  1. I don't think Anthony's Key has a beach. Upachaya is not in Sandy Bay. I have no idea if it has a beach but it is closer to Mahogany Bay than Sandy Bay. Sol Y Mar is in Sandy Bay. Little French Key...Golly there are so many things to not like about that place...but people do. I would look for truly recent reviews and if anyone mentions animals don't go. There is not another beach like West Bay on the island. You could look at one of the man made beaches. Fantays Island? Parrot Tree? Maybe Camp Bay Lodge on the far east end maybe would shuttle drinks for you. You would have to ask. It is a beautiful spot with an almost constant breeze, not much snorkeling but no bugs either. Paya Bay offers day passes but I have no idea if they have alcohol runners.
  2. I supose I sould have said I have been visiting Roatan almost annually for 23 years sometimes staying up to three months. I have snorkled heaps of the island. The only place I have seen a shark, Nurse and harmless, was off of Little Corn Island. Clackey, they say the Bahamas are a good spot for shark sitings. There are also whipsers of whale sharks off of Utila but it is said to be hit or miss.
  3. Directions on the island are a bit wonky and difficult for me because of the way the island lands on the water. With that said, can tell you I have snorkeled various areas around the island from end to end and side to side and never seen a shark.
  4. There is a fair amount of family drama around LFK. The website with the notice was relatiation from one family member to another. This is the current correct website. https://littlefrenchkeyresort.com/ This a thread dated March 2 may offer some insight.
  5. You seem to have the lay of the land. If you want boat-free reef snorkeling steps from your lounger, so your 75-year-old can track your snorkeling, Infinity is the answer. I understand the construction is farther back from the beach.. it may not impact you. Paradise Beach Club does not share a property line with Infinity; both Coral Sands and West Bay Village are between them. But it is the close resort to Infinity that offers a pool and day pass. Bananarama is just on the other side of the access road from Paradise; unless something has changed, there is no pool. Mayan is the one furthest from the reef snorkeling on your list. Mind you, the whole of West By Beach can be walked in a matter of 20 mins; nothing is all that far from anything. With your older family member, I would choose to pre-book Infinity. But you could take your chances and purchase after you have looked at all of your options. A word of warning, Infinity passes have always been limited.

    Saragasum?

It may depend on what part of the island.. this is a webcam on West Bay Beach. West End would look that same. Camp Bay is more exposed to the north wind so.. I am not sure about it. https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/honduras/bay-islands/roatan/west-bay.html
  7. Why the heck doesn't Regal Princess just say Mahogany Bay.
  8. The port of Roatan is in Coxen Hole. The other port name is Mahogany Bay. Yes there is transportion outside the port gates. Taxi are expensive on the island, if you decide what you want to do we maybe able to come up with a better option than a random port taxi.
  9. I agree with CLegs, that chart makes no sense. I would much rather chose a day pass with transport included or hire a private driver so you can learn about his/her beloved island.
  10. I don't see the tranfer to West End but $35 to West Bay Beach is....very good. Hey and the are offereing beach chairs, I don't know where, for $15. Ahh that number is 3 or more in the party, it is $40 rund trip for 2. And then they add another $5 for the port of Roatan and $10 for Mahogany Bay.. maybe it is not such a great deal afater all. Watch those add odd fees! Do let us know if you go thise route.
  11. Does AKR have a beach? I have not been to Turquoise Bay cause many people say the sand is like cement. Clegs, have you been, can you tell us differently?
  12. The premier beach on the island is West Bay Beach. There are heaps of dive operators at resorts that also offer day passes, Infinity Bay and Mayan Princess come to mind. But there are plenty of other dive shops on the beach. I would recommend contacting a few dive shops on West Bay Beach to see what they can offer you.
  13. I don't think Grand Roatan offers day passes. Infinity and Mayan Princess on West Bay Beach have the biggest pools for possible swim up bars. Paradise has a pool as well but I can't remember the size. Caribe Tesoro has a swim up bar but there is no beach and I don't know if they offer day passes.
  14. Also remember to reapply when you come out of the water.. there are whispers the bugs LOVE salty flesh. By the by ~ the bugs don't love everyone, bit those they do need to heed all warnings.
  15. I have been learning from this wind map. Wind Map Fudge. I was going to offer you the Mahogany Bay webcam as well but it seems to be off line. This is the link if ya wish to have the ocassional peek. http://www.mahoganybaycc.com/webcam.aspx
  16. If by "we didn't know what we were doing" means breathing through the snorkel.. maybe there is a dive shop in your area and a pool where you and your family can get more comfortable with the equipment.. this way you don't have to learn on holiday. Cause really snorkeling is just breathing and floating. :0)
  17. It may be because I don't pay enough attention to some language used in these forums..but Do you just want to know if you can get food at Infinity without paying for an AI version of a day pass? Yes, the La Palapa Bar on the beach at Infinity will be happy to take your money as will a zillion other restaurant and bar options on West Bay Beach. on a side note ~ what sort of day pass are you using? prebooking is always a good idea.. oh maybe your ship is sorting it for you.
  18. The members of one of the Roatan Facebook pages are often recommending Luna Beach. I have no first-hand knowledge and personally would not book until after I saw the operation.
  19. It is possible to avoid paying a resort day fee if you don't need any amenities. The beach and the water are free. There is no need for the expense of a boat to get you to the reef. There is plenty of reef with easy access to enjoy. This map gives you a good idea of what is available from the beach. The red roof is Infinity Bay resort. South Shore zip line is on the hill above West Bay, as is the Gumbalimba line going down the other side of the hill. I am risk-averse when time is involved. I would hire a reputable private driver to be where you want him when you want him to be there.

    Roatan Taxis

The usual suspects are Bodden and Rony. Cleve Tours gets heaps of amazing reviews. There is also a new outfit called Roatan Driver, Jessy and her husband are delightful people getting all kinds of rave reviews.

a driver seperate form a taxi? If I am understanding.. there is no way to do this. Perhaps you are asking the differnce between a private driver and a random taxi. You can hire english speaking private drivers to accompish any itinterary you wish. One books this ahead with a tour company. Taxi on the other hand are available outside the gate, may or may not speak english and may or may not being willing to sort round trip and may or may not be a price you are willing to pay.
  22. When I visit for weeks, I take US with me and I get change back in Lemerpia. I have no idea if there is Lemperia available within the port it seems unlikey unless it is sorta like pass port stamps. Then again, I would bet any of the staff have local in their wallet and would be willing to swicth. Had you planned to leave the port area? There was heaps of shops in the village of West End, that would be more than happy to take your USD in exchnage for lemperia. Buy a beverage or someother small thing. Please note ~ the banks on the island for very picky about the USD they take which means everyone on the island is as well.. you want to take clean, no rips/tears, no marks on them bills.
  23. Beautiful photo! There is a second course in on the hill above West Bay, I think it is 9 holes instead of 18.
