  1. Maybe because orange is the Dutch colour in many things. House of Orange -Nassau and all that.
  2. Costume is mentioned in the onboard invitation and yes, open to misinterpretation apart from the website mentions Italian Renaissance, Venetian themes and masks so one would assume costume refers to clothes of a Venetian theme. Whatever, each to their own and Giles2000 do look good. 🙂 Didn't look at the film offerings so can't help you there I'm afraid.
  3. Now that made me grin, except orange washes me out so could I go trad. white/grey apparel, the ones with all the arrows on?😄
  4. Have the 'always available' menu offerings in Britannia ceased now?
  5. You both look amazing but for others looking in, this is the Masquerade 'invitation' to the evening. The word 'costume' could be misleading but fancy dress was not the point of the evening.
  6. I guess it would beat sleeping tablets for some though! 😄
  7. None of the sparkling stuff for us. Just the champagne. Huh. Missed out there but we did get a box of eight Charbonnel chocs so I guess that evens out.😄
  8. Hey exlondoner , just be smug you can get in AND out of the bath!!!! Look forward to reading about your QV experiences. Enjoy.
  9. The 5's are aft and benefit from the slightly raked stern so have a similar width to the 3/4s but have a much greater depth. We won't go into 'special treatment' as I'm drained dry on that subject but you will be special and will have a great time.
  10. I saw the occasional polo shirt under jacket [which is a step up for just a polo shirt, also worn which again, was a step up from a tee] worn around QV two/three weeks ago and that definitely was within the Cunard dress advisory but right or wrong and not having travelled QM2 other than short channel hops, I get the impression she is more dressy and so what you would call a dress shirt, with or without tie under the jacket, would be more suitable for non Gala nights. Just be aware though, some of the advice given here will be very subjective. Follow the Cunard advisories for accuracy but also take in the fact QM2 is the flagship and does seem to veer on the less 'casual' side of dress of an evening.
  11. It took me two days to wish we were on a b2b so you've beaten me. I hope you have a fantastic time. If anyone deserves one, it's you.
  12. and I love the bit of nonsense on your left shoulder. You do know how to accessorize!
  13. Sadly, I think it you who might have to go elsewhere as folk continue to choose to book the existing and the new Cunard ships.
  14. ballroom-cruisers If our recent cruse is anything to go by, the Cunard evening tradition of dressing for dinner is in no danger, thank goodness and I hope the dancers continue to dance as we like to watch but for those who like taking a pop at the cruise line in general, as tweaks are not to their liking, I still say if you don't like it, don't book it and leave the ships to those of us who do still enjoy Cunard.
  15. No, not a dancer but we do love big bands and we do watch the dancers and as for music, I can't quite see how you can assume I wouldn't have appreciated the orchestras of the past as I can quite honestly say I love most music genres. I say Easy solution Don't cruise with a brand or on a ship you don't like. You say So, there are no other brands to switch to. The unique Cunard of the past is pretty much gone now There is so much knocking of Cunard in certain quarters that quite frankly, if it's that bad now, why bother booking. I guess you've sort of answered me.
  16. Easy solution Don't cruise with a brand or on a ship you don't like.
  17. If it wasn't for Carnival taking over Cunard at the end of the nineties, it's questionable if Cunard would exist so as a relatively newcomer to the brand, although a second generation Cunard cruiser, I am thankful Carnival 'was there' even if I don't enjoy the Cunard of the past. If that means Carnival are tweaking brands, so be it. 'We' don't need to cruise with any of their brands if the tweaks offend. So far, we're not offended. 🙂
  18. Our experience is you won't get any more correspondence on the subject so now, make your request known to the high vis folk directing the queue so you get to go to the front and then at the terminal door, ask for wheelchair assistance.
  19. Maybe I should have gone back another generation. You call Mary elegant and with symmetry. To me the ship is fussy as a Victorian, notwithstanding the art decor interior. I call her fussy, you call her elegant and with symmetry, We won't agree. Make that two generations as I forget which one I'm in! 😄
  20. My long reply which I must have deleted instead of posting [clumsy fingers] mentioned your comprehensive post #80 and the fact Mary and Victoria had different protocols.
  21. but the cabin cards were not - we were simply instructed to arrive at the restaurant and we would be seated. Good point re table position expectaqtion of the op. Our cards assigned us to the QG but I will hold my hands up and say I didn't read it after opening envelope and seeing what it was so actual table number might/might not have been on it.
  22. and the tables are still numbered on QV and we still get the table assignment card waiting for us in the cabin.
  23. I answered, but don't know where it's gone.so here's a brief reply. Basically, I have no absolute knowledge but we asked for and got large tables per Covid and now ask for tables for two. One would hope cabin grade would come into play first as far as table choices are concerned for the top grades. I think a Q3 on Mary would count as one of the top grades and if she follows QV's table layout post Covid, the majority of the tables will be two tops anyway. I know where the table areas are on QV for the 1s and 2s, but I don't know Mary, so I have no idea where the favoured table positions are in the restaurant so I'll leave that to others.
  24. The link is an addition to professional training I have no idea what the training is for Cunard staff but I'm pretty sure it doesn't include a degree in the psychology of passenger/staff interaction. Bottom line. The staff are professional. Some know passengers from previous cruises and interact with them accordingly. That does not detract from the level of service or attention offered to others. It is 'as well as'. Interacting as Bellboy said with the staff, helps to be remembered. If you can't see this as an addition to the normal level of professional attention, then I am wasting my time.
