sloth place near Infinity? Do you remember the name?
  14. My apolgies I thought you said West End.. which is a small village with Half Moon Bay Beach. West Bay is a whole other place. Enjoy our holiday.
  15. Is the beach club in West End? Or West Bay. The OP wishes to go to West Bay. There is more then one sloth/monkey place on the island, there is a good chance Bodden's people will be takng you to his in Sandy Bay. The OP specifically said Daniels. Then again, perhaps the OP would be willing to adjust their plans. 🙂
  16. Oh apologies, I had no idea Sol could replace Daniels.
  17. Is not Sol Y Mar is on the West Bay side of Coxen Hole as well. I suppose it would save 15 mins but the difference between Sol and West Bay seems to be worth the extra time.
  18. These two places are not close and sure you can do it via random taxi. With that said, I think you would be far better off hiring a private driver... he/she can tell you about his home.
  19. Yes both Infinity and Paradise are on West Bay Beach, they do not share a property line but they are very close. Day passes at Infinty have always been higher, maybe because of their amenities. The beach hawkers are on the whole of West Bay Beach...they are just trying to feed their families. I find a polite no thank you worls just find. Please remember, you are a guest in their country. If reef snorkling steps from your lounger is the goal, Infinty is the answer even with the beach hawkers. If I do this right you should see an image. The red roof is Infinty.. see the green flags in from of it.. that is the channel to the reef. I have never had anyone tow me out, it seems a very short swim to me. Enjoy your trip.
  20. If you don't need a beach, perhaps a snorkel excursion from Daniel's which is much closer than West Bay. Oh after the snorkel you could have a look at Mahogany Bay Beach.
  21. If Harry's is the only thing on your itinerary....email them. There is a very good chance they will refer you to a reputable driver.
  22. Once upon a time I switched credit card payments, I over paid, by a lage amount, one credit card and under paid the other. When I figured it out I called, they said it would be a FOUR week waiting period to get it back. I was stunned you can take it in a matter of seconds but I can't have it back for four weeks. At four weeks and one day I called again, asked where my refund was. For whatever reason.. it had not happened and they said another four weeks. You can bet I was not happy. Anywho, 10 weeks on I got the refund, cashed out my points, canceled the card and will NEVER again dop any businees with Bank of America. Some days just don't go the way I think they should. I have to remember, the whole of the world doesn't revolve around me...even when the subject is my hard earned dollars. :0)
  23. Little French Key is on the windward side of the island. I think ya need a boat to get to the snorkeling and it seems to me the wind would be pushing you inland. It did when I was snorkeling Cocoview's front yard on that side of the island. West Bay and Infinity are more protected with parts of the reef system steps from your lounger, in a lagoon-ish area. If there is a Northern storm, all bets are off. While West Bay Is usually bathtub calm, I have seen 6 foot muddy yucky waves as well. If snorkeling from the beach is the goal, In would chose Infinty.

    Sargassum?

I often watch the Las Rocas web cam in difficult days.

    Sargassum?

I hope the system allows for .... THIS is the West End Village webcam. THIS is the Las Rocas webcam, it is just east of West Bay beach. THIS is the Bananarama webcam on West Bay Beach. THIS is Cocoview on the other side of the island. The Beach House in West End has a webcam but I am unable to find it. I can not guarantee any other part of the island. :0)
